Dana Chandler has passed away.

Dana's brother, Tim, now states quite unambiguously that "she killed my brother". If the police do not give out details soon, I will name the suspect as well as the officers involved so that the public will know what it should. It should be noted that the suspect told police that she did not drive him to the hospital because she did not have a driver's license. She was unclear about why she did not call 911.  (Dec 14, 2013 | post #2)

Dana Chandler has passed away.

Dana Chandler, originally from Jeffersonville where his family lives, most recently from Johnson, passed away 2 days ago. So far, there has been no word from the authorities even after this extended time. He looked fine and was in a good mood when I last saw him, though he died apparently only an hour later. Since his girlfriend had told a few people prior that she intended to kill him, it really came as no surprize to them, rhough they were still shocked. She has told stories for years about other murders she commited, even going so far as to describe the feelings of power and what it felt like to hold the knife. The fact that the sheriff and SA are hiding this information means that no one has been arrested and that this "fall" made to look like an accident was aided by someone walking around freely among us.  (Dec 14, 2013 | post #1)

Lamoille Sheriff - What's The Deal? Murder Hidden?

It is really a puzzle that the largest police agency in Lamoille County has so little information available. They have nothing that could be said to resemble a web site unlike every police department in the country since the 90's. They do not seem to release regular reports of their activities, so it becomes a question what it is exactly that the taxpayers get for their money. It is beyond credibility to suggest that with all the people that they emply, not a single one has the skills to produce at least a rudimentary web page with data, bios, blotters, and basic safety information for the people of the county. Just in the last few days, there was death in Lamoille County. Right now, plans are for there to be an autopsy and a toxicology exam. The death occurred under what could not be considered other than "suspicious " circumstances and may involve a murder by an individual who has committed at least 2 of them (possibly more) in the past and gone unprosecuted. This sort of thing seems to happen far too often in this area. What do they have to hide? Why no information on why the suspect is walking aroung scot free, possibly planning yet another murder since they must be getting easier to commit after the first few? It seems that Sheriff Marcoux has fallen into the same system that existed when Sheriff Manosh routinely hid things concerning relatives and friends, and even used departmental vehicles to drive intoxicated members of his family home repeatedly. The "old boy network" of a hidden justice not subject to public review is alive and going strong. Why have they said nothing about this murder? One also has to question that State Atorney's commitment to the people who elected him since he has not been forthcoming about this murder, either. They live in their own world and until they have a web page to communicate with their constituents and a local news organization that is not owned by one of the "old boys", Lamoille will continue to be the bed of corruption and filth that it currently is.  (Dec 14, 2013 | post #1)

Sterling Area Services Connection To Phil Ciotti

He's a real sleeze-ball. But he has skills, I have to give him that. He managed to manipulate the idiots in a number of different places where he has worked, from a police department to mental health to his own private gig as investigator for the Medical Practice Board. I lost a job due to lies he concocted, though I never even knew what they were. I was simply told that my contract would not be renewed. But I am far from the only one. His macho act has enamored too many females to count, and even though some of them supported me, I don't think even they were aware of the specific stories told by Mr. Ciotti. One of his skills was making accusations that were so hideous and horrible that no one even wanted to repeat them out loud. That ultimately allows lies to thrive since there is then no way to counter them or question their reasonableness. He is a psychopath, selling guns illegally while working for the police, among many other things.  (Dec 14, 2013 | post #6)

Family Questions Teacher Leaving Student Alone On Trip

That's really the whole point. How was the school involved in this at all? If they just gave her a ride, then they had no responsibility to babysit her. If she had gone on a plane, would they have expected the pilot to stay with her (or nearby), too? But if it was a school choice, then they had the job of staying there. But I'm sure the teacher did what he was told to do, so people should lay off him and chase the real morons in this, the school administrators, who apparent sent a young teacher alone across state lines with a 17-year-old girl. Tell me how the poor guy could have done everything right under those circumstances.  (May 17, 2013 | post #31)

