Those are the types of people on bikes that make others look bad, there is no reason anyone on a bike should be swerving back and forth. Staying predictable is one of the most important things to do when riding road, and just like motorists there are people that don't adhere to and are subject to a ticket as well. If it is a single lane going one way it's not safe to ride all the way to the right because of parked cars opening their doors. As far as multiple lanes going one direction, we have the right to the an entire lane and I excercise that right everytime I ride because there is always that one person that tries to squeeze through when there obviously isn't room. As far as registering a bike and paying insurance, there couldn't be a bigger joke. The only person that would get hurt in an accident involving a bike is the person on the bike, what little damage there would be to the vehicle wouldn't be near equivalence to the damage a car would cause.  (Dec 11, 2012 | post #11)

A bike is considered a vehicle under federal law and have the same rights on the road as any other vehicle. The intersection that he was hit at wasn't a busy one, it's a back road it's really not going to make that much of a difference to slow down a moment wait until it's safe and then pass. It's important to have ways to get from point A to point B safely throughout the city for cyclists whether that being separate bike paths or just a line painted on the side of a roadway. Bikes are here to stay and they will only be on the increase and that is why it is important to deal the traffic situation now because riding with traffic is the only choice we have as commuters as of now. Common sense is riding the road because it doesn't make sense to ride sidewalk because it's for pedestrians, not to mention the often times disrepair the sidewalk is in. Speed isn't something to be concerned about, your destination will most likely still be there by the time you slow down wait your turn, and safely pass.  (Dec 11, 2012 | post #10)

I am writing you in hopes of getting a story out about a local Bike advocate Justin Tipton that is a founding member of the JC Bike Party and Little City Bike Collective A free community service. He was hit by a vehicle at the corner of Lark Street and Skyline Drive and the vehicle fled the scene. It would help our cause tremendously considering the goal of the JC Bike Party is to try and influence our local government of our need for bicycle lanes and this is a prime example of why. He was on his way to be interviewed for a bike documentary when a vehicle hit him and left the scene. We need a safer and better integrated infrastructure for a growing community of people on bikes that encourages people from all parts of the city to get out of their car and on a bike by making a safer environment for them. Even experienced cyclists have a difficult time commuting due to lack of infrastructure and lack of knowledge that people on bikes have the same rights on the road as any other vehicle. He also started the Little City Bike Collective which focuses on getting as many people on bicycles as possible to support more sustainable transportation by showing people how to maintain their bikes and also how to build them from scratch. If there is anything that you can do to get his story out you would be doing both him and your community a huge service. Please share this with everyone that you can.  (Nov 16, 2012 | post #1)

JC Bike Party

It is a no drop leisurely ride for cycle awareness between 6-8 miles for critical mass and variety as far as route. Everyone is welcomed, there is also a variety of bikes from road, mountain, BMX, fixie, etc. We often meet at a local business as well afterwards. Geared to be for everyone from first timers to experienced mainly for awareness to get infrastructure put into the city. This month the theme is zombie, and it is the last Friday of the month at 5 meeting at the galaxy lounge downtown.  (Oct 8, 2012 | post #4)
