Camp letter to BOE

While the above letter raises some legitimate concerns, it is not mine. It isn't my style of writing, and I would sign any such letter with my name. I don't believe Coach Price would knowingly do anything illegal, but I also am all about transparency and openness, so I don't see any harm in the Board of Education putting this information out there so we can hopefully put this thing to rest once and for all and clear the names of those mentioned and fix any problems that may or may not exist. (I remember reading some concerns about this camp this time last year.) Side note-- though I never played for him, I do have some bias as Coach Price is the reason I even like sports as he asked me in his middle school math class to help with the middle school football team.  (Apr 13, 2012 | post #30)

Water Bills

I've heard several complaints of people whose water reading on their utility bill doesn't match the reading on their meter. Something isn't right. Now I see these posts. City Hall needs to fix this problem immediately so the people can actually have confidence that they aren't being robbed blind with their utility bills. Furthermore, if we can't be sure our government is collecting the right of money, how can we be sure they're spending the right amount of money? Do they even know what's going on? This is out of control.  (Mar 9, 2012 | post #52)

Impromptu citizen led Town Meeting tonite at 7 pm at Fire...

I thought the story was funny. Candidates are public figures, so they have to know that being teased comes with the territory and should get a sense of humor.  (Mar 2, 2012 | post #17)

ballot box

City ballots are programmed via the County Clerk's office on their machines, and placed at polling places manned with their staff. I've been a poll worker and know how the process works; I see how the votes are counted. Obviously, I can't be a poll worker this time. I have no doubts about the integrity of voting in this county; the City has nothing to do with any part of it.  (Mar 2, 2012 | post #4)

Jordan Sturm and derack dalach

I guess I'm not up on the lingo, because "flashed " means something completely different to me. Suppose they are "flashed " in the way you're implying; what good are you doing yourself or anybody else by saying this? If these are your friends, there are much better ways to help them. I've been there. You're not doing anybody any favors, especially when you can't even spell someone's name right. If they're not your friends, why does it matter?  (Feb 27, 2012 | post #2)

Who is running for council?

Just to be clear, the folks you are referring to encouraged me to run for Council, not Mayor. I'm not running to save anyone's job or fire anyone from a job. If those are decisions I make in the process of doing my job, so be it. Before I can form an opinion on anyone's job performance, I need to be in the position of leadership so I can evaluate how they respond to me. From the outside looking in, there might be a person that someone on the street would want to get rid of. But maybe said person is living up to the expectations leadership is giving them; perhaps it is the expectations of leadership that are the problem. Who is to say that the person wouldn't meet new expectations that were higher or more clearly defined? Perhaps they would; perhaps they wouldn't. But everyone deserves the opportunity to prove themselves under new leadership before I could ever make a decision on their employment-- and that decision would involve more input than just my own.  (Feb 20, 2012 | post #124)

Ihle's petition drive to cost $$$$$$$$$$

We had more people wanting to sign than I knew what to do with. But there wasn't sufficient time to go back to all these people with the new information and explain it to them again, and confirm that they still wanted their signatures to remain on. I'm sure most would. But some might not, and that is why the decision was made.  (Feb 17, 2012 | post #12)

Set up a Mayor's debate

I'm in favor of it. Both of us owe it to the people of this town to make sure they have every opportunity to make an informed choice.  (Feb 14, 2012 | post #43)

Not true. You have a selective memory.  (Feb 2, 2012 | post #84)

What are some changes you want done in Ravenswood to bett...

You're simply incorrect. Whether or not a race is partisan has nothing to do with additional requirements for running for an office. The WV Supreme Court has ruled that most requirements for any office beyond residency are unconstitutional. Exceptions include law degrees for some judicial positions. The requirements you're referring to, that are in our charter, are unconstitutional and outdated. They're proof that our charter is in serious need of reform. (And for the record, I have W-2's, thank you.) In my opinion, the only "special interest backers" are those who have an interest in seeing a change of direction in City Hall. If someone wants to question me and my ability to be fair because of my father, that's a fair question, but it's also one that has an answer. Just look at my record. An opponent that earned more votes than me last election deserved to be placed on Council. I didn't even know him at that time. I spoke to Council about it. I wrote a letter to the newspaper, which was printed. And remember: this didn't involve a relative of mine. It involved me. And I took the side of someone other than me, because he was more deserving. So to anyone who doubts my fairness, look at that. Case closed.  (Feb 1, 2012 | post #44)

Who is running for council?

