I can't believe they did this

If you were form this area, you wouldnt find something like this out of place. I was born in Davenport, IA- about 20 miles from Galesburg, IL. Racial profiling is worse there than it is in places like LA or NY. It is shocking, but typical "white folk" behavior. Oooooooo, Black people cheering is so frightening! lol. If I lived in as much fear as most white people in this country, I'd kill myself. Take note, Coontruth.  (Jun 2, 2007 | post #12)

time to ban killer pit bulls

I havent been in this forum for a few weeks. Just as an update, particularly for DAVE, my pit bull got attacked by a German Shepard 2 weeks ago. My dog did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to provokre this attack. After calling Animal Control, my neighbors have now lost a pet. They are also paying for my vet costs for me. I don't blame their dog because the owner let his 6 year old 70 lb. daughter walf his 115 lb. dog. WOW!!!! Boy oh boy is he a responsible pet owner???  (May 31, 2007 | post #182)

My dog won't eat. I need advice. HELP!!

After calling the vet again, he asked if there was afemale dog in heat that had regular contact with my dog. One of my dog's playmates up the street, in fact, was in heat. The vet said that if you have a male dog that it not fixed around a female in heat, they are sometimes affected by it. They dont eat, they become more agressive than noirmal, and/or seem lethargic.  (May 19, 2007 | post #10)

Whatever, Dave. There is no use debating with you anymore. Ignorance is bliss.  (May 14, 2007 | post #129)

It is just my assumption, Dave, but I think your major issue with Pit Bull attacks is not that they attack- but that these attacks cause so much damage. I see more Chihuahuas go after people than anything, but they are little ankle biters and are not as powerful as pits. If they were, you would hear about 10x more attacks by Chihuahuas. Most of what evryone has said in defense of the breed is, in fact, correct and not just a pit bull owner's bias. It takes a dedicated person to raise these animals properly. You have to do research and be dedicated to making sure you train your dog properly. One book I suggest you read is "Caesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems", by Caesar Millan. This book is a good read for owners of all breeds, but it also discusses what is behind the temperment of Pit Bulls as well as some other breeds. There really is no point in launching personal attacks on people. Especially when you are not willing to do research and investigate, or be willing to listen to other people's views. You have spoken about how most pit bull owners are uneducated and trashy, but how willing are YOU to pick up a book and actually read about the breed? Educate yourself, please, if you are unwilling to take our word for it. P.S. The internet is not the be-all-end-all source for research. The library would be a better place to start.  (May 12, 2007 | post #125)

ONCE AGAIN YOU ARE USING INCORRECT STATEMENTS THAT YOU CANNOT BACK UP. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING: December, 1997 Dog Fancy magazine: "$30 Million Sniffer Nabs Smugglers" "Taylor, a 4-year old pit bull mix, shows a real knack for his job. In his first two years on the job, he has sniffed out more than $30 million worth of narcotics...Out of more than 100 dogs in the San Diego [CA, USA] district K-9 unit, Taylor ranks as a top performer." The article went on to say that Taylor, a muscular, 86-pound light brown brindle, was rescued from a city shelter by a canine enforcement officer only two days before he was due to be euthanized. He was selected largely because of his intense focus on a tennis ball the officer, Robert Root, bounced in front of the dog to test, in his words, how strong his intent is. With intensity being a integral characteristic of American Pit Bull Terriers, it is surprising that they are not used more often in this work. However, the article stated that "Although Taylor's eagerness was unmistakable, he was not the kind of dog Customs usually looks for. Part of the drug enforcement job entails going to airports where close contact with civilians is inevitable. 'The Customs Service wants a dog that presents a good image,' [said Root]. If you're working in an airport with a pit bull, it would probably scare a lot of people.'" Taylor also was described as working strictly on verbal commands with his handler, Barbara Trice, and being "intense in his affection for Trice." Although Taylor may not be your typical customs dog, he certainly demonstrates the heart of a typical American Pit Bull Terrier. Thanks to the San Diego branch of the US Customs Service for having enough courage to give Taylor a chance, and to Dog Fancy for giving the breed some needed positive press. Taylor shows what the breed is capable of, if given the opportunity.  (May 12, 2007 | post #124)

Do we, as African Americans, really want better for ourse...

I'm soo tempted to advise some of these applicants to improve their speech patterns and call me back, but I truly believe they do not see anything wrong with how they speak. I actually talked to someone who started mocking me on a call (I will use the characters The Brothers Brothers from In Living Color as an example), the funny thing is the guy didnt realize that he needed to speak with someone else in the office who was in charge of hiring for the position that he wanted. In the mean time, my co-worker had played his ghetto a$$ voicemail message from his answering machine for us earlier in the day and everyone in my office was laughing about it. Needless to say he didnt get the position. I was slightly offended, but when I thought about it the guy put himself out there like that. Even if I did speak to most people about their speech, the answers to the interview questions typically dont help the way they are selling themselves either.  (Apr 1, 2007 | post #13)

When are black people going to start producing what they ...

Cute, I've come to the conclusion that you are just about the only brotha on topix with any sense. The phucked up thing is that when you start defending your sistas, people want to throw stones at you too. That's why I only post here a few times on weekends. It seems like we cant unite on one serious issue. I cant say that on occasion I havent taken part in the frivolity, but dayum, it IS healty to engage in intelligent dialogue sometimes. I can't be bothered with this junk!  (Apr 1, 2007 | post #21)

See brotha, that was uncalled for. How are we, as a people, supposed to progress when we keep putting each other down. That's that Willie Lynch mentality keeping Black people slaves of the mind (old against young, men against women, light skinned against dark skinned). I know she came a little sideways at you first, but then you proceeded to make a generalization against ALL Black women thereafter. So, who really is the NI GGA in this diatribe?  (Apr 1, 2007 | post #8)

Do we, as African Americans, really want better for ourse...

Dougie, you said that you were a teacher right. I know that it's been some time since I was a high school student, but when I was in high school it seemed as though many of the teachers did not care wheb it came to Black students. My school had a lot of magnet programs and so some teachers taught classes for students following the average curriculum and accelerated curriculums. Many of the students in the magnet programs were Caucasian, along with a sprinkling of Black kids. The regular classes were composed of mainly minority students. It seemed as though they did not care about the progress of the minority students but they were extremely involved in tracking the progress of students in the accelerated programs. If anything I would have expected the opposite. Do you see this happening as an educator amonst your peers, or including yourself?  (Apr 1, 2007 | post #10)
