Schultz Beats Out Incumbent Mauro In Secretary Of State Race

I've always heard that Polk County = Mauro County. I'm positive that it didn't come from conservative radio.  (Nov 3, 2010 | post #6)

Iowa Votes to Keep Boswell

I was really saddened by his being re-elected until I realized that his wings will be clipped. As a minority in the House he will not have the power that he had previously.  (Nov 3, 2010 | post #12)

REMOVE OR RETAIN: Competing campaigns on the judicial ret...

Yessir, which part of the constitution are you referencing and in regards to which ruling? Lynching? Nah, we're just excercising our right to remove them.  (Oct 29, 2010 | post #6)

Do you mean like the Heemstra murder trial where their decision effectively set him free? How about the smoking ban not applying to casinos? Does that seem fair? Or what about allowing victim mental health records to be admissable in court? Ya, that's a great one too! I think that there are multiple valid reasons to NOT retain these "justices ".  (Oct 29, 2010 | post #2)

Poll Shows Boswell With 12-Percent Lead Over Zaun

Boswell is a tool. I've contacted his office several times over bills that were being voted on. He usually sends me some form letter telling me how great the legislation is. I found them insulting. Please! The last time I called I told them to spare me the cheesy form letter and at least I didn't receive one.  (Oct 28, 2010 | post #10)

Boone Police Shoot Knife Wielding Man

I'm pretty sure that I never said that he was the only "Victim" . He wasn't the victim, he was the perpetrator. I only questioned the use of deadly force. Wrong idea in this crowd. Lock and load!  (Oct 27, 2010 | post #105)

I also have a problem with cops tasing someone at the drop of a hat. I know I'm stupid and crazy. I don't mean to disparage the police. It just seems that they are not the type of officers that I grew up around. My stepfather was a cop in Arizona. He left the force because he was derided for not being tough enough on perpetrators. I think that he really wanted to help people but that isn't what he was supposed to do according to the majority of his co-workers. I thought that it was sad.  (Oct 27, 2010 | post #98)

Boone Police Shoot Knife Wielding Man

At least the Boone cop didn't use deadly force on the 11 year old who had a gun. Sounds like he certainly should have according to the posters here.  (Oct 27, 2010 | post #97)

So my lack of understanding makes me stupid. Ok. Sorry I have a problem with deadly force. No, I've never been in that situation. I'm so stupid that I didn't think that this man needed to die. I could be wrong. NO ONE is infallible.  (Oct 27, 2010 | post #92)

Pretty sure I never said "acception ". Do you mean exception? No, I don't think they should be an exception just handled with more care. Cop called me stupid for my opinion. That was real mature of him/her.  (Oct 27, 2010 | post #88)

I also respect that an officer puts his life in danger to protect and serve. Iowa seems to have a better police force than most other states that I've been to. Definitely more friendly and empathetic than most.  (Oct 26, 2010 | post #57)

So if anyone questions whether they did the right thing or not that makes them a hater? Ok, sure. I am very respectful to police officers and would never put myself in harms way by challenging them. There are mentally ill people however that don't have the ability to do this.  (Oct 26, 2010 | post #48)

It's a sad thing to have happened for all involved. I didn't just think that this cop acted rashly in shooting the perp. I think that there is a trend to do so. Did anyone see the KCCI cameraman who was shot at by DMPD for getting his cell phone out? Sure, there aren't any of our fine police that are shoot happy. Also, apparently something similar happened just two years ago in Boone. That time they killed a man with a bb gun. The relatives told the police it was only a bb gun and they killed him anyway.  (Oct 26, 2010 | post #9)
