Southside rail route

Installing light-rail for the entire Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area is a brilliant idea. Allowing light-rail access to Newport News Shipbuilding, Norfolk Naval Base, ODU, just to name a few, will decrease traffic and do wonders for the environment of the area. It amazes me that an area so hell-bent on preservation of historical land would also be one of the areas to buck the idea of having light-rail. I live in the Pacific Northwest and the light-rail system is embraced out here and it keeps our people active and streets less crammed with cars. People are more inclined to take the train close to their job and ride their bike the rest of the way. It keeps people fit, less broke, and stress-free. I can't tell you how much I'd rather spent 45 minutes commuting on a bus or train reading the paper and doing a crossword instead of waiting for 90 minutes because there's an accident in the tunnel.  (Jun 15, 2009 | post #9)

GOP shorted

Totally agree. While I haven't seen the coverage the Daily Press had (or didn't have) on the Republican Convention I think your letter lost all credibility when you referred to Fox News as being "Fair and Balanced".  (Jun 6, 2009 | post #6)

Doctor who performed abortions shot to death in church

All of your points are valid and I agree whole-heartedly. However, it's the religious right that it is impossible to convince. Reproductive and mental health of a female evidently stops when she becomes pregnant. She then loses all rights as a citizen and the fetus inside her then becomes CEO of all vital systems in her body. Wow, what a bunch of control freaks. :)  (Jun 4, 2009 | post #238)

Show patriotism

Patriotism is a devoted love to one's country and not necessarily to one's military. That fact that the writer has insinuated that there is only one form of a patriotism is a bit short-sighted.  (Jun 4, 2009 | post #4)

Doctor who performed abortions shot to death in church

Just as there are some women who have abortions recklessly we have people who drink and drive, rob banks, get addicted to drugs, and make all kinds of bad choices in their lives. However, one lesson I think we should have learned by now as a people is to not define an entire segment of a population by the loudest and/or most careless members. Many women have and need late-term abortions due to health reason and that painful decision should be left between the doctor and the patient and never a law to discern if the abortion is the right choice.  (Jun 3, 2009 | post #193)

A core belief

I wouldn't expect someone like you to know the difference between HIV and AIDS. You lack the education to know that there is a difference. Nonetheless, I will inform you (since you wouldn't inform youself) that people living with HIV are no different than people living with Diabetes. It's a life-long manageable illness that involves a pill or two a day and you can live as long as most people. Needless to say, I will outlive you and you hatred by a long, long, time. :)  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #203)

You should really start these kinds of sentences with making it very clear that you are exercising and opinion. You're certainly not stating fact.  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #51)

Private gun sales

Youre gas-sucking SUV's are entirely different thread. However, I usually forget about those horrid vehicles as I live in Portland and we know better out here. Operating a toaster is entirely different than brandishing a weapon. The lawnmower example was a bit better, however, that is more the subject of the child being able to usually only hurt himself. I'm not sure how you can defend the idea that a pre-teen should be able to use a gun.  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #121)

There's no history of sexual abuse in my family and it's incredibly judgmental for you to even insinuate such a ludicrous charge.  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #156)

Private gun sales

12 years old is far to young to be brandishing a weapon. It's just common sense. We need to instill strict licensing on our weaponry in this country and being over the age of 16 should be the precursor.  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #117)

Absolutely not. But I am incredibly familiar with the religion and understand how Jesus led his life. Clearly, one doesn't need to be a Christian to know how to act like one. Most people who claim to be Christians don't act like them. :)  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #63)

Truly a heart-breaking story. It's a sad day for women across America. And it's a shame that we can't put the issue to rest long enough to allow people to really digest what has happened. A pro-life advocate has killed someone for providing a legal service to women in need.... absolutely heart-breaking. Rest in Peace, DR. Tiller.  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #36)

A core belief

Of course homosexuals are born that way for the most part. I think the reason why it has been so difficult to track down exactly why we are how and who we are is because there is probably more than one catalyst for homosexuality. I know for me, it runs in my family. I've always assumed that it was quite normal considering we come from heterosexual people. Thus making us the ONLY genocide free minority. You can't eradicate homosexuals because you heterosexuals will just create more of us! I can't think of any better reason than that why you should get over yourselves and accept that we are here to stay and deserve equal rights and protection under the law.  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #150)

Pay the taxes

To say you didn't make the bed is pretty funny. You are a part of the populations of American who shove homosexuals into a box, insult them, call them immoral, and hurl insults willy-nilly. Now, once someone reaches an acceptable age they do tend to recognize that people like you are filth and that getting upset by your vile hatred only makes us a tougher people. However, people like you also have damaging effects on younger homosexuals, driving them into horrible scenarios and yes, even sometimes with them winding up with diseases they can't get rid of. You want to open that can of worms, buddy? You need to look at the society you help fashion in this country and ask yourself how responsible you truly are for the amount of drug problems in not only homosexual circles but also in many other minorities. Get off of your cross and come down and clean the sheets with everyone else. That's what Jesus would have done  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #61)
