Charlottesville Prepares for Holiday Tree Lighting, Parade
Got a "Holiday " card from a liberal friend today. "Warm Winter Wishes". However, she told me all about the "Christmas " gifts she's getting her children. Look, this is the Christmas Season, if you are going to Celebrate Christmas, then celebrate it for the true meaning, if you don't have Christ in your Christmas, what right have you to celebrate? I am a Christian. Merry Christmas to you all. (36 min ago | post #4)
Restaurant Smoking Ban Now in Effect
I bet for every person who "doesn't drink and drive" (and yeah 2 beers count as drinking and driving), 2 or more stupid people get behind the wheel of a car while drinking. Both my parents did it, and they got in trouble in some serious ways. My children's friends father was killed by a drunk driver...who was the father of another one of their kids....it goes on and on and on. (43 min ago | post #44)
Did Christianity Cause the Economic Crash?
Wow, refreshing to see my views posted by other people. Gina, God has always provided my needs, not always my wants, but most defintely my needs. (Friday Dec 4 | post #3)

Nursing homes can't afford to hire more RN's at higher salaries to do the work that the CNA's do. I'm not knocking CNA's or LPN's, they are the greatest and, in my opinion, most of the time more compassionate and understanding (because the RN's are too busy with nursing duties). I can tell you what crowds our emergency rooms. It's not the sick patients. It is the patient who comes in with a toothache to get narcotics instead of going to a dentist to have the problem fixed. It is the people with drug seeking behaviors that event ailments so they too can receive narcotics. It's the mom's who bring in their sick children (with non-life threatening ailments) after hours because they can't or won't take off from work to take them to their PCP. And it's the people who come to the ER's who are not sick but just accompany the patient because they have nothing better to do. Why does a patient need 15 family members to come with them? These are the people who are taking up room in the ER and are laughing and eating and drinking and watching TV and disturbing the sick people in the waiting room. The Emergency Room waiting area is not a social club, or a hotel lobby. I know this is off-topic but once when my husband was sitting in triage at a local ER, doubled over and vomiting with what later was found to be kidney stones, a man walked in, demanded to be seen because he was bitten by an insect. The area he was allegedly bit in was not swollen or inflamed. When asked if he was allergic to bug bites, he told the triage nurse no. She told him they'd see him but that he'd have a long wait. He got mad and left. How sick was he??? It is not the poor nursing home resident who really doesn't have a say so as to whether they want to go to the hospital that overcrowd the emergency rooms, it's all of these people who really have no reason to be there. In my opinion if you can walk into the ER, keep getting up to go outside to smoke and use your cell phone, drink soda and potato chips with all your aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, etc., you aren't sick enough to be in the ER. Wachovia Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested
The way i see it, the "loser" is the cop-hater. Usually those who aren't fond of law enforcement are those that have had bad experiences with them --most likely not the fault of the police officer. (Wednesday Dec 2 | post #21)

My father as well is in a nursing home and I can tell you from experience, he having been in two different ones, that there is usually one RN on duty and the rest are CNA's or LPN's, who act on the recommendations of that RN or the doctor. I'd like to think if my father (who has had several strokes) is having some problems, that there would be no question that that nursing home call 911 (if deemed appropriate by the medical staff there). I thought the "volunteers " who worked for the squads did it because the wanted to be helpful to the community and help those in need. I have found a good deal of EMT's, paramedics, etc., to be an arrogant bunch of people in a pick-and-choose fantasy world (and I'm married to a former EMT). I'm in total agreement with Imcrazyitscool, it takes a lot of work to send out a nursing home patient and actually from what I have observed tend to be on the conservative side in taking care of them. Spoiled and bratty? When I give a HUGE donation to CARS every year for the last 30+ years (and luckily have never used them once). Okay, whatever. (Wednesday Dec 2 | post #45)

If the volunteers are going to start charging people, why not have ambulance services like taxi cabs? Private owners. That way you can shop (and compare) for a bargain while you are waiting to see if it's really a heart attack or indigestion you're having. The whole thing is incredibly wrong! Police Advise Keeping Gifts Under Wraps
"thieves are out to steal from you." Is this what a thief does...steal from others? Sorry, just sort of lame. Personally I agree with CBunny. I work damn hard for what I buy for my family and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for these lazy, "the world owes me" low-lifes. (Monday Nov 30 | post #9)

First Night Virginia Donations Down
The director/manager of 1st night is not hurting, personally. Therefore, she doesn't understand that there are more pressing issues to deal with then forking out donations or paying for this event. Gas, food, heat, etc., are higher on my list than 1st Night Virginia is. And the alcohol bit? I know several families who would NOT attend if alcohol was sold....I say scrap it.