Family Questions Teacher Leaving Student Alone On Trip

It looks like it's true that the majority of people in the US are functionally illiterate. From the posts, it's obvious that people were able to read the words but did not understand what they read. The question did not concern the student, her maturity, or her ability to "make it on her own". The question was solely about whether the school had any responsibility toward her. That is unrelated completely to her personal qualities, or those of any other "kids today". The poor teacher was sent acroos state lines alone with a female student. I'm sure he was a prince among gentlemen, but what could the school have been thinking in this age where appearance is so much more important than substance? Were they TRYING to get him in trouble? And I don't believe that he, as a new teacher, would defy the school if they had told him to stay in Omaha. Who knows? He could have had a sick kid and they even told him to drive back. He deserves thanks for driving her at all. But any school administrators who would set this up, not send at least a female teacher, and then fail to even defend the teacher for most likely doing what he was told, are ignorant hicks that have no business being within a mile of any child, let alone designing their education. They all need to get different jobs.  (May 17, 2013 | post #30)

Same Sex Marriage in Nebraska

LOL. It will be long before 2043, Meg. It's a sign of the times. I certainly have nothing against it and it is simply a matter of equal treatment under the law. What consenting adults do is not my business or anyone else's (unless something too extreme is taking place, like torture, murtilation, or other things that are illegal in all imaginable contexts). But, you know, I am a person who really loves new things. I have all the gadgets, all the up-to-date paraphernalia of today's world. I love new ideas almost as much as new things. But, I also have a strong conservative streak. I don't want to toss out things if the only reason is that they are old. I don't want to replace the old with the new unless it is certain that it is an actual improvement. And I believe that culture as a whole has a sort of knowledge not present in individuals that indicates to me that something long done by humans must have a more important purpose if it has persisted over long periods of time, even if that purpose may be unknown to us in this time and place. That extends to language as well. What I really don't like is the changing of the meaning of the actual word "marriage ". The word has always been used for men and women, usually forming a partnership to have children. The pursuit of sex for pleasure alone is something that has always been done, but only fairly recently admitted as a major motive for forming relationships. So, I think the word "marriage " should be left alone and the new partnerships called "civil unions", or something similar. Now before someone yells that that isn't fair enough, that same sex couples will then still be segregated to their own group, I will also propose that no one, not even man-woman couples, can any longer get "married " in the US and that all such future partnerships be called "civil unions" for everyone. That preserves the traditional meaning of the word "marriage " so that future historians will not have to label events as before and after the adoption of same sex unions. They can simply say that someone was married or in a civil union and that will place the event historically as before or after the widespread adoption of unions involving same or opposite sex couples. So, CIVIL UNIONS FOR EVERYONE! and MARRIAGE FOR NO ONE!  (May 17, 2013 | post #3)

How Much do You Love God?

It has been my fondest hope that this post was actually a joke and that the OP ("original poster") was just pulling our legs with all of this. But, I guess it isn't, at least judging from some of the replies. But it is absolutely amazing to me that adult human beings in some cases can be so exceptionally superstitious. Superstition is something that we sort of expect from the incompletely matured mind of a child. But to have an actual, living, breathing adult state that he or she believes in ghosts is a sign either of mental illness or mental retardation. I suppose it can be comforting to a child to imagine some person living in the sky that watches over them all the time (though it could make them paranoid), but adults should have found other ways of feeling safe and secure than conjuring up imaginary beings. This being supposedly sends sinners to a horrible fate, burning eternally without being consumed, suffering unimaginable pain and distress, gnashing teeth, even. But loves us. Wow. I'm glad no one that loves me acts that way. With friends like that.... So please grow up and stop saying things that will make children believe in ghosts, too. They need to focus all their attention on their real lives and what they will become without dealing with someone else's hallucinations.  (May 17, 2013 | post #8)

