Mets talkback

With all the arm injuries happening to pitchers it is past time to reverse the decision made in the winter of 68. Raise the mound back up to 15 inches. They already helped the batters by bringing in the fences making almost every ball field a band box. This 10 inch mound isn't cutting it.  (Aug 30, 2013 | post #35717)

I do enjoy Keith's analysis especially when it comes to pitchers giving batters a little chin music, ala Gibson, Marichal, Seaver, Drysdale, Ryan, Carlton, and Koosman. I do miss the way the game was played in the 60's. Don't get to comfortable batter hit this!!!  (Aug 17, 2013 | post #35667)

Carlos Torres, Jeurys Familia those are the two names that come to mind immediately, they are at least major league proven.  (Aug 17, 2013 | post #35666)

I agree with you Ed. Harvey is not ready for a Cy Young award. Tomk Seaver had two major advantages when he pitched 1)in 67 he completed 18 games and 68 he completed 14 games, you were allowed to do that back then and 2) He was throwing from a 15 inch high mound not a 10 inch high mound like today. Kuroda doesn't bother me because he is 38 and at that age you should know how to win more than a 24 year old kid. I can only imagine what Harvey is going to be like in 2 years. A monster!!!!!  (Aug 16, 2013 | post #35664)

Being that the Mets are going to a 6 man rotation and the fact that the bull pen is short the obvious strategy is to let your starters go for as long as they can..7, 8, or a complete game when possible.  (Aug 11, 2013 | post #35654)

A big question at the end of this season is going to be what could Wheeler have done with Marcum's 12 starts? Would he have been 1-10?  (Aug 11, 2013 | post #35653)

Dis how are you???? Great to see you back. There's one other pitcher we can't forget. In fact he refuses to let us forget him and that is Mejia. He's up right now and making a case for himself. Niese will stay because the only other lefthander the Mets have right now is at St Lucie and he's a couple of years away from a shot. If I were to guess on next years opening starting five it would be Harvey, Wheeler, Mejia, Niese, and Gee. Gee is the man on the bubble and maybe traded by the deadline next July. Snydergaard is doing very well at Binghamtom and should make his debut by the All star break in July. Montero is struggling a little at Las Vegas he does have a world of talent and could be traded for some top hitting prospects a lot depends on how Mejia does. My money is on Mejia his talent and arm are back and he is here and hungry.  (Aug 11, 2013 | post #35652)

Flores played Shortstop up until 3 years ago, them they shifted his position to 3rd base because of Reyes. When the Mets resigned Wright they then shifted him to 2b because they thought Murphy would not be a good fielder. Solution: Put him back at Short stop Tejada is not the answer. I heard the BS reason for not playing him during a Met game broadcast for not playing him at SS is that he is "To Big" well Cal Ripken Jr., Jeter, and A-rod all blew that bs reason out of the water. If they are smart they will put Flores at short in the winter league and bring him back next spring at his original position of SS. Murphy stays at second as far as Davis is concerned we can bring up Nail's son Allen Dykstra to challenge him at 1b in the spring and let the better man win.  (Aug 11, 2013 | post #35651)

Well let's see what goes on after July 31. I don't see any trades. Duda and Niese will be back shortly which means that Brown will go down and so will Germen, Torres goes back to the bull pen. Montiero isn't ready yet he is getting hit pretty hard at Vegas so he will come up in the spring. I see Byrd and Duda in a platoon as well as Satin and Davis. The man on the pitching bubble is Hefner if they decide to go with a 5 man rotation instead of six. Will be interesting to see how they finish out the year.  (Jul 30, 2013 | post #35634)

As usual Pete you know only too well that pitching is the top priority and Tampa Bay made it to the 08 series on a strong staff.  (Jul 12, 2013 | post #35609)

Hey Pete how goes it down there. You're darn right it does. Pitching always has to be the number one concern for a ball team. Hitting is good too but if you can't get outs you don't win games.  (Jul 12, 2013 | post #35608)

Very true. The Double A team at Binghamton is stacked with pitching and some hitters. Ike Davis better start hitting because if he doesn't then Allan Dykstra will be showing up at spring training in 2014 ready to make a bid for 1b.  (Jul 1, 2013 | post #35584)

Looks like the players are actually trying to be a winning team. A couple of young hungry kids sprinkled over some young veterans that want to be on a winning team finally and some older veterans that want to show that they still can play. Now this combination could make the rest of the season interesting. Unlike the last GM this Gm seems to have found players that a) Have something left in the tank b) Have something to prove to the Majors or c) The want to stay in the majors.  (Jun 30, 2013 | post #35579)
