The amount of ticks here in Mastic Beach 2013

I live by the high school and never had much of a tick problem. However, this year every time someone is in the yard they get a tick on them. Mostly from the mulch! I spray Yard Guard, grey bottle, all insects are gone. Even mosquitoes stay away for about 10 to 12 days.  (Jun 30, 2013 | post #11)

Father's Day

Google has a fun little app on their page for Father's Day. How about you all go check it out. Have a little mindless fun for a minute or two and take a break from the drama. Happy father's Day everyone!  (Jun 16, 2013 | post #1)

Yard waste pickup

Also, once your garbage is put on the curb it becomes the property of The Village of Mastic Beach and if you are caught picking out metals, empty bottles, etc, you will be fined. However, you can make arrangements with metal and empty bottle recycle individuals to come onto your property and collect such items before they are placed at the curb.  (Jun 9, 2013 | post #35)

Forgot to add the most important part, does anyone know where electronics can be disguarded?  (Jun 9, 2013 | post #34)

Electronics will no longer be picked up. I called the village to inquire about throwing out two televisions. TOB dump will no longer take electronic items, not the village's fault.  (Jun 9, 2013 | post #33)

Community Events

Where could I find information about upcoming events in MBV? I checked the village website but nothing was listed under Community Events or on the calendar.  (Jun 8, 2013 | post #1)

You people have a habit of taking things out of context. You neglected to add this part " I saw quite a few places that cleaned up their stores". But , yes, I do think more business owners should follow. And you forgot this part, "staying away for that long made me really notice what has been done. I applaud all their efforts." Oh and this part, " my criticisms were harsh." Yes, I was wrong, things are being done. I noticed and I am happy people are working to make MBV a better place. Get it now? I WAS WRONG!!! I am happy to admit that! Is that plain enough for you? FYI - I learned quickly enough that this isn't the place to come to for facts. I'm here strictly for the entertainment now. This stuff is better than soap operas. Love it, keep up the good work.  (Jun 5, 2013 | post #31)

why does the village copy everything the mbpoa does?

That was a joke! I read this forum day after day and even though I have only been here for a few weeks, I already know what response is going to made by most people. Isn't there one person on here who can offer up something constructive or positive to talk about?  (Jun 5, 2013 | post #47)

I was just trying to say that the past is the past. I didn't mean to point out Onofrio's. I also was pointing out that my criticisms were harsh because when I did take a ride down there I saw quite a few places that cleaned up their stores. I wish some of the other businesses would get on board and follow their lead. A year is a long time, maybe people don't notice changes because they are subtle, staying away for that long made me really notice what has been done. I applaud all their efforts.  (Jun 5, 2013 | post #29)

I am going to attend both of these events just so I can see who is on which side of the fence, village or no village. It would be of great benefit to me if all the people who post in this forum wear a T-shirt with their nicknames on it so I can throw accusations around, get up on my soapbox, point fingers, appoint blame and stir up crap more efficiently. Thank you in advance.  (Jun 4, 2013 | post #25)

I am the one that said to boycott the stores but only if they did not show an interest in cleaning up their shops. I haven't been down there in almost a year but I drove down there last week, some places did look better. Congrats to them for showing an interest in the community and trying. And nowhere did I suggest major renovations, soap and water, paint and a bottle of windex would go a long way. I just don't understand why people think its okay for our business district to look the way it does. I don't care how long a business has been opened or if 30 years ago they were praised by Newsday, CLEAN IT! REFRESH IT! You know, Home Depot puts on free workshops for all kinds of do it yourself things. Go look up the video on their website about faux glaze paint. Its gorgeous and cheap! Go check out some recycle or upcycle websites. Amazing things can be done for a very small price and some good old fashioned elbow grease. It is just beyond me that this is an arguement.  (Jun 3, 2013 | post #26)

So Boycott, do you suggest we just let the run down businesses continue to define our town? Those people have a choice, they choose not to clean up their shops, are we just supposed to settle for that? Oh poor Mr Business owner...boohoo! Clean the filth and more people will shop in your store! More customers means more profit, a cleaner and nicer looking business district which will attract more businesses to open up and welcome new home buyers. Why is that SO difficult of a concept to understand? I just can not believe so many people are satisfied with Neighborhood Rd looking like a ghetto. What is wrong with you people?  (Jun 2, 2013 | post #12)

Village Wins Property Suit

There should be a "Bazaar Day". Local merchants, crafts people and residents can rent designated areas (maybe 10 feet wide sections rented out in single or double blocks at a reasonable price) along Neighborhood Rd and sell their wares.  (Jun 2, 2013 | post #39)
