Let's just face it... Some people would rather their son grow up to be a violent, gun-welding misogynist then a well-adjusted gay man. I am literally stunned by the movie rating system in this country, where it is OK to show someone being stabbed to death, but if you say the F-word or show someones breast, the movie is automatically an R-Rated film. And even then, if you go to an R-rated film, odds are you will see underaged kids there anyway (with and without their parents). UGH. Warren G is a moron. I hope he never has to live through the nightmare of one of his "gay" family or friends killing themselves BECAUSE of this hypocritical attitude about non-mainstream expressions of love... This type of "its cool, just keep it in the shadows" mentality is a cancer that spreads incredible amounts of psychological damage to everyone and in the end it is usually more about the adults not wanting to answer their children's questions, not out of any actual thoughts of protecting their kids.  (Sep 28, 2009 | post #10)

Amen, brother! Mormons take a perverse sense of pride from being "different " then the mainstream, but heaven help you if you are Mormon and are "different " from the Mormon mainstream. I've said it before, but I will happily say it again: Even if the LDS church decided to include gays in their ranks, I would feel the same way towards any homosexual that signs up as I do about any African Americans that joined after the church "decided " to include people of color back in the 70s - nothing but pity. The church may claim divine intervention in its decision to include racial (and eventually sexual) minorities, but it boils down to be handed table-scraps at the last supper. :)  (Sep 15, 2009 | post #7)

Dan Savage, Racism Has Its Rewards

The author of this posting is a nit-wit who completely missed the point of Savage's quote. He is talking about general numbers and not absolutes. The African-Americans who supported the GLBT community are many, but according to all reports that I have seen, the number of African-Americans who did not support the GLBT community was much higher. From what I have heard and read to equate our struggle for equal rights with the Civil Rights struggle of racial minorities in America is seen as insulting and degrading by many activists in the African-American community. To get down on Savage for merely pointing this out is a mark of the insecurity of the author of this article. Of course, as a priviledged white Gay man, I have to defend my peeps. Just because we are over something doesnt mean we cant make fun of "uneducated douches" who still do it. And my husband is a teacher in Jr. High School. "Gay" and "Fag" are still very popular put-downs. Have fun explaining the 13-year-old gay kid's attempted suicide to his parents while just outside the door, kids are using his difference as a pejorative. Huge surprise here. What are the odds that the nice police officers who did the arresting were also Mormon. Word to the wise - no Gay smotching on LDS property. As for the "just as any couple would be" I very much doubt that any of the 1000s of straight newly-wed couples that get their professionally-sho t wedding pictures taken in that plaza were ever approached by security.
