Illegal Immigration

Should immigrants in the United States of America have to learn Eng...

Here is my best argument in favor of "The Way Things Used To Be" or rather "Traditional Americanism". I have had it. Every immigrant that has ever came to this country was told the rules of joining it and becoming a part of this great nation. Rule #1: You choose to live here and you are EXPECTED to learn the English language, and have it become your sole language. Not hold on to your other language that will not be taught in our public schools. If that were the case we would have a curriculum of confusion and great expense that teaches German, French, Spanish, Portugese, and many other languages. Our forefathers knew that our country would be better united by having only one national language, not a bunch of "regions " with their own language, say like Quebec. It was decided early in America's history that our national language would be English. German was the close second in the race for our national language. It lost and we decided to not keep and teach any part of the German language, it had lost the battle for being part of our nation's taught language as we wanted to have only ONE national language. Now I shall get to my point: We defeated Mexico in war, and had Federal troops in Mexico City when their country surrendered. President Polk almost had Mexico annexed, but was thwarted by a negotiator (Ironically by the negotiator for our side). Now in our day and age, these remnants of the Hispanics that remained on our side apparently didn't get the American memo about learning English. With the severe influx of Hispanic's and Latino's into our southern states (sorry don't know if there is a difference in these 2 words so I used them both for complete coverage), like Bill O'Reilly said a few years ago, we are in danger of LOSING the entire southwest of The United States. There exists no document from wars with Mexico that exempted these American Hispanics from the American rule of taking on the English language and leaving their other language behind. For me, knowing my family's story of German descent and the struggles they had to overcome when they came here, having to give up their language, this Hispanic/Latino question leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. All Americans who have ancestry that gave up their languages for English should be greatly offended that these peoples think they are above the rules of our great nation. To me, the root of this problem seems to be the Hispanic American's unwillingness to give up the Spanish language. Do they really expect the other 90% of Americans in The United States to teach their children to learn a language other than English? Could you think of the expense that would cost taxpayers? Like no other immigrant group before, this Latino/Hispanic group has "separated " themselves from becoming truly part of the American melting pot by continuing (as no other immigrant population has done) and kept their "other" language. What is the Hispanic/Latino option they present? They say things like, "They didn't move, the border moved". Now our country has another name besides "America " or "The United States", the new name is "The Estados Unidos" PHOOEY! Why don't we call it the German equivalent for our German peoples? "Die Vereinigten Staaten" Why don't we call it the French equivalent? "Les États-Unis" BECAUSE THE AMERICAN NATIONAL LANGUAGE IS ENGLISH. It's time they started acting like an oppressed people who were against Santa Anna's exploitative rule that joined us and rose up against him, and less like a people that we (The United States) "conquered ". I can't believe after 150 years they have not gotten the memo.  (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #56)

Should immigrants in the United States of America have to learn Eng...

Yeah, if we continue on the "Policy" that these Spanish speaking immigrants demand, we will be nothing but a nation divided into regions of different speaking tongues, and that is not what was laid out by our forefathers.  (Monday Nov 16 | post #53)

Cannabis Cafe opens in Portland

About time Portlanders have this. Perhaps the incarceration/death legacy of penile idiocy in regards to the social misunderstanding and fear about marijuana is about to fall? We can only hope.  (Monday Nov 16 | post #1)

Support Lou Dobbs! Does he mirror what you think about America?

80% in this poll as of the date of this post. On a small scale, seems Traditional America still exists.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #5)

Election results may boost immigration reform efforts in Congress

Rep. Luis Gutierrez, Ill.-D This is one of the names from the article. His name, I'll bet he classifies himself as a Hispanic/Latino. Their idea of immigration reform is opening the doors further. This is flat treason! The old ways of American immigration policy aren't that far gone folks, the government just needs to be reminded about it. I intend to beat this subject into the ground UNTIL immigration policy is corrected. No way the WWII generation of Americans would have stood for this kind of treason. Here's what we get when we don't follow the immigration guidelines recommended by Thomas Jefferson: Immigration Policy "The first consideration in immigration is the welfare of the receiving nation. In a new government based on principles unfamiliar to the rest of the world and resting on the sentiments of the people themselves, the influx of a large number of new immigrants unaccustomed to the government of a free society could be detrimental to that society. Immigration, therefore, must be approached carefully and cautiously." http://etext.virgi nia.edu/jefferson/ quotations/jeff128 0.htm Come vote in my polls! Never needed a bill or an amendment, in my upbringing here in these United States I was taught English, nothing else. For me, it is my native tongue, native to America.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #1)

Obama to Legalize Millions of Illegal Immigrants

If amnesty is going to be granted, these people should be able to show a working knowledge of the English language. After all, it is our nations tongue. We are an English speaking nation. Should immigrants in the United States of America have to learn Eng...

