In 1992 when Gregory took office, our county debt was $9,155,979. Today (7-9-14) it is $25,403,117 according to the HC Finance office - nearly triple. Do we really need to go further in debt to give "Happy Hollow" $250,000 and another $1 million for the Foriest property so Industrial Board members like Tom Isbell can jack up the value of the nearby property they own? Still, I predict both will be crammed through. (Jul 10, 2014 | post #7)
Some commissioners said the deal would bring restaurants, hotels, etc. to the area - but TWRA does not allow such on its property - only hunting, fishing, hiking and MAYBE some camping. Gregory, Tom Isbell, and Susan Collins said it was "a golden opportunity." Like that $10,000 decal on a race car? The way it's been handled smells like fool's gold to me. If you're gonna do it, do it RIGHT! (May 28, 2014 | post #2)
Last night (May 27) the County Commission by 1 vote, killed the proposed Happy Hollow Wildlife Management Area (1,796 acres) also known as Gregory's Pauper Park. A disaster for Steve Gregory who wanted the taxpayers to give a $150,000 taxpayer "gift" to TennGreen and the TWRA (TWRA already has millions), it revealed why in an election year the Commission won't bow to Czar Gregory's demands...Gregory' s secrecy. The project, which Gregory worked on in secret for a year, was crammed down the commissioners' throats at the last minute PLUS it does little to attract jobs, since TWRA still owns the propety - not Hickman County, which has to use up its reserves just to meet the new budget. Commissioner Susan Sullivan called it "an 80% discount." That's like if I sell you a car for 80% off, but I still own the car. Another proposal for spot zoning in Bon Aqua near the Post Office also failed by 1 vote. This was backed by the Industrial Board but opposed by all but one of the nearby residents who attended the hearing. Again this was due to industrial board secrecy and failure to let residents or commissioners know what was going on, leading to false rumors and fear. Officials need to COMMUNICATE with the people and commissioners. (May 28, 2014 | post #1)
Are you aware of reports that Vander Horst has received huge contributions (tens of thousands of dollars or more) from EACH of several out-of-county and out-of-state lawyers. Do we want outsiders telling us how to vote by virtue of their big money? (May 28, 2014 | post #11)
Good point! I'm curious - do our school buses have seat belts? If not, they should. If so, then any student not wearing them should be suspended. Students who create distractions for the driver endanger the whole bus (Apr 29, 2014 | post #3)
It IS a matter of courage when parents don't stand up for what's right. The kids continue to be harmed and, even worse, the kids will only imitate the cowardice of the parents - their role models. Monkey see, monkey do. Child see, child do. By standing up, you are setting an example they will hopefully follow. By bowing down in defeat and humiliation, you are telling your children that they can win only by being the bullies they see winning now. I do hope a new league is formed and these crooks are investigated and prosecuted by the IRS. I let the charter of the Centerville Soccer Association lapse and have washed my hands of it. Good luck. My prayers are with you - and with all of those in our county who are the victims of injustice, greed and misplaced power. (Apr 25, 2014 | post #31)
Last year a new league was formed after those in power put the money in their personal accounts and told everyone else to go to hell. Wright and his buddy lied to everyone. The bunch who said they supported a new league (which I personally spent a bunch of money to incorporate) started fighting among themselves, then turned coward and hid. Wright created the Centerville Soccer LEAGUE - not ASSOCIATION to hide their actions - and the finances. Meet the new boss - same as the old boss. The more things change, the more they stay the same. People have no courage. (Apr 24, 2014 | post #29)
I've been told by a respected long-time resident of Hickman County that Willie Allen is Tony Collins' nephew. If true, this is a blatant example of using public money to fill a relative's pocket. Someone should go to jail - but they won't, will they? (Mar 26, 2014 | post #4)
