Dollar General faces new lawsuit

Answer: HELL NO,,you need to first of all make sure you have all or start keeping your clock in and out slips for proof of worked hours. If you have those, you need to call even the STARS line or any corporate number you can get your hands on. Maybe even just your DM. What your manager is illegal and it CAN NOT be done. I've been a manager for over 4yrs now and never have i taken time off someones clock in's. If you were supposed to clock out for a break, and actually got the break, but didn't clock, then your manager needs to adjust your hrs the next day by sending you home 30 min early or something. But he can't take them off himself, especially if you didn't get a break! MY goodness the things i hear some managers do just blows my mind!!  (Apr 30, 2008 | post #149)

Bell Verdict: The Day After

The police were doing their job. The man tried to or did hit an officer with his vehicle. I get so tired of hearing african americans think there is some in justice because one of theirs didn't get away with another crime. I'm sure if the cop had tried to run over this guy they would have been suing the police dept for it. Get over it, it's not a racial thing! I believe Al Sharpton encourages the black community to get so worked up. He just wants to keep his name in the news!  (Apr 28, 2008 | post #325)

Bride Trades Wedding Ring for Handcuffs

i knew this girl from the old days and she is one who thinks she can get away with anything. A loud mouthed, thinks she could kick anyones ass type of person. I'm sure that's why she was theatening someone. She definatley got what she deserved! And i'm sure once she's out of jail she'll carry through with at threat to that juror, because she'll think it was that persons fault she was in jail in the first place for telling the cops about the threats. Stupid, stupid, stupid girl.  (Mar 31, 2008 | post #24)

Managers who aren't doing their jobs or enforcing their store teams to do theirs are going to have a wake up call when "model" store standards set in. Ya'll might not have to worry about not having time to get your work done because someone who can will be there doing it while you're in the unemployment line. Really if it's that bad just leave. You're not doing this company or yourself a favor staying.  (Mar 16, 2008 | post #40)

Metal Found in Valentine's Day Lollipops

At Christmas time i had so many customers asking for toys that were NOT made in China,so i thought it would be a clever idea to go through every one of my toys and make a big display of just the toys that were made in the USA to show our store was supportive of their concerns. Well... after 2 days of looking at each and every toy, board game and so on,,my display consisted of 3 board games! Yes, only 3 items made in the USA, and ya'll know just how many toys we have in our stores. I just don't understand why people are confused as to why our country is going into a crisis financially. Bring back the jobs and billions of dollars in revenue home people.  (Feb 17, 2008 | post #11)

Dollar General faces new lawsuit

I compleatly agree with you on alot of your comments. I feel it's going to take awhile for all the kinks that usually come along with new ownership, are going to take awhile to work out,but eventually it'll be smooth running. Hour cuts are hard on everyone, especially managers who have to pick up the slack. I've been a manager for 4yrs now and what i learned in mgt.training was completly different than what an assistant manager of mine who moved up to management learned when she went just a year and a half later. I really think it would be a smart idea, and cause less confusion for seasoned managers,if DG would send out new/updated literature to us so we can all,new and old managers, can be on the same page. Or give us a refresher course. Something. I also agree that most stores need camera's or at the least mirrors to make it easier for the mngt.team to keep an eye on things. If DG is going to expect us to be mini cops then they need to assist all stores, not just the ones with high shrink. How did they get that way in the first place? Not enough monitoring ie.cameras/mirrors. Lets not all have to make it to that 3.0 or higher in shrink to get the help. Help us now and really save money in the long run DG. We at store level do our best to protect the company assests, now it's time to help yourselfs.  (Jan 22, 2008 | post #115)

For your info. I have worked in a busy store. Not sure how you'd be able to come to that conclusion. I'm not saying that my store has always been perfect. I've worked as an assistant in a really messed up store, or just went to assist in some. All i'm saying is that it's just going to take some time and patients, and alot of dedication from the whole team including the DM in those districts to get the job done. Not something that can be expected over night.  (Jan 17, 2008 | post #23)

w2's from dg

Well last i checked i didn't work in the payroll dept. or for H&R Block to help you with your taxes Christa. Seems to me that YOU"RE the "lazy" employee asking anyone else to do you're running and looking for numbers for you!  (Jan 16, 2008 | post #5)

Really this is almost to funny that i have to comment. You make it sound like you're sooo over worked. It can seem overwhelming at times, but really how much office paperwork is there to do? Maybe 15-20min at the most twice a week, not including doing the schedule. Taking out the trash isn't more than a 30 min job cardboard included. Damages you do once a week which would be another 30 min of your time. Now with the hourly recovery, if you actually do that every hr on the hr, everytime you do it, the time it takes the next hr is less and less. Then you make it sound like DG is locking you down in your store until the recovery is done for the next day..lol Well do what theY ask and actually stop what you're doing at 4:pm and start in. It doesn't take all night long to walk around and face and recover your store if you've done it through out the day. You're not a slave for the company like you try to make it out to be. You work for a company that just isn't going to take dirty, disorganized stores anymore and it's going to take a little effort and commitment. Which in my opinion i feel the ones that complain about it and think it's impossible, were/are working in the stores that managers have to go help clean because of lazy managers not doing their jobs, nor making their employees do theirs. Now you're going to be held accountable and not just slide by with the going home early, and long lunches that alot of managers have enjoyed getting away with.. not having to DO THEIR JOBS.  (Jan 16, 2008 | post #21)

I do have a great DM. Also i'm not a "suck up" as you say. I'm just an employee that takes alot of pride in my job and encourage my Team to do the same. There isn't any reason for someone to be working 60hrs a week, unless their fellow employees aren't doing their job in a productive manner and you've got to pick up the slack. Then i'd look at yourself and your training/coaching of them. It all comes back to how you run your store i feel.  (Jan 16, 2008 | post #20)

Food smelling like perfume

I do agree with some of the rolltainers being stacked crappy, but common sense tells you if a chemical has leaked on some grocery,,damage it out, don't stock it on the shelf and wait for a complaint about food tasting like a chemical or "perfume taste".  (Nov 12, 2007 | post #5)

Dollar stores becoming neighborhood outlets

AMEN! I'd also like to say that it is upsetting to hear employees and/or customers complain about a bad experience at DG. Not all stores are like that. I've been a manager for almost 4yrs now and it truly is what you put into it. I take offense to those who say DG employees are uneducated idiots, this is simply not true. All but 2 of my employees are single moms trying to make a living and do their best at their job. And they are rewarded for it. Not all the time from the company but by me as their manager, or from just having the satisfaction of knowing they are doing their jobs well. Cutting down DG isn't getting any of you anywhere. I can bet you 10 to 1 that everyone of you that have such large complaints about the company, most of them pretain to your manager or your dm. Well quit your boss if you must, but don't quit on DG. If ya'll that complain about your stores being dirty, clean them up. I bet you then you might get some more customers and then no doubt your hrs will go up right along with your sales. All DG employees have access to Kathleen G.'s phone number, it's on your calander. Use it if it's that bad. Bitch and moan, bitch and moan that's all i hear, but who really is stepping up to the plate to do anything to help your situation? It's always easier to blame someone else. Time to shape up or ship out i say. Obviously you're not happy with your jobs,so quit, move on,find something better. Employees like you aren't doing this company any good, but bad mouthing it to make it seem like the companies fault your stores look like crap. The matrix does work, my crew and i can vouch for it. It's all in how well your employees are trained and how well they do their job. I bet if half of you put as much energy into your work as you do being on here talking trash, you'd have a clean store too.  (Sep 19, 2007 | post #28)