I'm just saying, was not everyone who was educated here in America taught how we all became its citizens? I know I was told by one aunt the stories her great-grandmother told her about coming west on covered wagons when she was very little. How about Ellis island? How about every Italian family who had a grandmother or grandfather who spoke only Italian? How hard it was for their them and their family to come to this nation that only spoke English? All of us whose families made those sacrifices, and sent their sons to this nations wars, we should be greatly offended by this terrible policy on the current immigration.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #50)

RED ALERT -- La Raza: "If the American people found out..."

Typical degradation of every thread where people have not an ability to come to any kind of rational argument. Everyone being put on the defense by each other. So here folks, here is some truth. Immigrants who are not our citizens and whose ancestors did not pay the price as ours did to become Americans and helped build this great nation, THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO COME HERE AND BEG FOR HELP. Why cannot the nations they are from pull their head out and take care of these peoples? Like we did with ours? Because they are inhumane. Now they are calling us just another Spanish speaking country! They think they don't have to follow the Traditional rules and make the sacrifices all of our previous American families made! Come vote in my polls! Landscaping company fined for alleged violations of the state I...

We're behind you South Carolina!!!!! CLOSE THE BORDERS NOW, AND DEPORT ALL ILLEGALS. (BTW, I was never an illegal alien) The time has come for all English speaking Americans to stand up! Start calling yourselves Traditional Americans! You and your ancestors followed this nations rules to become citizens here, does that mean anything to you? Do you want to hand this legacy to a people who do not wish to follow the old American rules on immigration? People who are now challenging our national language? Telling us we never had one? We are having our leg pulled. We are being hoodwinked. Having the wool pulled over our eyes. Thomas Jefferson on Immigration Policy "The first consideration in immigration is the welfare of the receiving nation. In a new government based on principles unfamiliar to the rest of the world and resting on the sentiments of the people themselves, the influx of a large number of new immigrants unaccustomed to the government of a free society could be detrimental to that society. Immigration, therefore, must be approached carefully and cautiously." (http://etext.virg inia.edu/jefferson /quotations/jeff12 80.htm) Go ahead. Tell me how Jefferson was a slaver, and I'll tell you who sold this nation the slaves, the Portugese and the Spanish. Might we have a case here of multi-generational planning? The more and more this immigration of spanish speaking peoples comes to undermine this nation, the more and more I think that this is true.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #4)

California

Mexico's Take Over Of California: Complete By 2014?

How does one come to believe the way one does? Conditioning. This whole mess has just made me realize something. Spanierds and anyone who calls themselves Hispanic/Latino, I'm starting to think they have learned a lesson from a certain holy people. Calling yourselves a "special " word that differentiates you and your family from the countries that you move to. Sets you apart from the rest of its nations citizens. Carefully chosen words that somehow are politically correct as they do not put you as a member or citizen of another nation, you are just someone from a certain part of the world. And you deserve special consideration. Truth: Spain did explore most of the New World. Did they take over North America? Part of, yes they did. At one point from northern California to the Gulf of Mexico, much land was owned by Mexico. Then a dictatorship ruined that country. It's people joined those from our country and fought against Santa Anna, and won their freedom. They were given a choice, stay on this side of the border and become Americans, or proclaim their desire to remain Mexican nationals. I just had a thought. I wonder how important it is in Spanish and Portugese speaking nations for the words Hispanic and Latino to be used? I'll bet these words only get pulled out when being used in other languages, say English. Traditional Americans do not call themselves anything but Americans. These people need to stop "SEPARATING " themselves with these words Hispanic/Latino. America's immigration policy always has been and always will be that you move here, learn the language of the land (English) give up your former nations tongue, and become an American.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #23056)
