Hundreds Turned Out for Community Job Fair at JPJ Arena -...

I find it extremely interesting that someone is trying to find electronic assemblers. Lets see, a great many of the electronics assembly jobs were shipped to Taiwan, China, Mexico, etc. so the Americans that were electronic assemblers have to find other work. Electronics assembly is at a higher level of skill and experience than flipping burgers yet the people looking to hire electronics assemblers want to pay at that level. I happen to know that a company looking for one of those electronics assemblers had a requirement for a 2 year electronics degree. I guess they wanted to combine an electronics technician position with an electronics assembler position. That is fine and is doable but they wanted to pay at the rate of a beginner electronics assembler. People will say that in these economic times companies can get away with that. Well, apparently they can't since they are still looking for electronics assemblers. The position I am personally familiar with was advertised back in April or May and it was through the staffing agency mentioned in the article as well as 1 or 2 other staffing agencies not mentioned. Sorry for the rant but I suspect I am just voicing the frustration that many, many people across the country are feeling.  (Sep 30, 2011 | post #13)

Bypass Back-and-Forth: Reaction to Connaughton - NBC29 WV...

Where do you think the local, state and Federal governments get funds? Santa Clause? Just because a person is in favor of the bypass makes it okay in that persons eyes that some public officials lied to other public officials and to the public to get their way?  (Sep 22, 2011 | post #11)

New Documents Show Estimates of Western Bypass Almost Dou...

From what I have read there will only be access points at each end. But you are absolutely correct that it won't turn out that way. Maybe not in the beginning, but in the years to come the greedy **** developers will kick back enough money to the politicians to get additional access points. I am for a bypass but it should start at Ruckersville and end south of the 64/29 interchange. The present bypass proposal is great for local commuters but it only solves half the problem (maybe not even half) for DC to NC (or points further north and south) travelers. Oh well, I guess half (or less than) is better than none. Of course the bigger bypass will need to be done someday but by the time they build it how much more expensive will it be - quite a dang bit.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #25)

McDonnell Announces Preliminary Approval for I-95 Toll Pl...

I applaud this idea. To change to a somewhat related subject...as far as I am concerned they should scrap the current 'faux' bypass, move one start/end point to just north of Ruckersville, the other end/start point to just south of the I-64/Rte 29 interchange and make that 'real' bypass a toll road.  (Sep 19, 2011 | post #3)

VDOT Updates Albemarle Supervisors on Western Bypass - NB...

Rooker said, "There are impacts not only in the design of the road but there are impacts if it goes to construction, how it's constructed. There are places where it bisects roads." VDOT Project Manager Harold Jones said, "It's going to be connected at two points..." Seems obvious to me if the bypass only has an entrance and exit then where it bisects roads will be over/under passes. According to the documents I read the whole idea is NOT to fill the bypass with traffic lights. Thus, the bypass will HAVE to go over or under any roads it bisects. Maybe there is some option I am missing. @Fit, you are absolutely correct. That is why I say the so called "promises " by VDOT to complete other needed road projects for this area is completer and utter BS. What one political whim gives another political whim can take away. Our local politicians are feeding us a line of BS hoping we will fall for it. Unfortunately, they are right...the public seems to always fall for the BS promises. I am for a bypass of some description. I just hate hearing about so called "promises ". That gets my knickers in a twist. Don't give us BS, just go ahead and say you want a bypass because it will economically benefit your campaign contributors (or yourself).  (Sep 8, 2011 | post #15)

Rivanna Plaza Breaks Ground in Albemarle County - NBC29 W...

It isn't the city or counties worry if buildings are vacant (unless they own them). The owners of these spaces are still paying property taxes I would imagine. I would also imagine it would be further in the interest of the city or county to have new buildings constructed because there would be building permit fees and additional taxes paid. Not to mention the assorted taxes collected from the workers who are constructing the new buildings. Yes, it also benefits the city or county if the vacant buildings become not vacant but why would they turn down the revenues generated from new building construction if that is what the developers want to do. You would think the developers would look at the vacant buildings and make a wise business decision regarding new developments. I repeat, you would think...but sometimes you have to wonder.  (Aug 31, 2011 | post #18)

Rivanna Plaza Breaks Ground in Albemarle County - NBC29 W...

As I understand it VDOT (or whoever is funding the bypass) is requiring that the bypass be limited access - as in the only way on or off the bypass is at either end. I am fairly certain of this because when I read it I remember thinking "wow, a government agency is going to do something that makes sense" (make sense only in the idea of making the bypass limited access - not making sense in where the bypass will be located - i.e. not far enough north). I am quite certain a way will be found to screw up the concept of the bypass. Kind of like what happened on the north end of the bypass around Warrenton. Before the bypass there were just a couple of businesses and maybe one traffic light. Now look at how many businesses there are. Any time saved on the bypass is then wasted in that nightmare right after the bypass.  (Aug 31, 2011 | post #8)

It is nice to see someone else with the same thoughts. I am so sick of seeing people blame Democrats or blame Republicans or blame so and so and so on... We are all at fault including me. I was an idiot and felt that our government had some master plan and was doing what was right for the country. I was so naive it makes me sick to my stomach.  (Aug 24, 2011 | post #16)

I think it is more a question of greed. The people falling for this think they are getting a windfall. Greed is a powerful force as is quite evident with politicians, Wall Street, entertainment, professional (and collegiate) sports and on and on. Still, you are correct. It IS simple minded for someone to let their greed get the better of their common sense.  (Aug 23, 2011 | post #9)
