United Airlines' workforce to take flight in operations center'...
It has nothing to do with diversity or city/suburb schooling, it has to do with being located where the greatest number of talented people who would think working for a certain company like United makes senses. No one in the South Loop, Homewood or Frankfort is going to be in a rush to work at United when it is so far away and inaccessible. It makes absolutely no sense in working there when it takes two hours to get there. However if the company is centrally located in the Loop business district it is now accessible by mass transit and all major roads. That plays a major factor in many peoples decisions on where they want to work, especially for young people. (Aug 6, 2009 | post #164)
Tom Gorzelanny excellent in winning 6-3 in Chicago Cubs debut
Vitters needs to do three things brfore he ever tastes the Bigs. Get healthy, learn how to take a walk, learn how to hit lefties... If he hasn't made progress in all three catagories by the end of next season trade him as quickly as possible.. (Aug 5, 2009 | post #167)

You say one Reds announcer is available but you then mention both of them. Who is the one looking for a new home? And why would you want Thom Brennaman? Beside the fact that he started with the Cubs and we already showed him the door, his father Marty is an ardent Cub hater, and Thom pretty much tortured Cub fans in the 2003 NLCS in the cursed 8th inning. I happen to think Bob Brennley is a fantastic color guy, almost on par with Stoney. (Aug 5, 2009 | post #149)

Have fun getting mugged, panhandled, raped, and assaulted... and that's just from the Chicago city governmentExactly, corporate HQ's and large operation centers like United or British Petroleom (which is also moving downtown) should be centrally located to take advantage of the mass transit system we have built! It allows the company to recruit workers from the entire region and not just the NW suburbs. And all those complaining about no transportation for 2nd and 3rd shifts, the red and blue lines operate 24 hours a day, park your cars at a commuter lot and ride the CTA downtown. The greater the population density the the higher ridership will be on the CTA and that translates to better service and better funded facilities. (Aug 5, 2009 | post #114)

It was against the Braves, it was the 2nd game of the season. Greg Maddux pitched his first game of his career as a Brave against the Cubs the day before against Mike Morgan. The Jaun Guzman game was not only a shutout, but it was a no hitter until two outs in the ninth when Otis Nixon broke it up with an outfield single. I was a freshman in high school and begged my teacher to put the game on! I was convincing because he did. (Aug 4, 2009 | post #41)

Well unlike automobile commuters, CTA and Metra riders get to right off transportation expenses pre-tax on their federal income taxes annually. If they no longer need their cars they don't have to pay car insurance or fuel and the taxes that go along with it. So their is considerable advantages for commuter to work in a central location. Bartman's 'Dark Night' coming back to haunt
Do I blame Bartman for reaching for that ball? No, it was human instinct.. Would I have reached for that ball if I were sitting in those seats? No, I would have known the situation and would have grabbed Alou by the scruff and helped him catch the damn ball. Do I think Alou makes the catch if the ball wasn't interfered with? Yes I think Alou had a pretty good shot at making the catch. We've all seen the replays, Bartman was leaning forward and reaching out, which mean the ball was probably right over the wall. And by the look of it Alou was in position to make the grab. Does it really matter? No, Gonzalez should have turned the double play and we'd all be spending are time better right now in stead of discussing this topic. (Aug 4, 2009 | post #91)

Interesting, from the rear it appears to be a Mercedes C Class, and the front looks like a VW Jetta. Not a bad looking car. (Aug 4, 2009 | post #13)

Wuertz is (5-1) with a 3.38 ERA He also 66 strikeouts with 13 walks. Thats a 5.08 K/BB ratio with a 1.038 WHIP. Wuertz had a bad year last, he looks fantastic this year. I could never figure out why they got rid of him. Dumb.. (Jul 31, 2009 | post #121)
Report: NHL investigating Chicago Blackhawks' contract with Mar...
How can they make them an example if they did what they supposedly did according to the existing rules? It doesn't seem fair that they change the rules after something they don't like and then penalize a team by playing by the original rules... I not sure how they would prove retirement was discussed, Only the GM, agent and player would know, and I'm not sure how likely they are to incriminate themselves in wrong doing.. Alfonso Soriano leads Cubs over Reds 5-3
Actually it was $138 million if I'm not mistaken.. How many player in the history of the game have ever been offered an 8 year contract? Mike Hampton is the only one I can recall recently. When you're paying an athelte this kind of money its a HUGE RISK giving him a deal longer than 5 years. His production does not merrit his contract, they way overpaid on a yearly basis and they made a massive mistake on the numer of year they gave him. They could have gotten him for 5 years I bet. And yes I am paying his salary with my season tickets, which go up 20% every other year. I'm not sure I would call that increase reasonable.. (Jul 30, 2009 | post #90)
