Letters to the Editor - Letters

carronade - Can you please tell us which ballot issue or proposition ended the ban on inter-racial marriage? Which one ended slavery or gave women the right to vote? They were not ballot issues. Marriage is not thousands of years old. The modern version - based on love is less than 100 years old. Up until the early 1900's women were betrothed and had really no say in the matter. In fact that is still the case for some. Marriage has it's origin in protection of wealth, blood lines and there for transfer of power. Marrying for love is a relatively new concept when you look at the total history of man and civilization. So yes the definition of marriage has changed as we have grown and educated ourselves as a society. But we are not talking about marriage here we are talking about Civil Unions - as any real lawyer or half way educated person will tell you you cannot switch words in the law and have them mean the same thing. So do not bring up 1998 - that is 12 years ago and a lot has changed and that was about marriage NOT civil unions. What other really old data would you like the legislature to make their decisions on? Do not worry passing Civil Unions is still treating the LGBT community as second class citizens so that should let you sleep at night ;-)  (Jan 12, 2010 | post #37)

Really when they pass Civil Unions they will create jobs and income for the state. When was the last time the government able to that without raising taxes or raiding a fund? The jobs from all the celebrations of love after the Civil Unions are performed and the income comes from the issuance of civil unions licenses. If they do it before Valentine's Day that will just help push the economy forward. The LGBT community knows how to throw a party!  (Jan 12, 2010 | post #27)

If we do that, which of your civil rights can we vote on? YOUR right to free speech or how about your right to vote? We do not vote on ANY ONE'S civil rights. We did not vote to end slavery, give woman the right to vote and we should not be voting on Civil Unions!  (Jan 12, 2010 | post #26)

Jobs, not civil unions, is focus, Lingle says - Hawaii News

Dear Idiot Jr (that is your name right?) That we 12 YEARS ago and the issue on the ballot was to give the LEGISLATURE the power to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. This is about civil unions NOT marriage. Any half descent lawyer or for that matter semi-educated person will tell you they are not the same thing. In the law you cannot just switch names and have them mean the same thing. We should not be voting on civil rights - we did not vote for women to get the right to vote or end slavery. You are the one that needs to remember that there is someone that you know and love that is a member of the LGBT community. So when you fight against our civil rights you are fighting against that person too and that is sad!  (Jan 9, 2010 | post #52)

Jobs, not civil unions, is focus, Lingle says - Hawaii News

This just goes to show that you have not read the bill and you need to educate yourself! Civil Unions is not a "special right" it is a CIVIL RIGHT!  (Jan 9, 2010 | post #45)

Jobs, not civil unions, is focus, Lingle says - Hawaii News

It is a shame that Lingle's OWN homophobia blinds her to the fact that passing the Civil Unions Bill will create jobs (from all the celebrations of Love) and then there is the income for the state from just the issuance of the CU licenses. Never mind the LGBT tourism dollars ...  (Jan 9, 2010 | post #32)

Isle GOP snags Bush's 'architect' for annual Lincoln Day ...

So they are bringing in Bush's brain to raise money - in the end all they are going to do is remind everyone that the Hawaii GOP really does stands for the mess that Bush made of this country and the world! I guess they are bringing him because they do not want to win anything in 2010. Or eas it because they could not afford Palin - oh wait Lingle is still **** she was not chosen as McCain's losing mate!  (Jan 1, 2010 | post #20)

No I am the person that cleans up my community by getting rid of ILLEGAL signs. And I do not SNEAK around removing the signs, I do it broad daylight and I get a lot of people thanking me for cleaning up the neighborhood. Something I am sure that you have never gotten! But I bet you are a person that believes that everyone should litter?  (Dec 31, 2009 | post #78)

Really?!!? We are the problem? Funny when I am out in the community I have people come up to me and thank me for standing up to Dudley and his few followers. In fact just today I was at Target and Costco running some errands and I had a couple of complete strangers come up to me and thank me for all my hard volunteer work for the community. I know this has happened to Maeda Timson too because I have been there when it has happened. So once again you do not know what you are talking about. Question when was the last time a complete stranger came up to you and thanked you for all that you do? My better guess is never. FYI - You can check out our latest community improvement project on-line at **** mgRITwLKHBY You know who the problem is, all you people that say "NO" to everything. You have yours and you do not care about anyone else. That is sad, especially during the holidays.  (Dec 25, 2009 | post #74)
