Random Acts of Kindness

My opinion and mine only. Tolerance is truley an awesome thing. I think holidays or Holy Days are very important, no matter why you celbrate. If you celebrate the birth of Jesus, awesome. If you celbrate the family getting together, awesome. There are holidays with religious conotations such as Easter, Christmas,Hanakah, Ramedan etc. There are also holidays with non religious conotations such as veterans day, memorial day and many others. I am Catholic but being Catholic does not make me a better person than someone who is Hindu, Muslim, non believer etc. There has been alot of evil done in the name of religion. There has been alot of evil done just to be done. I lived in a Muslim country. I went to school with Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus on and on. I can say that I have known people of many different faiths, cultures and races. I have had the pleasure of knowing some of the best and some of the worst mankind has to offer. As far as a chapter on holidays or Holy Days as you say, I think it is an important chapter. Not just the religious holidays but all the holidays, as they each are important in one way or another to someone.  (6 hrs ago | post #1495)

Random Acts of Kindness

I have come to the conclusion that yes I am old, maybe I am wise not for sure. Receiving gifts are fun but giving is so much better. I love seeing someone I have purchased a gift for really enjoy it.To take the time to think, fight shopping crowds and this year to wrap very pretty with bows and all the doo-dads. It does my heart good. I purchased about 8 gifts for toys for tots, nothing extravegant mind you, only one gift was $10 the rest ranged from $5 to $8 so (tax included) I did not spend over $80. I have these visions of children opening these gifts on Christmas morning and enjoying them. I have visions of the parents being thankful that someone thought of their child, not even knowing their child. I can imagine these children and these parents so clearly, because I was one of these parents and my children were some of these kids. I am truely thankful that although I am always struggling to make ends meet I was able to share at least some. So I had to ask for an extension for one of my bills. It got paid didn't it? I have reached the age when my kids say what do you want for Christmas? I answer for all of you to be here for dinner. The dinner which I purchased all the groceries, then spent hours in the kitchen to prepare. The dinner in which I made sure your favorite foods and pies are a part of. I want you kids to be here to enjoy it, and for me to enjoy you, and NO FIGHTING!!!! I will put my grandmothers china and silver out to eat off of. My mother will see not only her mothers dinnerware being enjoyed by herself, but will see her mothers grandchild, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren enjoying the meal. 4 generations will be eating off the china that was purchased by the 5th generation. We will eat early on Christmas Eve (i have to work on Chirstmas day) so that we can attend the childrens Christmas Eve mass. Tradition, families and giving is what Christmas is all about. Yeah I am old. This is all I want for Christmas.  (17 hrs ago | post #1487)

When my children where younger and questioned why WE received gifts when it was Christs birthday I told them that Christmas is Christs birthday party and we all are invited to the party. We give gifts to each other because he gave us the first gift and we continue the tradition. A little simplistic I know, but they understood it. Merry Christmas to all  (Yesterday | post #1477)

I love pretty wrapping. The bows and frills. I never do this I usually wrap throw a tag and it's done. Well this year I took time to wrap neatly and decorate with ribbons and bows. I am so proud of my presents they look so pretty. I am not really to sure why, you really can't see all the effort that went into them under the tree. It sure as heck won't matter when it comes to opening them, but still.... They are so pretty, I wonder if I can talk everyone into just leaving them alone and admiring them instead of opening them? I guess if nothing else instead of admiring all the pretty presents that others do I can now say, hey I can do pretty wrapping too.  (Tuesday | post #1473)

I would be sharing with my pets too. Christmas dinner is very traditional for me. Turkey, ham, stuffing, hot rolls etc. Of course pumpking and pecan pie for dessert. I make everything from scratch also except for rolls and pie crust. I don't know why it just seems right I guess. I have to work Christmas this year so it will only be ham, no stuffing or turkey and we will do it on Christmas Eve, since I have that day off. Oh well I guess some one has to work it might as well be me. Not without plenty of whining though.LOL  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #1453)

