Affordable housing: an opportunity

Actually, when I bought the car, I was told it could get 28 city, 40 highway. I average 35 (yup, manual transmission). I'm selling it to have no car. I'm looking forward to a healthier, car-free lifestyle. I plan on purchasing more at the farmer's market to try to keep my consumption local. I bet I'll miss my car; any Hour Car members out there? Does it work for you?  (Saturday | post #21)

Affordable housing: an opportunity

My Saturn SL (2002) can get up to 40 mpg. It actually got 42mpg on a road trip (driving from gas station to gas station, not stopping once). Strangely, that make/model has been discontinued and no other Saturn gets as good of gas mileage anymore. No wonder I keep getting letters from Saturn offering to buy my car for top dollar.  (Friday Jul 4 | post #15)

A St. Paul landmark falls

It's always been tougher to regulate individuals (who's going to regulate them, HOW do we regulate them, and do they really add up to collective problems? YES!) Here's a voluntary (for now) way to educate one's self on wood burning stoves: http://www.epa.gov /woodstoves/ If you don't do it for our collective selves, then do it for yourself! Have a healthy day.  (Sunday Jun 29 | post #28)

What's your point? Are you saying it wasn't regulated or there wasn't scrubbers? And that the proposed waste incinerator wouldn't be regulated? Time to get educated, Alan.  (Saturday Jun 28 | post #17)

Peddling nonsense on gas prices

I don't like the idea of drilling, but I'm a realist. If there's a viable (more than 6 months) supply of oil, we'll drill there eventually. I still wish Bachmann's and other people's ideas included conservation. People can tout it as "saving money" and forget the environment! Win-win. I won't actively support drilling in ANWR but again I'm realistic to know it'll happen. Maybe if there were strict conditions (equal amount of money spent on renewables as is spent on exploration and recovery of this oil) will we get somewhere we all want to get.  (Monday Jun 23 | post #46)

Peddling nonsense on gas prices

Just looking for the facts. I've heard that we have 2 decades' worth of oil and also I've heard we have 6 months worth of oil in ANWR. To be truthful, let's just drill to get it over with; every drop of "easy-to-get- at" oil will be gone before anyone considers any real forms of alternative forms of energy/fuel. But again, I'm looking for FACTS to support one's best case scenario, as I'm trying to be balanced when I think about this issue.  (Monday Jun 23 | post #38)

Worth a try

Totally knew what you meant, Chris! I can't imagine it's so hard to let us have EDIT BUTTONS around here! I'm not 100% against her plan, but I'm more eager to try other things before this. I'm doing my part; I'm selling my car. I'm shopping at the farmer's market, joined a CSA and co-op. It's expensive, and it's taken me over a year to adjust my finances to do this. Selling my car is going to be a hard decision that I'll regret often, but I think I'll be a healthier, happier person as a result.  (Monday Jun 23 | post #6)

Worth a try

Patrick Spencer, I am not "doing nothing." I have reduced my transportation (by car) greatly over the last 2 years. In a month, I will have no car. I will get a better bike, join the hour car program, and carpool with willing friends to grocery stores (my restaurant costs will go up to thank these generous people!) Let's all try something new to reduce how much we drive, in phases that you're comfortable with.  (Monday Jun 23 | post #5)

Brutal lesbians torture 5 year old boy

I justify nothing. These sick women should have to pay to the fullest extent of the law. But I don't excuse the thousands of heterosexual parents who abuse kids either. Do you?  (Sunday Jun 22 | post #9)

Pagans and partygoers celebrate the summer solstice at Stonehenge

The fact that she was quoted in a large newspaper doesn't mean that ZB can't make comments. I shared the same feeling she did when I read that one quote. Hopefully the 21 year old will be humbled to be at such an ancient, yet important monument.  (Saturday Jun 21 | post #7)

Okay, please provide me with information (with citations)on the absolutely best case scenario on drilling for oil in ANWR.  (Saturday Jun 21 | post #14)
