Cursive signs off as technology overtakes it

One of my proudest possessions is a book report written in 1892 by my 12 year old great grandmother. It is full of misspelled words...big ones, archaic words. It's a report about Abraham Lincoln. One of the things I love about Abraham Lincoln is his handwriting, and I have modeled my own on his writing style, which is simple and elegant. The nature of carefully dipping your pen into ink, blotting the extra out so as not to spoil the thought. I can believe the reviewer when he says he didn't improve. It is a lost and 'unnecessary' art. My great grandmother's book report was done with utmost care, and practice...and it was written in pencil. The pages had been lodged between the pages of a large, old book, and preserved from sun and water damage. Pristine and not at all brittle with age. A lovely family heirloom.  (Sep 23, 2011 | post #1)

Election Poll, Sept 2011 - Lancaster, PA

I hate the perpetual campaigns. They never end. Why even have the debates now? Why not wait til next year, during the election cycle?  (Sep 23, 2011 | post #1)

Lady Gaga makes a visit to Lancaster, did you see her?

My daughter works at CafĂ© Chocolate nearby. That's who didn't see her, but knows someone who was there who saw someone who did.  (Sep 22, 2011 | post #3)

I didn't see her myself, but I saw someone who knows someone who might possibly have seen her in Lititz at some pub. Boar's Head, I think it was.  (Sep 22, 2011 | post #1)

Siblings Planned Life in Mexico After Crime Spree

The Gringo Sibs wouldn't have lasted in Mexico, where death is the ever constant companion of the masses. There, justice would have been meted out painfully and swiftly...probably using a nice, shiny American weapon provided by the geniuses of the WTF. Sorry, typo. I meant to say ATF. Probably.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #4)

Who do you support for Governor in Pennsylvania in 2010?

Well now, the smirking photoshop of a gum-chewing kid as my avatar being the standard for divining what my political beliefs are is a first! Mother Effingby is confused! I haven't said anything but that the topic isn't being discussed, the topic is disgust. The pun is lost on you boys. As I recall, the question was about whom we supported for governor of Pretzelvania, and my first response was: Whatever jerk isn't in jail. As it is, I don't have enough information on who is running for governor of Our Fair State to say, but I am intrigued by the assumption that I'm a liberal democrat woman, and that's why men are so angry. Avatar being proof of that. My guess is that men and women are angry, rightly so, because of the amount of corruption in the ruling classes, the ever grasping tentacles of the Nanny State, and a breakdown of civility in general....which are not Democrat nor Republican leanings at all.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #5734)

Smoggiest: PA is 6th in the Nation; Lancaster is 10th Sma...

Oh please. I have lived many places in this country, and Lancaster, by far, has some of the best air around, except for Lititz Road, between Lancaster Rd. and Fruitville Pike. Then we're talking stank fest. I can't imagine living along that stretch of the road, because it always seems, shall we say, somewhat 'infused' with the ripe scent of rotting trash and animal filth, but overall, the air is far better here than in Billings Montana. It seems on any given day, there is a yellow patina to the whole place, accompanied by the whiff of refining oil.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #1)

Somewhere along the line there was a topic being discussed, and now the topic seems to be disgust.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #5728)

Schools have no place for bullies

Hear, hear! I completely agree with VanNostram. And they should resume teaching the weaklings how to box, like they did my brother. But NOOOO, everyone has to be nice. It's a tyranny, I tell ya. NIce sucks. Always with the nice. I need to go punch someone now, I'm so worked up.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #4)

I believe in Creatiolution. Problem solved. Whatever jerk is not in jail should be governor. We need jerks in politics, but we shouldn't elect them to any office until after they are out of jail, first. That makes more sense than say, electing Blagojevich, although he has dreamy hair, to be sure.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #5687)

If I start investing heavily in the lottery, will I increase my chances of bankrupcy before or after I win or lose the lottery?  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #1)

j and r's pizza

Why on Earth would anyone want to eat there, when East Petersburg has TWO COUSINS. TWO FRIGGIN' COUSINS, man! You can't even begin to understand the rapture, the joy, the weeping happiness that a TWO COUSINS pizza induces. No. Nosirree bob! You are sadly mistaken. You have no idea. You say "I am making a guarentee if you come to our store, you won't be disappointed. " Well, already I'm disappointed. You have egregiously misspelled guarantee. That right there will put me off outlandish promises for at least one episode of Dancing with the Stars.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #2)
