Pace Fratis. Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. As You See It, Dec. 3, 2010: Community helps during hunt ...

Chief Vogel- In light of your gratitude to the community for their support and desire for our safety, will you be increasing the number of Concealed Carry permits? I believe your predecessors have issued approximately zero within the past 3 years. I believe with the budget limitations you are now operating under and likelihood of future reductions, that a trained and permited public will better be able to protect themselves WHEN similar events DO occur.  (Dec 3, 2010 | post #9)

Frank- My friend, say compassionate and merciful rather than liberal. I'm a rather conservative fellow and I completely agree with your sentiment about Christ not being recgnized if he returned today. He'd be with the homeless and the outcast as you said. He'd probably be rejected by the "leaders " today as we was by the Judaic leaders when he was engaged in his ministry. We should (and mostly don't -- me too) see Christ in the lost, addicted, homeless and poor.  (Dec 2, 2010 | post #38)

Sheriff praises deputy Cathy Bramanti for her bravery aft...

Taser her? Thankful? You should be thankful he used the taser rather than her .40 S&W loaded semi auto pistol. He could have and then you all would be singing a different tune. Be thankful to who you should thanking. God. This could hsve been much much worse and NO thanks to fools who sent this officer in harms way,  (Nov 30, 2010 | post #68)

Utter nonsense. If there is insufficient manpower then DON'T transport the prisoner. Stop right then and there. Defer until additional personnel are available. It is the PRIMARY responsibility for the sheriff to insure that he does not put his deputies AND the public in danger. He needs to nut up. Or, barring sufficient nut, he should start being more open on the concealed carry permits. Same goes for SCZ Police Chief. How many CCW issued by SCZ Sheriff dept in past 3 years> Zero.  (Nov 30, 2010 | post #62)

Incredible. I have no doubt of the deputy's bravery. What I do question is the WISDOM AND COMPETENCE of a Sheriff dept that would allow a 5'3" deputy (male OR female) to solo escort a 275 lb 6'7" prisoner. These folks put you and I at risk. BTW, the pic of her makes me think she tops out a 130 lbs in full battle rattle. Ugh... and this from a city and sheriffs department who NEVER issue CCW to citizens.  (Nov 30, 2010 | post #5)

Holy Cross introduces soccer league pilot program to keep...

From the article. "One year ago, Bishop Garcia gathered the region's pastors and parish leaders to develop a strategy for parishes to organize ways to prevent area children from joining gangs. On March 26, he publicly announced the Covenant for Community Safety and Gang Prevention at the conclusion of a street procession of 5,000 people at St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Salinas, where earlier that week a kindergarten boy was killed by a stray bullet." The same folks who post about how awful the gang activity are also the same ones who come here complaining about efforts by the community to reduce that same gang activity. Shame on you. I respectfully suggest that if all you got is more "it's da illegals, I tells ya" rant or another anti catholic screed, that you all go out and put in the same effort that these churches are putting in. If not, then refrain from the ill informed nonsense...  (Nov 29, 2010 | post #7)

Parents of preschoolers protest medical pot shops next door

I call BS. False dichotomy = moral leveller. If you object to legal use of marijuana you must also make alcohol illegal because there will be people using alcohol and driving. Wrong. Another wrong headed and fuzzy thinker (must come from the weed). Nojinx states you must allow weed or outlaw everything else. Ha! BTW, no where in any of my posts on this thread do I state that medical weed should be outlawed. No where.  (Nov 12, 2010 | post #137)

You sorta remind me of a fellah my old Gunny used to talk about. He'd say, "You can tell as a______. But, you can't tell 'em much".  (Nov 12, 2010 | post #59)

No. Not just my world. But the world. The subset of international law known as the law of war or international humanitarian law also recognises regulations for the conduct of war, including the Geneva Conventions governing the legitimacy of certain kinds of weapons, and the treatment of prisoners of war. You do remember the joint resolution voted on by both houses of Congress right prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom? Numerous resolution by the UN warning off Saddam? The 700+ attacks on Coaltion aircraft between Desert Storm and OIF? You see, unlike you I deal with historical facts and not progressive emotive twaddle.  (Nov 11, 2010 | post #55)

I'm not clear on why pro are citing alcohol and prescription drug abuse as justification for having a pot dispensary near a school. That is simply not relevant or logical. It seems to me that they are saying, "See how much worse under the influence of alcohol is? So, the medical marijuana is okay because it's not as bad." Who wants ANY of the low lifes who go thru life under the influence near a child care facility?  (Nov 11, 2010 | post #129)
