Where's the place to meet Gay's in Hiawassee

But to the poster who brought up Rainbow Ridge, nice double entendre!  (May 22, 2009 | post #28)

Thunderdome, Rainbow Ridge is the ridge that runs between Bugscuffle Spur and Bear Meat. You can access it from either road. Hope this helps.  (May 22, 2009 | post #27)

While I understand the sentiments expressed by "student " and "thoughtful, " I think both are inappropriate at this time. There is something to be said for keeping some thoughts to yourself. However, I think that the statements highlight a very real fact: few people seem to understand what depression is and what it does to a person. Those of us who knew Dale, knew her to be a fantastic person with a heart of gold and a love for her family and TC. This is precisely why something like this is so shocking, and it must make you stop and wonder why it happened in the first place. Right now, there is a nationwide ad campaign going on about depression, and I think it is appropriate for us to consider now. There are many variations, but the gist is: "You wouldn't tell someone, 'It's only cancer; get over it.' 'C'mon, it's only diabetes. Deal with it.' Yet we do this to people with depression daily." Depression is a medical condition; it is the result of improper balances of chemicals in the brain. Yet we expect those people to just "get over it." As a result, depression becomes a bigger problem for folks who suffer from it because, in addition to the physiological symptoms, they must also begin dealing with the shame of not being able to just "deal with it." Sadly, much of this attitude toward depression comes from those of us who call ourselves Christian, yet have very little of Christ's love or compassion for people in this situation. We have not had to deal with it personally, so we cannot empathize with those who do. So, even if you happen to be one of those who cannot muster any sympathy in your heart, try to keep it to yourself for a little while. I'm not trying to silence you or your opinion; in time, there is probably a good place for such a discussion. But what I'm suggesting is that now is not the time (out of respect to the family) and this thread is not the place (out of the same respect). Let's keep the messages here respectful, sympathetic, and full of Christian love. Later, if you still feel led to do so, you can start another thread on the topic.  (May 22, 2009 | post #19)

And here I thought Stookey had said he'd always post under his real name... In a previous post, someone noted that Stookey, Hicks, or his family had not spoken a word about this to anyone, yet here is all this information pouring forth. It's clear that this is coming from the horse's...well, let's say mouth to be nice. This nonsense about the DA saying, "Oh, Lordy, we don't got no case!" is utter ridiculousness. If a DA went before a judge saying, "Your Honor, we have no case whatsoever, the SO didn't provide us with good evidence, but we're going to do a plea bargain on this poor sap over here," he'd be disbarred for gross malpractice and violating his oath of office. IF (and this is a big IF) he had no case, you can bet your bottom dollar he wouldn't admit it, especially to the presiding judge. And the judge, who seems to be worth her salt gauging from the RE/EO trials, would probably have not accepted such a plea and simply dismissed the charges in light of such a confession. And the FBI is involved here? Are you kidding? They wouldn't even come up for the RE/EO case, and you think they're going to come up for this? What delusions of grandeur! C'mon, Dumplin', does your braggadocio know no bounds? And if I were in jail (no chance of that happening, but just saying for a hypothetical), I wouldn't call Stookey to represent me if I he were the last lawyer on earth and I had a prepaid card for him given to me.  (May 21, 2009 | post #77)

You beat me to the punch, Mort. I was going to say that any meeting of the little lizards would be a fine place to pick up someone practicing the "alternative lifestyle." Let the Klucking commence...  (May 21, 2009 | post #18)

And by the way, under all objective measures, pleading GUILTY, regardless of the count, is not a "win." If your case was as strong as you claim it was, why on God's green earth did you plea? I mean, if I were absolutely sure of my innocence, and I had such an airtight case, you can rest assured that I would see my day in court. Being declared not guilty of the charges sure beats admitting (pleading guilty) to them in whatever form they took.  (May 20, 2009 | post #26)

C'mon, Stookey. How'd that last civil trial work for you? We're all still here, and we're all still talking. And yet, you think that trying that same tactic is smart?  (May 20, 2009 | post #25)

No need to feel bad, friend. We all make mistakes, so there is no skin off anyone's back. I will admit that it had been so long since I had heard from you via this medium that your "style" had momentarily slipped my mind. If you don't know how to reach me (I'm sure you do), contact our mutual friend and she'll provide you my contact information. Stay in touch.  (May 1, 2009 | post #163)

The real windbag[stan raymond]

Keep on believing that. It does both of us a world of good. So, if WB=OT, and OT=KM, but WB=SR... I'll let one of the resident TC logicians work THAT one out...Heaven knows that we have many of them posting here.  (May 1, 2009 | post #30)

I'm sorry to hear about the health problems. I know that those can be stressful and can cause folks to have a short fuse. Thanks for the apology, and we're OK. I would recommend registering your "handle" so that this kind of confusion doesn't occur anymore. That way, when it is you that is posting, I'll know. I wasn't as concerned with the spelling and such, so no concerns there. I have made a typo or two in my time, so don't worry about it.  (May 1, 2009 | post #147)

This should have been enough right here for you to know, then, that I wasn't talking to you but to someone who was posting under your name. As WB put it, your name was hijacked. I was responding to that person - and stand by that response - but you have cleared up that the post did not come from you. You should have realized that if you read this thread. I do not particularly care for the threats, either.  (May 1, 2009 | post #141)

Man in the pickup is back!

See, this is where the memory gets fuzzy. I couldn't remember if it was Pete or Fuzz (was almost sure that was Fuzz, though, that died that way). As for the location, though, I am sure it was on River St. Fuzz's trailer was right around where the side street that connected Church St. and River St. was. Both of these men, even with their demons, were harmless old men, much like Otis from the Andy Griffith Show.  (May 1, 2009 | post #23)

Martial Law Soon

Perhaps, but I'm also not suggesting that that US government killed its own president. I'm only saying that the Warren Commission, in its haste to "close the case," did not fully investigate the matter. They wanted closure for the country, and they wanted the healing to begin. Should they have spent more time on it? Sure. But again, government commissions/agenci es/committees are, if anything, inept. This is just another example of it. I'm not twisting your words, sir. I am only asking questions at this point, making what would otherwise be implicit assumptions explicit. If you disagree with these, then please say so. There is no malice intended here; rather, because I don't want there to be misunderstandings, I am trying to make sure that every basis is out in the open.  (May 1, 2009 | post #296)

You'll have to reference the post number, as I do not recall you answering this, beyond your reliance on compartmentalization. However, I am responding directly to this reliance, and you have not responded to that.  (Apr 30, 2009 | post #289)
