Ola, minha amigas e amigos! Greetings from Paradise! The island of Terceira is absolutely gorgeous, and the people here are wonderful! We´re having a great time, and as you can see I´ve found a computer to use once in awhile. I look forward to catching up with you all - but for now I send you all my love. BTW Gryph, the flight was a NIGHTMARE and ended up costing us an extra thousand dollars and two extra days of travel. Long story short - do NOT fly Northwest Airlines EVER!! Adeus, my friends! You are so very welcome, Das!! I'm so glad you saw the beauty in her freedom. Butches (especially those over 50) had to make the choice to live "out" at very early ages. They faced most of the harrassment dished out at lesbians in the public elementary schools, and the teens are among peers given free reign to persecute. Looking the way they look, they've no chance to hide, so they take their beatings and dish out a few. They learn to protect themselves, and anyone else who might need it. There lives are filled with choices to be who they are, and to face the consequences without ducking. As a rule, butches look much more masculine than other women, yet uniquely female in their own way. And they ARE female, very womanly on the inside. Often tender hearted, usually extremely generous, very interested in parenting, gentle with animals, children, and elders, and can be found taking extra care over their physical appearance. The most fascinating butches are proud of the way they look. Like the one you saw. I'll bet you at home your motorcycle riding, tattooed, fascinatingly free butch mows the lawn, can be found dozing on the couch with a pet lying on top or beside her, and looking forward to the time when her son or daughter will drop in with the grand babies! Ohhhhh! Before you take them go to your local toy store and buy something that will help them identify the constellations! You can get stuff at very reasonable prices. They'll never forget the night grandpa gave them the stars. (Friday Jul 4 | post #25555)
Lesbiatopia: Lesbian Partner Sues Hospital.... a story that sho...
Hey now! Iggy's comments were heartfelt and on the side of LGBTQ folk being recognized as equals! I see ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with people living the heterosexual lifestyle speaking out against the wrongs faced by LGBTQers. Education occurs when the emotional self becomes invested in learning something. Iggy's reaction was directly from her heart, AND it was righteous anger at the way people "other" than herself were being persecuted. That's a HUGE first step, and I think she's to be congratulated!! We who live the life of being LGBTQ can become overly sensitive to the words straight people use, sometimes enough to block out the message of those words. When people I respect use terms like "lifestyle " and "choice" , I gently correct them. We don't live a "lifestyle ", we live our lives. We didn't "choose" to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and/or queer - we just "are" what we are. I had an incident at a hospital with my Beloved. She was having serious chest pain, and collapsed. The ambulance screamed her off into the night, and when I got to the hospital the clerk behind the desk wouldn't let me in because I wasn't "family" . Luck was on my side. Our daugter arrived and demanded I be allowed in, and my Beloved was only having an angina attack and was able to go home that night. She had three stents put in a week later. This tormenting of people who are panicky, scared, terrified, and sometimes horrified has GOT TO STOP. I'm glad the story upset Iggy enough for her to post her feelings to us. I want her to go out and share those feelings with as many people that might not know stories like these. I thank her, right now in front of God and everybody, for supporting our cause. We've got to get it done. Not everyone will know every one of our issues when they decide to stand on the side of equality and rights. It takes time to educate people. Judge them on their intent, and welcome them to the fight. (Friday Jul 4 | post #10)
Fasten your seat belts, darlings, it's going to be a bumpy ride! (Thursday Jul 3 | post #25512)
You know, I'd love to - but we're caught in the web of the new airline restrictions on luggage, cost for extra luggage, and weight restrictions on luggage, and my seven pound (comp and carrying case) laptop is just that much too much, not to mention the cost of internet connection from abroad. I'll be able to connect via a family member's computer every now and then, and for all those dear sweet people who've shared email addresses with me, if you send me your snail mail address I'll send you a postcard from the island of Terceira! The one good thing about enforced separation from the internet is that I tend to keep a rather detailed diary when I'm away. Never when I'm home, interestingly enough. But of course, I never go back and re-read the diaries, so go figure... Probably filled with thoughts about birds, and bugs, and nature (human and otherwise) in general...
