I don't work for free. I am an employee. No one on the board is an employee. The pay helps justify the hours spent fighting the problem. The only thing I'll acknowledge is no one ever fixed a problem by complaining about it. They fixed it by attacking it. I absolutely marvel at Health Worker's comments. In his/her world, having a job, and avoiding being on financial support is a disqualifier for finding a solution. Just the fact, the workers are the people supporting subsistance gives everyone a dog in the fight. SSDD, I acknowledge the problem of drugs in the community is real, and so do many others you've slammed under you many aliases. That's why we keep attacking it from every angle. Some battles we win. some we lose, but we keep trying. What have you done?  (7 hrs ago | post #21)

HT, LP, CC, DM, 007, LMBUH, etc.... FYI, I was required to take a urinalysis test prior to employment and am subject to periodic unannounced drug testing. I accept thei s requirement as part of my employment. Your ignorance of the facts and motivations which drive people to put in the time and effort to combat the attractiveness of the drug culture is astonishing. The vast majority of people who commit time and energy do so as volunteers. I could be making far more money, with much less time on task, if making money was my sole motivation. Is Drug testing the solution or is counseling for families who find themselves in a subsidy situation? Hypothetically, if a family does find itself in a subidized situation, would it be beneficial for them to be required to attend financial counseling? Would certain "perks" have to be given up ie; pets, cigarettes, alcohol, extra cell phones? This is a question not a condemnation of anyone. How do we break the grip of subsistence on those who find themselves living on it?  (13 hrs ago | post #16)

HT, DM, CC,007, etc... Perhaps I misinterpreted this line from your post #2,....People b!tches, rants and raves over things they don’t fully understand.... And you didn't mean to suggest the question was posed by someone not fully informed. What did you mean by that statement? David, In order for drug testing to make them think about their bennies, wouldn't we have to have some punishment for failing the drug test? What would you suggest? I wonder how many foster parents really take advantage of the system? I know there are stories, but it appears the vast majority help the kids within the regulations. I don't dispute subsistance is one of the economic engines in this community. I'd like to explore the alternate possibilities of replacing subsistance. Perhaps drug testing is an option. It's worth discussing.  (14 hrs ago | post #9)

HT, What an interesting response. I think it comes down to "Why, it will just cost more" and "don't speak unless you fully understand something". Wow! Let's just start with one basic fact, SSI is not a tax, I know it's getting more and more difficult to discern it from a tax, but it's not one. I also don't think asking a question constitutes ranting or raving. David, Let me pose a question to your question. What would be the benefit of having a drug test? Chuck  (15 hrs ago | post #4)

Lee County Cab Service

I just finished listening to a brief from the Regional Director of Daniel Boone Tansit and I have to say, public transportation is alive and well in Lee, Owsley, Estill, Powell, Wolfe, Jackson and Breathitt Counties. Did you know, if you are going on a job interview of have a job in any of the above counties, Daniel Boone Transit will pick you up at home, take you to the job and bring you home for $5??? That's right, if you live at Old Landing and have a job at the McDonalds in Jackson (they are hiring, by the way), they will take you there and back for $5. Heck, they'll take you and bring you back for a job interview. If you want to travel anywhere in the city limits, it's $5 round trip. If you want to travel anywhere in Lee County, it's only $7 a round trip. If you meet the certain criteria, and are on medicaid, you can travel for free to medical appointments. Give them a call. They've got special rates for trips to most of the urban areas as well.  (Tuesday Dec 15 | post #1)
