Gloom and Doom - well named. You are not quite as accurate or correct as you seem to think you are. I applaud a politician who looks at all the arguments, all the research and then can CHANGE with information as it is available - not blindly follow one path - which is what you seem to be doing  (Aug 2, 2008 | post #2)

D.C. madam apologizes in suicide notes released by police

"only to come out of prison in my late '50s a broken, penniless and very much alone woman," I'm not buying it! That is way tooooo dramatic and probably untrue...there would be book deals, talk show circuits....and she seems to have had a loving and supportive family. Not to mention that she may have gotten a much lighter sentence and gone to a nice "Martha Stewart" prison. No, this one really smells rotten!  (May 5, 2008 | post #50)

Up and up: What you can do about fuel costs

How are we going to start explaining to our bosses that we can't come to work because we can't afford the gas? This is ridiculous. I am taking a part time job so I can pay for the gas for my full time job. And in the meantime, grocery prices are soaring right along with the oil. I don't hear anything voices in Congress shouting "foul", do you??  (Apr 24, 2008 | post #8)

Sergeant who sued family after slipping loses job appeal

She is pretty low in my book - but as a legal professional, the attorney who actually thought there was MERIT in bringing a lawsuit is even lower (if, in fact, she had an attorney). No lawyer I know would touch that case - most would kick her out of their offices. Wonder how she will like her new job as security at K-Mart? If she could even work there!  (Feb 12, 2008 | post #6)

Shame on you SeaWorld! Trying to save those profits by requiring people to work in the dark - and then pointing fingers of blame at them??!! Tis is not the land of Theme Parks - it's the land of GREED Parks!  (Dec 8, 2007 | post #36)

Marie is a favorite personality for many...but not a dancer in the same league as Helio or Mel B. Mel B is a great show....but nothing has really shown growing or improvement from pt A to pt B... Helio is terrific. Never danced, never performed before a live audience....he's the winner. If people do not like the fact that fans have a say in the winner, would you enjoy the show more if only the judges scored and they did away with the call in vote for good?  (Nov 25, 2007 | post #3)

Hotel-shower injury spurs suit

Wow...looks like most of you were just waiting to spew! Seriously, this doesn't sound frivolous to me. Imagine minding your own business in a shower and having the frickin ceiling fall down on you? Come on people! It was not POOL water above, but a pool of water that had accumulated. Another piece of negligent evidence. It also stated he suffered neck and back injuries. This would keep you off a job no matter what you did for a living. So, come on folks, this one sounds legit to me and I hope he prevails.  (Oct 13, 2007 | post #12)

No Segways, parks tell disabled

This is a toughy. Disney and Sea World have the right to do whatever they wish. I am not keen on banning people's choice of personal manuverability, however, I have witnessed first-hand how most all of these motorized devices can be dangerous to others - especially in the crowded theme park locales. I am a former cast member who has been nearly run over many times by people who rent the electric scooters and chairs - never having used one before. Lots of people rent them for many reasons, lazy or just wanting to take advantage of the "wheel chair access" lines that get you one the rides faster. Remember, too, that people get "dumb-struck " at Disney....so engrossed in getting to the next attraction that they act like no one else is around. On the other hand, most of my bumps and bruises came from over-eager parents who use their strollers like battering rams through crowds. AT least the Segways are more visible and you have a better chance of steering clear of them while walking around. It's a toughy, but I'd have to say Disney and Sea World are right on this one. Now ban the electric devices and reprimand the "evil stroller" crowd and you'd have a nicer and safer experience for everyone.  (Oct 13, 2007 | post #16)

Story of brain damaged child gets national attention

I do hope all of this noterity brings donations and medical care for the little boy. What a tragedy...and then to be slapped with such a mean-spirited lawsuit. She received free medical care through her insurance and was paid her regular paycheck. Get over it! You are not ENTITLED to a dine more, and certainly not from this family!! Please take note of her attorney's name and stay clear!  (Oct 10, 2007 | post #9)

Critics sure to find Epcot's decision on sign wand-erful ...

I agree....the wand is a distraction to the whole EPCOT concept. Now, please, stop with the tacky globe during Illuminations - the old show - which showcased each of the nation's - was far better and more entertaining. Watching that rusty old globe with it's hard-to-see movies is lame. And I agree - the Sorcerer's Hat at the Studios has got to go, too! While Walt always reminded everyone that it all started with a Mouse, I don't think he wanted to hit us over the head with it at every turn!  (Jul 6, 2007 | post #3)

Disney after dark -- OrlandoSentinel.com

Actually, as an employee of a Downtown Disney shop (not a Disny shop) I have to let you know you are wrong about the control aspect. Only those who were INVITED by Disney can have a store or venue there. But it doesn't end with that. You must provide Disney - in advance - of all material you will be selling/showing/us ing, including country of origin, and the same for any manufacturers of products you sell. Complete disclosure in advance with only prior DISNEY APPROVAL. Disney takes - in addition to rent - 20% of all sales. If a sale is made using a Guest Resort charge card, the shops never see the money - Disney takes those "against future rent payments". In return, we shops/restaurants/ venues get some of the highest traffic counts of any area. Please don't feel badly for Disney in this matter. They know exactly what they are doing and will continue to do exactly as they please.  (Jul 1, 2007 | post #60)

Disney after dark -- OrlandoSentinel.com

Clearly, Disney is living in a "you made it, now lie in it" type of situation. It is obvious to anyone that Disney wants Downtown Disney to attract only the money spending tourists. But on the other hand, they offer free admission, flowing alcohol with no limits other than the standard 21-year age law, and venues designed to attract young, urban patrons. Where else can you stroll around, with drinks in hand, in and out of pricey shops without any regard to how obnoxious you may be? You can't say a certain type of behavior is OK for one group and not another. I love the House of Blues, but have always scratched my head at seeing it in Disney....like oil and water. Ditto the Discos and Dance Clubs....what was Disney thinking, or could they think beyond the dollar signs?? If there was ever an occasion for poor old Walt to roll over in his grave - surely it was the entire downtown Disney concept.(read "we are in it for the $$$). He must have made it all the way to China by now!  (Jul 1, 2007 | post #31)
