Garbage and Recycling Fee Update + Green Waste Bag Update

Today's hazardous waste collection event was a complete disaster. No, it's not because no one showed up! Just the opposite. The place was bombarded by good citizens wanting to do the right thing by disposing of their hazardous waste properly. I arrived around 12:30pm to the area. I could see three rows of vehicles at least 15 or so deep. That didn't seem too bad. But, one person was directing all traffic onto Altgelt Road. Too bad there weren't any signs to alert people to this fact. Algelt Road is used to truckers to access the Pilot truck stop. It's also a narrow road that's no in the best of shape. Now picture, vehicles trying to turn onto Altgelt, vehicles lined up on Algelt to wait their turn to enter the collection site, and you guessed it, semi-trucks trying to navigate the narrow middle lane that doesn't exist. Oh, and the truckers are trying to go both ways. A real mess! Why was this event so mis-managed and poorly planned. Why would anyone route traffic on Algelt knowing the truckers extensively use this road. By the way, there is also a Union Pacific train crossing on Algelt and of course, there was a train on the track stopped. We were all stuck their going nowhere. When the train finally cleared, the line continued another half mile. No thank you! I don't have 3 hours to wait in line and then be turned away because the event stops at 3:00pm. The city of New Braunfels and Comal County need to learn from this event and do a better job. They also need to hold this type of event at least once month. Otherwise, people are going to stop doing the right thing and throw their hazardous waste into the trash.  (Apr 9, 2011 | post #1)

Ripped Off

I'm sorry about your unfortunate situation regarding your contractor and his sub-contractors. I too am building a house. However, I was advised to have each contractor sign a release of lien after each payment or draw. This will protect me if the contractor fails to pay his sub-contractors. I wish you and your wife well.  (Feb 11, 2011 | post #2)

USDA announces possible turkey contamination

Just posted a news report from a local radio station in New Braunfels. Other than what is stated in the article, I haven't heard much else from the community. The New Braunfels SmokeHouse has a great reputation locally and nationally. I don't see this having a negative impact on their reputation or business.  (Nov 15, 2010 | post #5)

Scooter Store to ask for incentives

The Scooter Store, a company known for treating their employees to $100 handbags and all expense-paid outings to Las Vegas, now is asking local taxpayers to help them out. WOW!  (Feb 18, 2009 | post #1)
