Found dog in Forest Hill

I found a dog in my driveway this morning. He either slipped his collar or someone threw him out. He looks to be part pit or is a full pit. He is not docked or anything like a pit. He is friendly. If you lost a dog in Forest Hill, let me know on this post. And I mean the 4 legged kind of dog...The dog catcher is supposed to come pick him up sometime today...if he doesn't get run over first.  (Jan 19, 2014 | post #1)

the kids skating at mikes

I work nights and I see them there...well, not here lately. I never had a problem with them being there. They do some really cool tricks. And I have been through there when the Monroe Deputies and WV State Troopers have been sitting across the street. If they aren't bothering anything, why say anything? Dudes, skate on and ignore nosy people! from the lady in the Orange SUV.  (Sep 18, 2013 | post #17)

Who were the 1006 democrats stupid enough to vote for Whe...

No as a matter of fact no one in my family has EVER been arrested or charged with anything. The only laws we have ever broken is going about 5 mph over the speed limit. I happen to know Dolphin personally. I based my opinion on what I have observed with my own eyes and heard with my own ears from his mouth. I don't listen to gossip and I resent the fact that you seem to be on a witch hunt against everyone who disagrees with you about the man. I certainly do not appreciate you insinuating that my family or I are crooks. You don't know me or my family.  (May 16, 2012 | post #87)

I voted for Wheeler. And for your information, I am NOT a Democrat. And to the person that posted the comment "75% of the votes Wheeler got were from drug dependent addicts" I'd like to know where your got your information. Was there a questionnaire passed around at the polls that I missed? Where is your proof? I voted for Wheeler this go 'round and will vote for him again come November. You can vote for whomever you wish. No one is holding a gun to your head to vote for their choice of candidate. Last time I checked this was still the United States of America, Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. Every one on here has the freedom to choose who they want in office. Calling each other names is not helping anyone.  (May 12, 2012 | post #52)

Drugs & public assistance don't mix no more

As someone who has HAD to sign up for welfare in their life, I don't have a problem being drug tested. I am not receiving any benefits now, thank God, but at one time or another I lost my job and had no way to pay the bills or feed my 2 children. All the court would do to their father was take his drivers license away for non payment of child support so no help there. However, everyday I was without work, I went out and busted my butt to FIND work. I didn't sit home and wait for a handout. I don't do drugs or drink alcohol. There are some people out there who truly need the benefits at one point or another in their life. I believe those that oppose the drug testing have something to hide. I had to take a drug test to get my current job and I did so willingly because I know I have nothing in my system that is illegal. If welfare recipients have nothing illegal in their system, they should not have a problem being drug tested. If, God forbid, I lost my job today and had to go back on welfare for a little while till I got another job, I would not have a problem being tested. That being said: Where is the outpouring of help from the churches in the communities? The churches in my area seem to only be interested in helping those overseas. There are a lot more children in Summers county that need more immediate help than sending help overseas. As someone once said: Clean up your own backyard before cleaning someone else's. That is true in every aspect of this topic.  (Apr 19, 2012 | post #39)

Bus #44

Not all buses in the state have cameras. The bus my daughter rides does not at this time. Monroe county (yes I know you are talking about Summers..I live in Summers so yes, I can post about it) is in the process of putting cameras in the buses. Yes, you should have just called the school garage and talked to them before posting on Topix. Glad the driver was cleared. No, a parent cannot confront a bus driver on the bus. A parent cannot even step one foot on the bus to get their child or talk to their child. It is trespassing and if you are trying to confront the driver, can be considered harassment, intimidation, or assault depending on what you do upon stepping in the bus. I know a parent that learned this the hard way. If anyone has a problem with a bus driver or anyone else in the school system, contact the Board of Education & they can direct you to the correct person. That is the route I followed. However, I decided afterward to remove my child from Summers schools. And believe me, he is much happier.  (Apr 19, 2012 | post #23)

A really sad place

I believe after the first break-in, I would have had a gun available. I have one for protection and my children know not to touch it unless someone is breaking in the house. Also, if the Hinton police did nothing, I would have gone further. I would have contacted the State Police and the Hinton newspaper, the Beckley newspaper, and the Bluefield newspaper. Also whatever tv stations service the Hinton area. It sounds like the police department needs to be investigated if they are not doing their job. And with the number of break-ins at your home, it sounds like they weren't. Hope things get better for you.  (Apr 19, 2012 | post #16)

we nd police in peterstown

I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen the Monroe sheriff's deputies in Ballard or past Ballard. I drive Route 12 every day. The last time I saw any law in or around Ballard was back in the winter when the dude was running from the law and they found him on Adair Ridge road. (I believe that is the name of the road). I have called 911 on a lot of drunk drivers on Route 12 and have YET to see or hear of one of them being pulled over. So, no, the Sheriff's deputies do not stay in or around Ballard. They must stay in Union because everytime I talk to the dispatcher, she says there is no one near Route 12. I do agree though, that Peterstown needs a police force. Either that, or the State Police need to start patrolling.  (Apr 19, 2012 | post #9)

McBrides store in Ballard

Janeen is my cousin and I do not for one second believe what has been said about her and Richard. I stand behind her 100%. I hope Richard's wife fully recovers. It's a shame people believe the mess that gets posted on here. Topix should just shut the Peterstown site down.  (Apr 22, 2010 | post #40)

McBrides store in Ballard

My advice to Janeen and Richard is to contact Topix and the FBI Computer crime task force and trace the posts back to the users. And yes, it can be done. The bad thing about a small town is you piss someone off and they decide they will get you back by slandering your name all over the internet. Oh, btw...If Janeen and/or Richard decide to do what I suggested above, they would have one hell of a lawsuit they could file against that person. And yes, the person that posted that crap CAN be held accountable for what happened with Richard's wife.  (Apr 22, 2010 | post #38)

Josh Shrewsbury

If it is the Josh Shrewsbury who's dad drives the school bus, he's a good guy. He has a good sense of humor and always says Hi whenever he sees me.  (Feb 16, 2010 | post #3)

Living in WV

I moved here from Fayetteville, NC in 2004. It was a big adjustment BUT I got used to it because I love living here. The pace of life is more laid back than Fayetteville. When I lived in NC, I had road rage so bad, I cussed everyone out when I drove. After being up here for several months, I got behind an elderly man driving 45 down Rt 12. I was behind him for several miles before it hit me that I wasn't p.o.ed at him for going 10 below the speed limit. I was actually content staying behind him and looking at the scenery. Do I have friends like the ones I left in NC? No. But I have made friends here. I have a great job I love and even though this winter has been hard, I'm actually enjoying it. We hardly ever got snow in Fayetteville. My advice is to just hang in there. Unless you were someone that really partied it up down in NC, you will get used to the laid back atmosphere here in WV. I'm just happy to be out of the rat race.  (Feb 16, 2010 | post #17)
