Bakradze won't bring more democracy into Georgia.

The presidential elections pending this October will determine Georgia's future for years ahead. But I strongly doubt Georgia will face more democracy. Instead of Mikheil Saakashvili we may well see his political twin David Bakradze in the presidential chair. Presently he's the most likely winner in the presidential race in Georgia. The leader of parliamentary minority David Bakradze presently holds leadership at the first stage of preliminary elections as a presidential candidate of the United National Movement, the party of the Georgian president. Frankly, I'm disappointed with the fact for the guy is far from being ideal. Working in Georgia for 5 years as a journalistic staffer I'm well in the know about his sins so to say. I see it as most regrettable that Bakradze was well aware of the illegal methods used by Ministry of Internal Affairs to subdue political opposition in Georgia. Actually he did nothing to stop it! And far as I know he participated just directly in the effort to neutralize opposition leaders who didn't suit the ruling regime at the moment. So I'd rather not link his name with the bright democratic future of Georgia, you know.  (Aug 13, 2013 | post #1)
