Boone elects the youngest "high school diaploma" Mayor

Voting Public, you're an idiot. If you are going to insult someone's intelligence the one thing you HAVE to do is use correct grammar, and you couldn't do it. Glad you're not Mayor.  (Nov 12, 2013 | post #12)

Ball-Less Politics = Andy Ball

The Town was well above the amount of reserves required for the rainy day fund. The town is still above the required amount. It was a smart move to not raise taxes, as the increased tax rate would likely stick around even as tax revenue is forecasted in increase in the coming years.  (Sep 28, 2013 | post #30)

Oh and what do Ted Turner, Bill Gates, Oprah, John Mackey, Abraham Lincoln, David Karp, and F Scott Fitzgerald all have in common? None finished college. While you Professor, never left.  (Sep 22, 2013 | post #18)

How long does one have to live in Boone until you all deem them invested in the town!? Hell, Andy has lived here for long enough to be RE-elected to the council..and I assume he was here for a while before he was elected to office the first time. Having actually ran for office, served in office, sat on boards, and spent time getting to know the town and it's people...he seems MORE invested than the rest of the candidates. And just so you know...a huge percentage of this town is a young person with a low income who works in the hospitality industry...and those people need to be represented too. And lay off the college degree thing, its a piece of paper. Virginia Foxx has a freaking PHD, hows that working out for us?  (Sep 22, 2013 | post #17)

what has Andy done that you disagree with?  (Sep 14, 2013 | post #36)

Jenny Church for Boone Mayor

I'm sure Jenny is a nice person - but the sole fact that she didn't decide she wanted to run for Mayor until after filing does not look promising. She needs to run for student council first. Andy is the only person in this race who actually knows what issues face the Town, and he is the best prepared to advocate on behalf of the Town. What is Jenny Church's record on the affordable housing task force? Did she attend all meetings? Was she informed and prepared? Ball is by far the best prepared to serve as Mayor.  (Sep 9, 2013 | post #17)

The most boring unpopular Mayor race of all time

My vote is for Ball.  (Aug 29, 2013 | post #2)

There are tons of articles tying fish kills to coal-tar sealant...many citing expert biologist and river-keepers. I would be open to your opinion as to what caused the fish to die, but all you can provide is a devils advocate response. It's OK if you do not like Ball, but you need to find a better reason than disputing science.  (Aug 20, 2013 | post #18)

I am supporting Andy for his leadership on banning coal-tar sealant. Boone was able to enact a near-ban on the chemical that was responsible for the Hodges Creek fish kill that was a result of the sealant used in the BB&T parking lot. I believe Boone was the first NC city to do so. He has the strongest record of any candidate when it comes to protecting our mountain environment.  (Aug 19, 2013 | post #14)

Rachel Maddow Show features Watauga BOE

While a single student may only be here for 4 years, a student population will always be here. By allowing a single student to vote is giving a voice to a large voting block that has a huge impact on all levels. Should we not allow the elderly to vote because they may well only be around for 4 more years? I think the argument is very flawed.  (Aug 18, 2013 | post #9)

John Mena Part II

Are you aware that as Mayor you do not get a vote? You basically get to cut ribbons and run the meetings. Can you explain how you will accomplish the things you mention from a weak-mayor position?  (Aug 11, 2013 | post #8)

Mena for Mayor

If Mena really wanted to 'change' the town he would have ran for Town Council (where he actually gets to vote on the issues) when he lost his last campaign for Mayor. Nothing to see here.  (Jul 31, 2013 | post #5)
