Why do you believe God exists?

Do not waste time trying to prove that God exists, just tell us why you BELIEVE he does exist. I believe that God exists, and one of the reasons that I do is because the order of the planets and the universe and life as we know it is too enormous and perfect to have happened on its own without any intelligent design.  (Oct 13, 2014 | post #1)

Clarksdale, MS

Clarksdale stiil dead as hell

Just found out the Mididi Restaurant is closed -- anyone know why? Was planning on going there on a visit to Clarksdale early next year. How are things going at the Ground Zero Blues Club? I thought Clarksdale was a good place to visit for blues.  (Oct 27, 2012 | post #2)

Amber B, it has been a pleasure. Although a bit rough, this discussion has firmly confirmed some things for me. Some here probably think I leave in defeat, but far from it. I will say no more as I am sure you know what I mean. Perhaps I will stop by again sometime in the future, for now I am heading to Mississippi (I can hear the laughter from here). I could use some southern hospitality about now (LOL). Goodbye and God bless.  (Mar 19, 2007 | post #4208)

Sekhmet, what I disagree with you most about is your belief that God's word is inaccurate about how the world came about. And, I do not dispute scientific fact. How do you reconcile the two? I do not know, but as a Christian along with what I believe about God, I cannot accept dismissing certain parts of the bible. However, what does this mean? “Wonderful fellow Mississippi Girl, what a blog! Let me read enough of your posts and by the very Spirit you claim to believe, God willing, i will tell you about yourself.” Why do you want to tell me about myself? It is as if everyone here is out for the personal kill. You are just looking for something to poke more fun of or twist into whatever meaning you want at the time. Back to your view about creation -- you say the bible’s version of the sixth day creation was written for freed Egyptian slaves and not us. I assume you are basing that on the scientific facts that have been reported about the earth’s age and so forth. In order to accept the scientific findings you have to discard the biblical account. I cannot do that. I know you will probably have lots of laughs, but that is OK. For me, there has to be an explanation that we do not know about. I must hold to biblical teachings that there are some things that are beyond our understanding. And it is not just this creation issue, others here have said there is no Noah’s Ark and the flood didn’t happen. I suppose you all say there is no Jesus and no resurrection either, right? Well, I see why it’s so easy for you to dismiss the bible. I, ME, do not dismiss the bible. No matter how much I learn about the world around me, I will never think that I am so big that I do not need God, or worse that God does not exist. This is MY view. You have every right to your view. I do not need to study science to know that there is a God. I base my view on my spiritual knowledge of God and the word of the bible, which I believe is inspired by God and is His Word. I cannot discard portions of the bible and still call myself a Christian. Any scriptures that I posted here apply to myself as well. They were offered to enlighten, not for contempt. I have to live by those scriptures as well. I never claimed to be without sin. Someone even criticized me for being shocked over a post about doing away with religion and faith! I WAS shocked. It is as with anything else – it’s one thing to know and talk about a thing from afar, but quite another when it’s up close and in your face. Some of you make too many assumptions for people that are supposed to be factual. I do not believe I have unfairly attacked anyone here – if I have, I sincerely apologize. But I feel very much attacked unfairly. I do admit that I did not read all of the posts before commenting, and for that I do apologize. However, I have responded to some of the nasty remarks and I do not retract anything. Some of the remarks I will not trouble myself to answer, including the ones indicating that I do not know the meaning of certain words. Believe me, I could say some very nasty things to some of you as well, but what would that accomplish? You will still have your view and I will still have mine. Or should I say, you will still have your scientific facts and I will still have my spiritual beliefs. I am going to leave this thread now (please, no cheering). Although it seems that I have irritated most of you, I really do appreciate all of your comments. I believe I have learned some important things.  (Mar 19, 2007 | post #4188)