Free can get really expensive that is for sure. I just about choke every time I need ferret supplies. They need food, litter, stuff to go in their water so they don't have an odor, and of course the non essentials like treats, toys etc. I would like to say it was my own little RAK taking in 2 ferrets because their owners did not have the time for them, but I can't. It was a little selfish on my part. I always thought owning ferrets would be neat, I just wasn't going to pay the price of them. I will admit they are far more fun to own then I ever imagined. So yes I walk into pet-co, look at all the high dollar ferret stuff saying "oh they will like this, oh they will like that" then cringe when I write the check. LOL I have been trying to get a picture of them, to trade out with my cat, but ferrets don't seem to be very photogenic (spelling ?). Still working on it though. I still have one more cat I need to showcase, but will be changing soon.  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #1450)

Stop sign? Very quickly. It doesn't take long to dig **** , fill it with cement and toss a red sign into it. Traffic light? Since this is being built from the ground up, we have time to get the light in so it will be ready when the station opens. The grade schoolers will be pleased to know that by the time they get to the Jr High, it will be up and running to slow traffic down for them.  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #8)

Call Christmas by its name

I have always said, as far as different religions we are all seeking the same goal. Short of devil worshipers, and I don't think that would be considered a religion, we are taught to love and respect each other. Help your fellow man. We may sing different hymns, attend different amounts of time in church, services may do things differently, but it pretty much come down to the same thing. Respect, help and love each other, and if you can't exactly love someone at least tolerate and treat with decency. As far as the Muslims go. I will not say I know what the Koran teaches or all the ins and outs of their religion. I will say this though. I lived in a Muslim country for 3 years when I was younger. Other than language and culteral differences they are pretty much the same as you and me. They are a whole heck of a lot like you and me. They laugh, love their families, go to work, protect each other, fight with each other etc.. yeah pretty much like us here in the US. Thank you to whoever gave the lesson on the X and Christ, I don't want to go back and read the posts to find out who. I found that very interesting. I had no idea. I learned something new. PS I went shopping yesterday and wished all clerks a Merry Christmas. Majority responded in kind, those who didn't usually said something along the lines of you too. Just because we keep hearing about retailers not being allowed to say Merry Christmas does not mean we must follow suit. So.......MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!! May all enjoy this time of year. If you believe in Christ (I do) enjoy celebrating the birth of Christ. For those who do not believe, enjoy family, friend and fellowship.  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #270)

State pays Bloomfield more than $1 million in back taxes

Time to clarify what I was writing. That should be a 4 way stop and a 3 way stop. and not when the kids needed traffic to slow down and cross the highway, but when the police moved in they needed traffic to slow down.  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #6)

Yeah it does make you wonder, doesn't it? Things don't always make sense to me in Bloomfield. My favorite has always been the old Blanco Hwy. I went to school at Rio Vista. 3 of my kids went to Rio. Of course the neighbor hood kids walked, walking along the road, crossing the road. No stop signs. Then the police take over Rio Vista and a four way stop and a a way stop were put in,along the road. Not when the kids needed traffic to slow down and cross the highway, but when the police did. I guess the powers that be, thought our kids were smarter and more trust worthy, about crossing roads, than the police. LOL  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #5)

Random Acts of Kindness

I have finished my shopping, went to Walmart, toys for tots there so I grabbed a few things. Went to Safeway a lady with a sign (hungry and broke) was there so grabbed her a sandwich, chips and some water. Ran by K-kart more toys for tots collection going on. So of course grabbed a few things for that bin too. I had given more girl things so I got two boys watches at k-mart. Hmm I wonder why I am always broke? I haven't figured that one out yet. I went by pet-co too. Sweet little rescue kittens. I passed them up though. My way of saving money.LOL Between 4 fish, 3 cats, 2 dogs and of course the 2 free ferrets I shouldn't look to close at the kittens. Instead I went and bought ferret supplies. By the way if anyone is wondering free ferrets are expensive. I think I just answered my own question. Why am I always so broke? It is all these animals.  (Saturday Dec 19 | post #1444)
