Fireball in the sky!

Did anyone else see that fireball in the sky south of York on Sunday September 29th at about 7pm?  (Sep 30, 2013 | post #1)

Gingrich argues for eliminating Iranian govt if it moves ...

Nothing surprising here at all. We no longer have control of our own government, and haven't for a long time.  (Mar 5, 2012 | post #6)

You DO read/listen to a variety of information sources, yes? Then you already know that the highly toxic tar-sands sludge to be run through the pipeline would be sent to export-only duty-free (meaning no taxes would be paid) refineries to be processed and sent overseas for sale. None of the oil would be sold or used in the United States, and in fact the United States would receive no financial benefit from it; only the oil companies that pipe it, refine it, ship it and sell it to Europe and China would see any profit from it, and for coporate tax purposes those profits would remain offshore and untouchable. And for this we should continue giving them subsidies, right?  (Mar 5, 2012 | post #18)

I know exactly what my grandparents would say. They'd say "it's about time everybody learned to mind their own business and let people live their lives their own way in peace." But no, you want to legislate what everyone can and can't do. And THAT is what causes this complacency you fear so much: it is a child of your own making.  (Jan 29, 2012 | post #70)

So you're saying we only have a choice between middle-eastern rapists and the home-grown kind? I reject that entirely. How about some of that much-touted ingenuity that everyone claims America is famous for?  (Jan 29, 2012 | post #10)

You're right. life isn't fair, and you aren't equal, so get over it. If you disagree, you are in the minority so by your logic you have no say in the matter. Why don't you get a life instead of sticking your nose in where you have no stake, 'cause in reality allowing others to exercise their preferences takes nothing away from you.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #46)

Surprise surprise! We aren't paying middle-east countries for our oil, we are paying the multi-national oil companies like Exxon and BP. The majority of the price is from "Corporate people", not really related to the base cost of the crude we import. And even the crude is "speculated " on Wall Street to far above what the Saudis & co. ask for it. Besides, half of our oil is already here and being pumped out as fast as they can get it. Actually, I'd rather develop alternative energy sources rather than subsidizing Corporations that show record high profits quarter after quarter and year after year. Because the oil won't last "for all eternity", and we'd better have another means of energy production in place before it finally IS all gone.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #8)

Besides, your original premis is incorrect. Same-sex marriage is legal in 7 states.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #43)

Let me make it simple for you, so you understand. The only reason "no one has the right to marry a person of the same sex" is because people like you have restricted that right. You, as a so-called "normal" person, can marry whomever you choose (since your preference chooses the opposite sex), but a gay person cannot (since their preference chooses the same sex). It would be the same as if you were forced to choose only by a test of any other critera, be it race, religion, height, eye color or left/right handedness. Would you be upset if you were told you can't marry a particular person since they have the same eye color as you? Rediculous, unfair and vastly stupid rule, you say? Absolutely, and that's the point.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #42)

No, it's not "leaking out of the earth all over". If it did, we wouldn't need oil drilling rigs, oil pumps, etc. It has to be extracted, and in the case of the Canadian tar sands, it takes massive environmental stripping and an enormous quantity of processing with water (and the associated pollution that entails) just to get it into a liquid enough state to send it through a pipe line. Which is so toxic that it would cause chemical burns to your skin if you touched it. And corrodes metal piping from within, causing leaks into aquifers people need to survive. But let's not stand in the way of the board of Exxon-Mobil giving themselves billion-dollar bonuses.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #6)

Oooooh, you mean the whole world outside of yourself. That explains your extreme egocentricity. No, the constitution does not address marriage per se, but it does address the question of equality of rights among all people.  (Jan 25, 2012 | post #37)

oops my bad. a re-check shows the US has about 5% of world population, and about 8% for the rest of the West. Leaving 87% for the "East".  (Jan 25, 2012 | post #36)

Actually WPENN, check your facts before you speak. There's ony 95% that lives to the East of us. The US is 2%, Canada, Central and South America makes up another 5%. And just a few hundred years ago, 99% believed the Earth was the center of the Universe. That doesn't make it true or right. But that's all beside the point. Quite simply, allowing gay marriages does not force anyone to marry, nor prohibit anyone from marrying, the one they love ... while a prohibition most definitely takes that choice, that right, away from one group but not the other. Are we a free country, or is the Constitution all smoke and mirrors? That's the question you really have to ask.  (Jan 25, 2012 | post #34)

Yep that veto cost quite a few jobs. The several thousands who would build the pipeline, the doubling of worders in the refineries to process the tar-sands crude, the tens of thousands who would repair the many hundreds of pipeline leaks caused by the super-corrosive toxins it carries, the dozens of sailors who would transport it overseas (you didn't think it would stay here, did you? prices are much higher in europe and china), and the hundreds of thousands who would eventually be involved using taxpayer funds to try cleaning up the enviromental devastation from all those leaks.  (Jan 25, 2012 | post #3)