Do not bother to tell me about myself, instead, look in the mirror and figure out who you are. Get the beam out of your own eye first. Your assumption that I do not read the bible, but instead listen only to southern preachers tells me how narrow-minded and mean-spirited you are. For all of your so-called knowledge, you know nothing about me. I will leave you 21st century people to your 21st century God. As for me, the God that I serve is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  (Mar 18, 2007 | post #4130)

As a Christian, I cannot discount any part of the Bible. You say the sixth day creation did not occur as it says in the Bible -- but as some have speculated, how do you know that God measures time as we do? And, as Amber B says, God is the originator of all knowledge. I also believe that the Bible is a collection of books inspired by the Spirit of God, therefore, I cannot accept that He would inspire something false. Yes, I know, the Bible has been translated by men, men who can make errors or tell tales. Yet, I believe. Believing is all I have to do. I do not have to know every detail of how God created the universe. I am just in awe of it all. And, although you think otherwise, I have nothing against those who explore these things. God gave man the ability to do extraordinary things, so why would I be against such? I do think it is foolish for man to think he is above God, or that God doesn't exist at all. But of course, that is just my opinion, and you know how opinions go. I am really surprised at you intelligent people. You have guessed nothing correctly about me -- except that I am from Mississippi. And I wonder, how did you guess that? Oh my goodness, now I'm a pro blogger, experienced at evolution debates. Am I that good? Please, don't pump me up any more! I am sorry, but I just cannot help it. That is so far from the truth until it is absolutely hilarious to me. Because I said I could not rely on scientists regarding the creation of the universe, you say I am a hater of science. You cannot deny that we are told that something is good or bad for us today and later on we're told the opposite. But I do not hate science because of this. I admit that I do not keep up with everything that is going on, that is why I asked for your proof. I had heard about the Big Bang some time ago, I thought perhaps something new had come about. My belief was not changed when I first heard about it and my belief remains intact. If that classifies me as ignorant in your eyes, so be it. I am checking out of here. This has been an interesting and enlightening exchange. I had no idea some people have the opinions that they do. Especially the gentleman that thinks faith and religion should be abandoned in lieu of knowledge in order to improve our lives. Perhaps others of you here feel the same way, but I found that shocking. As a Christian, the scriptures I posted here were done out of love, not judgment and contempt. Some here see nothing wrong with spewing nasty remarks intended to degrade and put down. You know what they say about people who belittle others, don't you?  (Mar 18, 2007 | post #4125)

I see that I was thoroughly trashed while I was away. If your mean spirit is an indication of being highly educated and up-to-date on science, then I’m all the more glad I am who I am. Really, trashing the state where I’m from? Ignorant? Please, please. I came to this forum trying to understand why you have the stance you do about the creation. Have I condemned you for your belief? I asked for proof and what you gave me did not prove your stance, in my opinion. Do I have proof of my stance? No. I never claimed to. My only proof is the Word of God, which I believe. As I see it, we are even. I believe what I believe, and you believe what you believe. But you have said nothing here to make me entertain the thought that what I believe is wrong. You seem to think that I have something against science. Did I ever say that here? What I have said is that science has not proven to me that the bible is false where creation is concerned. I have not called you ignorant for believing what you believe, but you have constantly done so to me. I did not come here to prove that your thinking is wrong. I came here to see why “Intelligent design supporters get SPANKED”. I decided to share my thinking and a bit of the Word of God. I have nothing against science so stop indicating that I do. Why are you intelligent people resorting to name calling because someone else has a different opinion from yours? Your opinion of everyone from Mississippi tells me how narrow minded you are. I have never said science sucks. Yet, you say Mississippians are this and that. And your confirmation of how Mississippians are is based on my belief in the bible?. Please.  (Mar 17, 2007 | post #4044)

I could not resist coming back because I went back to fully explore those links supplied to me about the "Age Of The Universe". And what do I discover? It is all a THEORY!!!!!! The Big Bang theory to be exact. Again, what makes your theory superior to what's in the bible? Truly, good night folks. Maybe in a day or so.  (Mar 16, 2007 | post #4023)
