Elementary schools

I personally think that Rchardsville Elem is a really good school...... But I see alot of people have differing opinions of various schools. All of the schools are geared towards the areas in which they serve. Unlike other school districts in the state, like Jefferson County as an example, the schools cater to their areas. So if you live in a prominently white neighborhood with lots of money and strong community pride, then an elementary school in an area with a great deal of foreign families that are not as wealthy might not be a good school to them for their children. But I think that all of the schools do provide exactly what is good for the children. If the City and County school are not for you, then you can always try the Catholic schools in the area, as well as the Baptist.Christian schools. Larry McCrobie  (Dec 10, 2010 | post #29)

West Virginia School Music Programs/ Championed Funding b...

Larry McCrobie has become a strong voice of spreading the love of music to our youth in the communities. "Music is a way in which we can escape the problems we are facing, escape the stress that live can deal us. It give us the ability to take ourselves into a place where we can channel that energy and create something magical, something memorable, and something musical." Unfortunately it is rather difficult for the children of impoverished areas to gain the same education and advantages of those that are in communities and areas that can afford to do so. Teaming with several local, regional, and national groups, Larry McCrobie is making vocal the different areas in which you can help Northern West Virginia Children the recipient of much needed Musical Supplies and Instruments. "Marching Mountains is an amazing program that Ian Felton, a native of Preston County, created in order to help the children of Appalachia realize and benefit from the experience that music can give to you. I am thrilled to help him spread the word" McCrobie is also actively pursuing a Pepsi Refresh grant that will directly benefit the Preston County school system in the amount of $25,000, which will purchase all new instruments for the school district. "I can work myself to the ground trying to make a difference in these kids lives, but when it comes down to it, they just need the same opportunities and equipment that others take for granted." McCrobie asks that you take the time to support your local music organizations, and invest whatever you have available to you. "Whether it is $1 or $100, or more. Whether its time, talents, or encouragement, we MUST take an active role in the music arts of the future. If not, then we are in for a rough road." "My time and experience in music, both concert and Marching Band/Drum Corps, was an amazing time in my life. I learned a great deal from it and wouldn't change a minute of it. I encourage each and every one of you to check out the opportunities that exist for our youth, Drum Corps International, Music For All (Bands of America) West Virginia Music Educators Association, or simply any music organization. Look at what these groups have to offer, look at what they do, and try and do your best to support them in their efforts. "I am just one person. But as a person I can make a difference, and that's exactly what I intend to do. We all have our history and our past, but if we don't look forward to the future, then we will be lost, and changed." Marching Mountains' vision is to see a child become something more than that child would have become because an instrument found its way into their hands; to see band programs across Appalachia become more successful because band directors are working together using technology to share ideas and resources; to see local communities hold events that benefit their bands because they've seen a child with an instrument believe in themselves and now they believe more in their community.  (Aug 12, 2010 | post #1)
