Sexting cases on the rise

I do believe that teenagers sending nude pictures of themselves via cell phone is a BIG problem that definately needs to be addressed; however, I believe that the child porn charges are a little extreme for what's going on.  (Apr 1, 2009 | post #8)

Portsmouth presents proposed budget

Although many believe that raising taxes isn't the answer, I'm willing to give a little extra money each year to the city to keep our police officers, teachers, and fire fighters onboard. If you don't believe you should give additional money for those necessities, then do the city a favor, and don't use the resources you aren't willing to help pay for! I believe that, from what has been reported here, it seems like the city is doing what's best for the city and the citizens that reside here. I do hope though that worked into that budget was an increase in pay for our Police Officers; they work incredibly hard to keep us safe and deserve the increse they're asking for!!  (Apr 1, 2009 | post #1)

Dogbreeder faces animal cruelty charge

This lady should not ever be allowed to own another animal, let alone have rights to breed them. If she was taking care of the dog and the chicken how she was supposed to be, the two would have never intersected to begin with and the dog wouldn't have killed the chicken. People who have animals need to have a little decency and learn to properly care for them, or else not have them.  (Mar 31, 2009 | post #17)

Student allegedly left alone at store

This sort of thing seems to be happening more and more, here lately. I don't understand a teacher believing that it's okay to drop a child off at a convenience store, or a bus driver who doesn't walk down the aisle of the bus to verify there are no kids prior to leaving it parked in a parking lot for the day, or a bus driver who blatently ignores information given to her and drops off an autistic child who has limited speech abilities at a closed after-school facility. If you aren't willing to take the responsibility, step down and let someone who is have the job! There are too many people right now looking for jobs!  (Mar 30, 2009 | post #7)

Va to increase food stamp benefits

I agree with Samantha! Foodstamps should be given only to those people who really need them. My husband and I both work our butts off, and a majority of the people on food stamps in the grocery store line in front of us are eating so much better than we do!! And I would much rather support a single individual than a family of four where the adults are doing something on the side and not reporting the income! I also think this is one of the programs that should require routine and random drug testing in order to receive benefits.  (Mar 30, 2009 | post #2)

States consider welfare drug tests

Come on Virginia, let's get this started!! I believe that if they are using drugs they should certainly not be receiving financial assistance of ANY kind from the government. There are too many people looking for assistance who really need it, and there will unfortunately be many more before this is all over with. It will cost VA much less to conduct a drug screen than it will to pay these people monthly benefits. This would certainly save our state and country a lot of money!!  (Mar 27, 2009 | post #11)

Head of school blasts Suffolk police

Having the police come in and do random drug searches should be a routine and random event and as a parent, I can't understand why any other parent would upset with this happening. The Suffolk Police did as they were asked, and didn't even do it to the best of their ability due to school officials asking them not to!! Shame on Nanesmond Suffolk Academy!  (Mar 27, 2009 | post #7)

Obama: Don't demonize investors

Day by day they are slowing taking over the entire country... but that's okay, because when it happens, I DARE the fools that put him office to utter one word of discontempt.  (Mar 25, 2009 | post #3)

Former PTA president wanted by police

The criminal acts this lady committed are nothing short of pathetic. The children in this school count on their PTA to help them out, as do the teachers and for someone to steal from so many is wrong on so many levels. My prayers go out to the children at this school; hopefully the parents can all join together to create a better system within the PTA so this sort of thing can not and will not happen again in the future.  (Mar 25, 2009 | post #16)

Navy making cuts

That's right, tighten funding for our military and instead lets give the money to those who bought homes they couldn't afford and to companies who need to be "bailed out" but can afford to hand out millions in bonuses!!  (Mar 25, 2009 | post #2)

Cameras headed to Norfolk garages

It's at the very least a step in the right direction for Norfolk to place cameras both inside and outside of parking garages. Hopefully this will deter some of the crime that's been taking place.  (Mar 25, 2009 | post #4)

Norf. officer kills suspect in gunfight

You can say what you want in defense of the young men, but anyone who's willing to shoot at a Police Officer deserves to be shot right back; the Police just tend to have better aim! If you are willing to shoot at an Officer, you are blatantly showing that you have no respect for the law, and little regard for your life.  (Mar 24, 2009 | post #71)

Fatal shooting in the Waterside garage

The gun violence is getting to be absolutely ridiculous. Everyday I take a look at the news reports and someone else has been shot and murdered. What are these people trying to prove by taking someone else's life; all they are managing to do is score themselves some time in jail. Apparently the punishment for these crimes isn't harsh enough because it certainly isn't a deterant whatsoever. It is unfortunate that guns oftentimes tend to fall into the hands of those who really shouldn't possess them. I have a 5 month old and it really sickens me to hear what this world is coming to. I'm not anti-guns because I own several, but it's just ridiculous what's going on around here!  (Mar 24, 2009 | post #13)
