Empathy in law

So justice should not be blind is the message? If a judge feels empathy toward one race or the other, then that is " looking at the whole picture and arriving at a fair and "equitable " result"? That is what Sotomayor did in the fireman's case. That is justice?  (Jun 13, 2009 | post #1)

Rush is why

Is that the best you can do? Half truths and non-truths? No facts or reasoning to make a cogent point? Just ad hominem attacks? Sounds like a bad case of "hate" speech.  (May 24, 2009 | post #88)

Make us all one city

Merging for the sake of merging is not a plan. Advantages of doing so are not obvious. Companies migrate to states and cities that keep taxes low. The less government the better and the more local the government is the better.  (May 23, 2009 | post #15)

Torture has place

Agree. Everyone in our society agrees that Torture is inhuman, lawless behavior and cannot be excused. But the question is: Is Waterboarding Torture? Many of our own troops go through a SERE course where they themselves are waterboarded. The troops know it can be stopped at any time. But now, thanks to Obama, our enemies also know that they also are in no danger of being killed by waterboarding, and they can train for it. The call for prosecutions is nothing more than Democrat politics intended to personally destroy anyone associated with the issue so they will not run for office. i.e. Condoleeza Rice. And the Dems wish to paint themselves as having the moral high gound on this issue--which they do not because they would rather risk having a city blown up by terrorist so that they can score political points.  (May 10, 2009 | post #9)

Torture has place

Let's see. Bush reacts to the financial crisis created by Democrats with TARP 1 and that called the "financial weapons of Mass Destruction". Then Obama doubles down doing the same thing and also signs a budget with a deficit larger than all deficits from all previous presidents combined. And this is considered to be good and is supposed to fix the problem? And this is the "Change" you dimwits voted for? I think most people want the opposite of what Bush and Obama did.  (May 10, 2009 | post #8)

NAACP to discuss racial complaints

Now that the President is a person of Color, isn't it time for the NAACP to fold it's tent and declare victory?  (May 9, 2009 | post #12)

Torture affects us

The author dances around the main question which is, What is Torture. Instead, the author assumes a moral high ground as if the use of all aggressive interrogation tactics, including waterboarding, turn us into being the evil doers. Many say waterboarding is torture and will not be disuaded even though we use waterboarding tactics on own special ops troops during training. Yes it is an extremely difficult question to determine when aggressive interrogation ends and torture begins. However, assuming that all tactics are equally bad and are considered to be torture is mindless. The reason this topic is in the news is purely political. The Dems want to personally attack political opponents who had anything to do with waterboarding which was used successfully to prevent terrorist attacks. By destroying them personally they will not attempt to run against Democrats for public office. i.e. Condoleeza Rice. And it makes Dems appear to have the moral high ground, which they do not--they would rather risk having a city blown up by terrorists so that they can gain politically.  (May 9, 2009 | post #3)

Nation's treasures

I think the author is speaking more about how we individually care for the elderly rather than how society and the government expresses its care for the elderly. At least I hope that is the point. The government has cared so much that Social Security and Medicare are going bankrupt and the younger generations are stuck with the bill. As far as individual caring for the elderly goes I agree with the author that our enthusiasm wanes. We would rather spend time doing other things. But it is worth the investment of time to express our love for the elderly whether they be related or not. Volunteering in church and other programs to assist and befriend the elderly is very gratifying.  (May 9, 2009 | post #3)

Environmental debt

The writer says: "Clean energy will help end our dependence on dirty fossil fuels". Nice slogan but total horse squeeze. There is no "clean" energy technology that is efficient and cheap to replace what we use now. Some facts: Solar = 30 cents per kwh Wind = 21.97 cents per kwh Gas and oil = 12.28 cents per kwh Coal = 11.4 cents per kwh Nuclear = 11.06 cents per kwh Hydro = 7.60 cents per kwh Yet the Dems oppose everything but Solar and Wind, both of which are not environmentally friendly given the amount of land required to produce significant quantities if energy.  (Apr 25, 2009 | post #7)

Don't excuse CIA agents

The writer says "Torturing is inhuman, lawless behavior and cannot be excused." Everyone in our society agrees with this. But that is Not the question. The question is: Is Waterboarding Torture? Many of our own troops go through a SERE course where they themselves are waterboarded. It produces no permanent damage to the body. It does produce the panic of drowning. Many legal opinions were solicited before waterboarding was used in order to stay within the law. Congress was fully briefed on it, including Nancy Pelosi. It was used successfully to obtain information from terrorists that saved lives, but Obama conveniently does not wish to declassify this portion of the information. The call for prosecutions is nothing more than a political witch hunt aimed at those who protected us for years. Instead, they should give these people medals.  (Apr 25, 2009 | post #2)

Lose the clunkers

Yes. Horrible and ignorant. People will make the decision on buying a car based on economics and not on factors like greenhouse gasses. Global warming is junk science and just a smokescreen for promoting a world-government culture and taxation. An article today pictures the global warming computer model predictions versus actual temperature measurments in recent years. Guess what? The models are exposed to be increasingly wrong. Computer models are the only "science " the global warming crowd has. See: http://wattsupwith that.com/2009/04/1 5/climate-models-v s-climate-reality- diverging-or-just- a-dip/.  (Apr 16, 2009 | post #10)

Let's restore our right to free speech

Leftists attack free speach incrementally. A little bit at a time so no one gets upset. Today our right to free political speech is restricted by McCain-Feingold. Down the political elite will limit what can be preached in churches. And finally the speech Nazis will enforce who and what can be spoken in public. I hope the Supreme Court stops this nonsense now.  (Apr 11, 2009 | post #3)
