I'm sorry, David "almost always" tries to walk away. So what happens when good ol David isn't able to walk away. Does his inner beast get the best of him? If so.............and you're the mother and know this? Then you're just as guilty for allowing it as she is for staying. Insecurity is not code for hit me. You clearly speak from some sort of first hand experience. Maybe you or someone you know is in this type of relationship. I understand what you're saying however I completly disagree with you wholeheartedly. Here's the thing, we all pick who we're with, (i'm gona assume we can at least agree there)who we decide to marry, have kids with, etc. This guy more than likely didn't just wake up that morning and decide "Hey, i'm gona be an a sshole today" Ok, she had to of picked up on signs or clues about his true colors. It was her decision to stay, maybe later it became a control thing with him or whatever, but, he wasn't abusive on the first date. You sound as if you don't beleive there are programs out there for battered woman and childen. Is it a walk in the park? Hell no, i'm sure it's an emotional experience one has to be strong enough to overcome. You say the jerk will harrass and hurt/kill her friends/family. My question to you is; what makes you think these people in her inner circle don't already know about it. Possibly already having a restraining order, a registered gun, and a huge dog! And your last comment: she needs him to be happy with her? WHAT??? Who gives a rat's you know what what he's happy or not happy with. Look, i'm not trying to jump your case here, but, c'mon woman!!! Wake the hell up. You're basically saying to stay in the relationship so the jerk doesn't possibly go after your friends/family to harm them and that you're the only one safe If you can get away without being caught. Those are the weakest excuses i've ever heard in my entire life. There is no excuse to stay with anybody male/female who is abusive mentally or physcially. Not in this day and age. And you're right, i've never been in an abusive relationship because I know how to pick and choose who's in my life and smart enough to recognize who to stay the hell away from. I certainly hope no females that are currently in this type of relationhsip read your reply and thought to themselves "why bother, i'm stuck" If that did happen, may God help you.  (Tuesday Dec 15 | post #26)

Thank goodness she was honest enough to stop.
