Other border states shun Arizona's immigration law

Have you read Arizona's SB 1070? It is 16 pages, mostly outlining penalties for those who employ illegals. It took me five minutes to read it (I'm no Evelyn Wood speed-reader) -- which instantly made me better informed than grand-standing athletes and entertainers who threaten to boycott all things Arizona. Worse, officials in Washington, D.C. threatened to sue AZ, while admitting they had NOT read the bill. Now, the federal government is using your money and mine to file suit vs. a bill that most thinking Americans roundly support. Read it for yourself, neighbors. SB 1070 is a benign bill, wrongly characterized as open-season for racial profiling by politicians shamelessly playing politics with our national security. Read the bill. Form your own opinion.  (Jul 19, 2010 | post #5489)

Obama appointee, UTEP professor, is a mentor, 'compass'

Whewww. In Obama's administration, imagine just how far left your politics must be to qualify for such an "honor."  (May 25, 2010 | post #19)

Ex-UTEP quarterback Jordan Palmer works, waits for chance...

Dear Rick Pigskin, This may come as a total shock, but they play for real money in the NFL. Each franchise is not a frat, where a legacy can be admitted over an equally qualified pledge. For you to intimate that Carson Palmer is somehow a wink-wink add-on because of his brother, Jordan ... may I suggest that you check your hole card. NFL clubs don't keep a guy on the roster unless he can contribute, now or in the future. Too much money at stake to do otherwise.  (May 19, 2010 | post #14)

Arnett Moultrie will not return to UTEP basketball team, ...

Anybody surprised by Moultrie's departure has not been paying attention. His game is anything but complete. Indeed, at most any top 25-type program -- including UTEP's -- Moultrie must improve his rebounding and shot selection to earn playing time in the sub rotation. The starting five? He's got a lot of work to do. Then there's the issue of that top-heavy roster Coach Floyd inherited from Coach Barbee ... Miners ended the season with 11 juniors who will be seniors 2010-2011. Eleven! There are only five starting spots and one basketball. Somebody had to go. With Moultrie joining that well-fed former center (gee, what was his name?), the roster is now down to nine seniors. Expect more roster moves by mid-summer. In this case, this is addition by subtraction. Less is more gooder. Viva Miners! UTEP Class of '72  (May 7, 2010 | post #24)

The roster still needs a young point guard, a playmaker-in-training to run the show in two years and beyond.  (Apr 29, 2010 | post #4)

UTEP students to vote on new fee for athletics

Law of the jungle: Gotta pay to play. If my favorite university wants to remain truly competitive -- in athletics, in academics -- it will cost money. This long-standing debate over funding is a healthy exchange, of course, but lost are the facts that tenured faculty, while hardly starving, does not attract thousands of visitors willing to pay to see one of their presentations. Further, the academic, social and cultural experience at UTEP, now as always, represents a strong value for the consumer dollar. Viva Miners! Mark S. Quarter by quarter updates: UTEP vs. Texas

Whewww. We drove back to the Permian Basin from Austin last Saturday night wondering if and when the Miners will start blocking and tackling. Mack Brown says this UTEP team is better than last year; Mike Price said the same thing BEFORE that dismaying performance. Now, I wonder. Disappointed as we may be, please save me a seat Saturday night for the Houston game. My fam and I'll be there. Front-runners, do me a favor and don't clog up the parking log. UTEP ... first, last, always, orange and Blue (class of '72).  (Sep 28, 2009 | post #182)
