Don't buy GAS in C'ville!

Wood Shed may be cheaper than Coffeyville stations due to the difference in state fuel taxes. But the real person ripping people off is the Wood Shed. Compare their prices to Nowata, Oolagah and Bartlesville who have the same state taxes and you will see who the real crook is. I myself would prefer to pay the money to the state of Kansas where it will at least partially be put to some use on roads and such rather than lining a certain guy from Edna's pockets.  (Jul 30, 2010 | post #45)

candy cane lane

Candy Cane Lane is a part of Coffeyville history that most of us remember fondly. To see people being priced out of spreading the joy they have always spread is sad. Now that my granchildren are old enough to enjoy Christmas lights I want them to make those same memories. I like the idea of fundraising and business sponsorship to help defray the costs. I'm sure there are business owners who remember it just as we do and would help. I know I would gladly help out on a a fundraiser as well as a work day. Another option for helping with putting up and taking down the decorations are the local church youth groups and boy scout troops. They are always interested in public service projects.  (Dec 18, 2009 | post #35)

no more Christmas Parade !!!

You know the thing about people raving about Christmas here and in other places. Jesus was not born on or anywhere near this tiem of year. Most scholars agree he was born in the late springtime. However in order to make the new Christian religiona dn also to keep from being persecuted the early church chose this time of year because there was an existing pagen festival. In fact most "Christian " coincide with much older pagen festivals. Additionally early christians did take Christ out of Christmas. The term Xmas dates back hundreds of years when it was also used as shorthand to not draw attention from Roman authorities.  (Nov 25, 2009 | post #30)

Churches in Coffeyville

The main problem is that in some churches leadership want sto be able to completly controll the church. The bigger they are the harder that is to do. Take a look at the churches that have grown and you will see leadership who share responsiblilty and allow others input.  (Nov 25, 2009 | post #2)

Coffeyville

One issue with middle class apartments in a town like Coffeyville. Many people who grew up in a small town don't really consider an apartment like those in a larger city. That is an attitude that would need to be changed for one to work. Really the best option in a smaller town is a dublex/triplex type of set up. I really think a group of 10-20 duplexes would rent much easier than an apartment complex of similar units would.  (Oct 28, 2009 | post #14)

registered offenders

It is not illegal to post a name on here so long as you can back it up with a public record of the information. If you post that someone is a convicted sex offender and it is a matter of public record there is nothing illegal against that. It could, however, be against the ToS of the website.  (Oct 28, 2009 | post #27)

Dead Beat Dads of Coffeyville !!

Since we are telling welfare stories. Several years ago when I was working in retail tire business, we had a customer come in who was on some sort of retraining or disability. SRS paid for him a new set of 4 tires. Now the government does not buy cheap tires either. These were $180/ea Goodyear's. Supposedly this was so he could find a job or get back and forth to a job. 6 months later the guy comes in complaining of road noise. He had put 30,000 miles on the tires without ever rotating the tires and caused them to cup. This is not a safety issue it simply makes the tires noisy. Secondly he had put 30k miles on a car in 6 months because he was driving to Dallas every weekend to see a girlfriend. Guess what? SRS paid for a complete new set of tires. Even though there was nothing wrong with the tires other than noise and that would have been avoided had he simply maintained the tires. This kid of crap happens all the time.  (Oct 6, 2009 | post #14)

Which is a lot of the reason the US auto makers are near or in bankruptcy. 80% of their pay for not producing anything. What good is that if the company goes bankrupt. Better to have been making 75% for the last 10 years and work for a strong viable company that does not require government bailout.  (Oct 6, 2009 | post #26)

positives

And what you said was positive? You've obviously not lived in to many towns. I know of many towns with a much worse drug problem. I deal with many more rude people and rudeness in general any time I go to Wichita or Kansas City. Bashign the town is not a positive.  (Oct 6, 2009 | post #15)

Tyro Christian Cult

Yes there is a Christian church in Dearing. It is right across from the car wash. It is a sister church to TCC and also to Westside Christian in Coffeyville. They all three do things together from time to time.  (Oct 6, 2009 | post #58)

Study history a little bit and you will see that unions WERE a good thing for workers. That day is passed. Unions are as corrupt as the politicians they back. The union heads at the national level are out for themselves only. If they have to sell out the rank and file then so be it. If you think unions help employees long term, go talk to a steel worker or an auto worker.  (Oct 2, 2009 | post #23)

Small town

We are very glad you don't live here anymore also. But if you think small towns have a monopoloy on ignorance than that alone proves you are wrong.  (Oct 2, 2009 | post #14)
