long time no see in here...just stopped by to put in a brief note. sorry that all is going on in there. I did get to speak to KH and well, im not sorry i left your facility. i didn't think i was power hungry, but, i do feel that the place let a lot of good supers go. based on what those that had been let go all had one common demoninator....NO college degree. It isn't said up front, but when it comes right down to it, well that seems to be what was the deciding factor. So the note of it all, If you don't have a college degree your time as a super COULD be limited. And I say could be.  (Oct 11, 2009 | post #1020)

That is just it...We have let it sink in! We have thought about the "long term" ramifications that happened from all the other concessions we have taken to get new business that has left the plant. Obviously you have NOT gotten laid off for any length of time and have worked steady through out all of this. For those of us that have had "our time in and out" one week on/one week off, we are tired of the not knowing, and surely tired of giving away benefits to get business that does not stay!  (Apr 9, 2009 | post #60)

Just a curious question on this one...What ever happened to the union promoting "BUY AMERICAN"...h mmmm makes you wonder how american we can be when we keep sending our stuff to the 3rd world countries...I agree, we can't afford to buy anything at this point and taking away more wages to keep a dieing industry afloat? makes NO sense.  (Apr 9, 2009 | post #58)

Any of the plants can close if you do not take concessions..That is why they are shelving the lowest plants to see if WE will take them. It has been history in Mendon that we have always bent over backwards to take concessions to keep our jobs. I have been there for over 15 years and for the last 6 of them we have had concessions throughout the plant. What will kill us is if the laid off workers have the belief that they will be called back to work by voting yes. It will not! The question was asked if we at Mendon do NOT take these concessions, will they close the doors, the response was NO. Mendon getting the door panel line, came from a plant that closed because of that line. They couldn't make a good part, or make the line profitable. We still aren't doing a good job. As far at the 900 seating line, look at it like this. They are for big trucks. No one can afford a new vehicle, let alone a gas guzzler. What makes you think that even if they keep us around that we won't go through this once again because big trucks are not selling? In speaking with some that came from the marshall plant before it closed they said Mendon was appearing to be doing the same things that they(marshall) had been doing before it closed. Ask around.  (Apr 9, 2009 | post #55)

They have known about this all along! Your correct with the BS meter going on. Our own UAW bargaining committee was called to an emergency meeting Last Friday in Detroit. So our bargaining committee has known for a week. The company, has known since the first black friday in early November. They have been cutting work force and salaried since then. But at what cost do the workers say enough is enough. Let the CEO's take the brunt, let the "mahagony " row of Mendon take more than 4%. Hell we didn't even get a $5 turkey for Christmas. We have implemented a recycling program that could have at least bought one per family. Oh wait...its not the peoples, it belongs to the company for them to use as they see fit....Trips to Florida anyone?  (Apr 8, 2009 | post #51)

There was something on the local channel news about our meeting in Mendon today. I am told one of our workers(lower tear pay scale laid off) went on camera saying she would agree to concessions if it meant she had a job to come back to? Has anyone informed her that these concessions they are asking for is not to bring back laid off workers, but just to pay the bills and remain open? Come on people? More cuts in Mendon? We have given enough, and if you keep bending over they will keep taking. Now is the time to get together collectively as a bargaining unit and make a stand. We are tired of giving and NOT receiving!  (Apr 8, 2009 | post #47)