Those aren't "facts." Those are the misrepresentations and assumptions you make. I'm not anybody's puppet. I have a passion for what I do, and I did it for the right reasons. None of those people made me do anything. I asked everyone I knew, just to see what they'd say. That's what any intelligent, thoughtful person does-- get all the information before making an informed decision. Is this right for me? What are my chances? Etc, etc. You're one of those people that was going to have a problem with me no matter what I did, so I won't waste a bunch of time arguing with you about it.  (Feb 1, 2012 | post #55)

Who is running for council?

I'll post this in two places. Thanks, everyone, for your support. If you want to know what you can do to help me, contact me personally, and I'll let you know. I have some friends, as has been mentioned, that work at Gary's. I visit them from time to time when business is slow and I am free. The crowd down there encouraged me to run for Council. I'll let you decide who that is. Reading between the lines, I don't think they are happy at all about my candidacy for Mayor. If that's so, that's their loss. I'm not loyal to any people; I'm loyal to my principles. But I'm also not out to get anybody; I'm out to get it right. If people believe in those principles, they'll be with me, and I'll welcome them, no matter who they are. But if not, then they can go blow in the direction of the wind. No matter what decision I made, it was going to make some unhappy, because people were advising me to run for every office. I think some people in town-- and I won't say who they are-- offered me backing for Council in order to make me feel like I had an "easy win" in that race, so I would be discouraged from running for something else. But nothing worth having ever comes easily. Most of the people I trust most were advising me to run for Mayor, though some were for Council and even Recorder. And so, I waited until late Saturday, to see if someone would step up, or if the fields for any office would change. No one did. I was willing to serve in any capacity. It's not good to have someone unopposed. An unopposed incumbent, even one with the best of intentions, can feel he or she has a big mandate and is unaccountable to the people. Even so, some people who support me won't like what I'm about to say, but I will say it anyway: we could do worse than the current Mayor. She isn't all bad. But we're in desperate need of a new attitude and a new vision, and that starts from the top. That is what leadership is about. Now, some have already listed some of my strengths and weaknesses. I am young with a wild hairdo. I haven't done everything there is to do. But I squeeze every drop out of what I have done. And, how else does someone gain experience without actually doing it? I don't have all the answers, and I can't just waltz in and make everything better. I'm not going to promise that; I'm not Barack Obama. But there is a clear choice between the current mayor and myself. We have entirely different strengths and weaknesses. I firmly believe that my skills are a better fit for where this town is right now, and I'll make that case over the coming months. Ravenswood first.  (Jan 31, 2012 | post #51)

Abortion Debate - Ravenswood, WV

By your own logic, the only time a woman should ever discuss abortion is with a man by whom she is pregnant. In a society of rampant fatherlessness, you should be welcoming of the fact that men want to have that input. As others have said, it takes equal parts genetic material from man and woman to create a child, so until that fact changes, men are going to rightfully want an equal say in that decision. The fact that some call it "a woman's right to choose" is patently absurd. Furthermore, there is absolutely nothing hypocritical or un-Christian about judging a woman's (or anyone's) decision! The Bible calls us to have good judgment-- good discernment-- of actions. It's people who we are not to condemn. That is what's God's job. So yes, I'll judge actions, I'll judge them all day long, and I won't have anyone make me feel guilty about it. God gave us brains and consciences and intuitions. He didn't expect us to shut them off all the time!  (Jan 27, 2012 | post #158)

Didn't say that at all. I work at a faster pace. Anything you add beyond that is just that-- your addition, your spin, your untruth. Not my words.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #117)
