new to Brookhaven

Brookhaven is a pretty nice place to live, although the amount of BS that is floating around is unreal! I have never lived in a place like this until I married a man from here and moved over . . . It seems to me that new industry and new businesses are discouraged because of the high rent for commercial property and all of the red tape you have to go through to get a business license, etc. You are right about the beer, etc., where I am from DRY means DRY . . . LOL Good luck making friends and settling in to our community!  (Aug 4, 2008 | post #2)

Logan's Quality Oil Accident

I don't know any details but I heard that a young man got very seriously injured at Logan's Quality Oil on Hwy 51. Does anyone know what happened and whether he is doing okay?  (Jun 24, 2008 | post #1)

we need a taco bell

Although it will probably NEVER happen, I would love to see a Taco Bell in Winnfield! At least it would give an alternative to McDonalds, Sonic or Burger King . . . If anyone in Winnfield has the big bucks to buy a Taco Bell franchise, I say go for it! I know, I sure don't have that kind of cash!  (Jun 21, 2008 | post #4)

What's up with Sonic

The Sonic in Winnfield is the slowest Sonic I have ever been to! It is ridiculous that it takes 20 minutes or longer to get a a hamburger, much less a coke. The management needs to tighten up and fire the slackers and get some people that are willing to get off of their butts and actually work! There is really no excuse for them being THAT slow!  (Jun 20, 2008 | post #9)

Winnfield Mensa Society

From what little I know about Eddie Johnson, I find him to be a very kind, considerate and caring person. Who cares if he THINKS or SAYS he has a higher IQ than me or you . . . LOL Hell, from what I have seen on some of these threads, he probably does! I was getting my hair cut the other day and there was a woman there that was telling the beautician about how her neighbor (who just happened to be Eddie Johnson) had mowed her yard for her and then RETURNED the check she wrote him to pay him for doing it. She said that Eddie had been helping her by mowing her yard for her or anything that she needed help with since her husband passsed away. It doesn't take a tremendous IQ to figure out that doing something kind and decent to help out a neighbor make Eddie Johnson a good person. So, all of you haters on Topix that have nothing better to do than slam a decent human being are as dumb as a box of rocks and instead of throwing your rocks at Eddie, you need to hang on to them so at least you will have something ratting around in your heads! The more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm glad to know that Winnfield is STILL a pit of venomous vipers! Makes me kind of glad I don't live there any longer!  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #40)

How Horrible is Wal-Mart In Winnfield

My husband is a Wal-Mart truck driver and believe me, Wal-Mart's issues go far beyond having store shelves stocked and available clerks and cashiers . . . Going to the store manager for answers is a joke, all they are worried about is their big bonus check at the end of the year! If you have ANY issues with anyting at Wal-Mart, call 1-800-WALMART and although it may be a while before some REAL changes are seen, they do take the calls seriously and address what is brought to their attention. If they get enough calls about a particular store they WILL take some sort of action!  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #5)

Embers A Cafe

The service was far better years ago . . . I don't live in Winnfield any longer, but I visit about once a month to see my Mom. We generally go out to eat at least once while I am there and although the food is edible, it's not as good as it could be and I feel sorry for the waitresses who catch hell because the cooks can't keep up with the orders . . . I used to own my own restaurant and know that getting orders out in a timely manner is key to making your customers happy . . . Perhaps the cooks should be trained to work on more than one table's order at a time. I know for a fact that they don't start working on a ticket until the one ahead of it is completed because my niece used to work there not too long ago. It's a joke in our family that you'd better not go to Embers if you are hungry because you'll be STARVED before you get the food!  (May 30, 2008 | post #91)

Winnfield man charged with killing step-brother

Whether Penny and Tony were getting divorced or not, I'm sure there was love there on some level. Who knows, if Tony had gotten his act together and made some effort he and Penny probably would have gotten back together and those precious girls would have their family back . . . No one will ever know because of this horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to Penny and her children. I suppose it is sad to say this, but I'm glad Mr. Julius Knight (Tony's grandfather) wasn't alive to see what happened to his family!  (May 30, 2008 | post #47)