Brenda Smollen Convicted Child Molester

What you have done is absolutely despicable. Posting someone's address and targeting them for revenge is an uncivilized, cowardly, and illegal act. No matter what your motivation and intention, there is simply no excuse for this type of behavior. We live in a civilized country with a full and operating legal system. That system was designed, first and foremost, to protect the innocent, but its close second main function is to convict the truly guilty and make changes that will prevent any future threat to society from the convicted individual. The system has faults and you will probably find few who would dispute that. And it also can be slow and tedious, frustrating and seemingly deaf to criticism. But it works, and works well, for the most part. There has not been found a better alternative. If you have reasons why you think the justice system cannot handle this particular case as it should, there are places to vent your frustration. You can address the court, talk with prosecutors, enlist the aid of elected officials, and so on. In other words, to fix a system, you need to work from within the system. If none of that is satisfactory, you still have the ballot box with which to express your views. Ultimately, getting people elected that support your ideas is the best way to put them into practice. You could even run for office yourself. In any case, please refrain from attacks on anyone "presumed innocent". The presumption is made in order to protect you as well as anyone you believe to be guilty. Throwing away that protection makes you a possible target as well as all those you care about. How would you feel if someone you love was accused like this, even if it were false? This isn't the Wild West and we don't live in caves. Try to behave responsibly for the sake of your children (or other children) who watch all of us adults as rĂ´le-models for what is right, and more importantly, what is wrong.  (May 17, 2013 | post #2)

Sterling Area Services Connection To Phil Ciotti

It's a small world, after all, and it's very possible that we know one another. In more than 20 years of working in or around the human services field in Vermont, I have certainly met a large number of people. Unfortunately, that time has also made me privy to things I sometimes wish I didn't even know. One thing that I'm really curious about is whether they still use "facilitated communication " in this State. If you are not familiar with it, it is the "new age" incarnation of the Ouija board. "Facilitators " (known by me as "actors" ), guide the hands of persons unable to communicate and this supposedly allows them to express ideas. Amazing how they know things they could not possibly have known, speak new languages, and have profound opinions, miraculously similar to those of the "facilitators "! I had all I could do to repress undo hilarity at the serious meetings where this miracle was discussed. that so many people could be stupid to that degree at the same time was an eye-opener. Anyone question it? Not that I could tell. It was anathema to even suggest that the whiole thing was funny beyond words. Yet, that is how they spent untold amounts of taxpayer money.  (Nov 16, 2012 | post #4)

New Romance?

It looks like the old dog has learned new tricks. Witnesses say that a new romance has sprung up, and the less than hidden expressions of it have been noticed by all. Our employee Jorge Maldonado has always been known as quite the lady's man. Few are surprised, though the fact that it is so out in the open is new. Jorge, you may remeber, is one of the people who made vicious and unfounded accusations of horrible acts against someone who had been his friend for over 12 years. Unfortunately, the whole mess just showed how many sick and twisted ideas floated around in his own head since there was no correspondence to reality. That such dirty thoughts should occupy his thinking shows his own nweed for specialists in mental disease. And pity the poor children, though they will be liberated, one truth at a time, and people who know are able to discuss these matters at school and at "double-agent s'" homes when the kids are being babysitted (babysat?). Meanwhile, it appears that his main squeeze is at least not giving it away to all the neighborhood men as she used to when a child. But her mental condition overall has not improved, though she got one of those "special " high school diplomas (as in "Special Olympics") that she shows off like it was real.  (Nov 16, 2012 | post #1)

Prank backfires for Hyde Park volunteer firefighters

"Simple Assault"? Are you kidding me? I suppose that is what actually happened, but it was about to become a kidnapping. "Attempted kidnapping" sounds more like it to me. It's really sad that when there is already a shortage of firefighters, this boy and any others who hear this story are going to give fire stations a wide berth. If these guys are not xcharged as felons, it speaks to the cosy relationship with the police. Hazing and initiations are well known to have a strong sexual component. These rituals help establish pecking orders. This situation could easily have escalated to a rape situation, if that was not already part of their plan. These things have a tendency to spiral out of control, as most reasonable people know. I hope these guys never go back to firefighting - I wouldn't want them near me or mine! These predators need to be locked up.  (May 16, 2012 | post #1)

Gun Control - Morrisville, VT

Violence would be reduced if all were armed. Each passenger should be given a gun before boarding a plane. That would stop hijacks.  (Sep 29, 2011 | post #3)

Marijuana - Morrisville, VT

Clearly, you know very little about this topic. It would benefit everyone if you refrained from mouthing off about things of which you are so abundantly ignorant. Please don't vote, either, since you will almost certainly fail to understand any issues of importance.  (Sep 29, 2011 | post #3)
