Age Related Macular Degeneration Treatment

There is no one treatment or procedure that cures macular degeneration but that doesn't mean there aren't treatments, lifestyle choices or supplements that help to improve one's vision or prevent further degeneration of the macula. 1. Diet and Nutrition One of the main processes that contributes to macular degeneration and vision loss is chronic inflammation. Exposure to environmental toxins or eating certain foods can be pro-inflammatory. Likewise there are foods that are anti-inflammatory and contribute to reducing chronic inflammation in the body and the eyes. 2. Stem Cells Several Phase I clinical trials are now recruiting participants to study the safety of transplanting embryonic stem cells and to determine dosage. 3. Bionic Retina Sometime in the near future, possibly as soon as 2013, Phase I clinical trials will begin that involve a simple procedure of implanting a retinal chip into patients with degenerative retinas 4. Anti-VEGF Treatment Patients with wet macular degeneration are currently treated with intra-ocular injections of medications that help to dry up leaky blood vessels and prevent the growth of future abnormal capillaries. 5. Macular Pigment Taking antioxidants called carotenoids, like lutein and zeaxanthin, are known to increase macular pigment density. A higher macular pigment density protects the macula from blue light and helps to prevent macular degeneration. 6. Macular Degeneration

Treatments for Dry Macular Degeneration

Dry macular degeneration is a dangerous eye disease that destroys the macula, the important part of our eyes that provides central vision. But currently there is no treatment available for the dry macular degeneration. It progresses towards advanced stage slowly and people with this condition live normal. Once age-related macular degeneration reaches to the advanced stage, no treatment can prevent from vision loss. But some forms of treatments can delay and prevent the intermediate stage from progressing to the advanced stage that causes vision loss. However scientific study has shown that using of some antioxidant vitamins and zinc decrease the impact of dry macular degeneration by slowing down the progress toward advanced stages atleast by 25 percent. Below are the nutrient supplementations that work in lowering the progress of dry macular degeneration. Vitamin E-400 IU Vitamin C- 500 mg Zeaxanthin-2 mg Zinc oxide-80 mg Lutein- 10 mg Copper-2 mg Also you can take vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vegetables, and fruits to lowering the progress of dry macular degeneration. You will not be benefitted by the above vitamins if you do not have any evidence of dry macular degeneration or if you have minimal macular degeneration. Also there are many other eye diseases that are caused by the chemical and mechanical dangers of computer, tablet, and TV screens, and our eyes feel strain and fatigue while working long time in front of computer. Using computer eyewear you can give relief your eyes from strain. So you can use computer glasses when you are working in front of computers, watching TV or playing games in your smartphones. T’aime computer glasses(http://www .halovis.com/) filter the blue ray and other chemical and mechanical dangers that are produced by the computer or tablet screens.  (Jun 17, 2014 | post #1)

Treatments for Wet Macular Degeneration

Wet macular degeneration is the major reason for vision loss especially among the older people. Macular degeneration destroys the most important part of our eyes, macula which provides sharp and central vision. So people, who suffer from this dangerous eye disease find it very difficult to do their daily things like watching TV, working in computers, reading, driving etc. When macular degeneration happens over the age of 50, then it is called as AMD (age-related macular degeneration). This disease always starts as a dry form. If you do not take proper care, it is then goes on to develop wet form. In wet macular degeneration abnormal blood vessels grow in the eyes and then eyes start leaking blood or fluid. As a result people with this disease suffer from loss of vision. The best treatment for wet macular degeneration is using an antibody, anti-VEGF. This antibody is injected into the eyes but the injection is given in every 4 or 8 weeks, it depends on the brand. Currently three types of VEGF are available and they are Lucentis, Avastin, and Macugen. All these are given using intraocular injection. If you start the treatment at the beginning in the development of the disease, then it will slow down the progress of the disease and will increase visual acuity. But the intraocular injection may include several side effects such as retinal detachment, increased eye pressure, and vitreous floaters. Working hour after hour in front of computer also your eyes feel tired and pain because of the blue light that is produced from computer screens. So the best option is to use computer eye glasses that protect your eyes from the chemical and mechanical dangers caused by computer screens, tablets, smartphones, and other electronic displays. To get good quality computer eye glasses that will protect your eyes from the blue light, and other chemical and mechanical dangers of computer screens, you can have a look at T’aime computer glasses(http://www .halovis.com/).
