men leaving their fat wives for slender ones

"If they'll do it with you, they'll do it to you." Those slender new ones will be looking for another man to steal before you know it. You'll never be able to trust each other. Your reward for lack of morals or willpower I guess.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #32)

Not really. Using a plant is using a plant. Using a plant derivative is using a plant derivative. If it's poisonous you might not wanna use it. But this one isn'tNo, people aren't correct if they've suggested that alcohol does "just as much" harm. It does more. Sounds like you might want to do some research yourself. You're calling people uneducated, then suggesting without any basis that marijuana is as bad for you as alcohol, and presuming that people using marijuana will increase people's usage of worse things. This issue isn't about hard drugs, or alcohol. It's about marijuana and whether or not there's any reason you shouldn't be able to smoke it. There's not. I dunno why you're so hung up on pretending otherwise.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #85)

That's the whole issue. It's helpful, and not harmful in the same way as other harmful substances. It might carry some of the same basic side effect warnings such as "may cause dizziness or nausea". But it's not "limit use or it can make your stomach bleed or hurt your liver." You're trying to make your entire argument out of unsupported false equivalencies.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #84)

If you take something for a fever or headache, or any other medical reason, aren't you still avoiding reality, or using a substance to alter your reality? It's not really for you to say who needs what, or who would prefer what. If you think every aspect of life is one continuous pissing contest, or that people should make decisions on how they enjoy their spare time based on what generalizing douches on message boards have to say, you could probably use a good bit of reevaluating as well.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #83)

So then you're saying that you absolutely under no circumstances ever eat out on Sundays, right?  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #58)

Gay Rights

Then you better stay the hell out of stores on Sundays! People love trying to use the Bible on this issue. But you don't use the whole Bible. Did you know that if you're brother dies, leaving a widow and no children, it's your biblical duty as a brother in law to sleep with her and give her children? Did you know that in the aftermath of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Bible tells the story of incestuous date-rape? Yeah, Lot, the guy who was blessed with warning and passage out of Sodom for offering his virgin daughters to be gang-raped by the townsfolk, in place of his guests...well he got date-raped by both of those daughters in a cave. I dunno if you've ever heard of the Moabites or Ammonites, but those people were named after the two incestuous sons conceived in that cave. But man, if you're a sane, loving adult with an attraction to the same gender, don't you dare even think about long term relationships with equal legal rights and benefits. What a book! Still, it already has no relevance to modern marriage. It's already not a requirement. So believe oppressively if you will, but keep such nonsense out of law.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #57)

Gay Rights

Conservatives never get enough parroting false equivalents. Gay marriage is the consensual marriage of one adult to another adult. It's no different than traditional marriage except that the 2 people involved are drawn to members of the same sex. Equating this to someone getting aroused by children or animals is no different than saying that straight men want the right to marry children and animals of the opposite sex. You're a complete moron. If you're "Christian " you should do or not do a LOT of things that aren't really practiced. Do you work on Sunday? If you don't, do you 100% of the time stay home on Sunday? Cause even if you don't work, if you go out and do anything, spend any money at all, you're supporting someone else working on the Sabbath. Marriage isn't a religious issue. You can go to a courthouse, get married with no involvement of anything or anyone of religion. You can then cheat on your spouse, kill them to be with your lover, get convicted for the murder, and get remarried to your mistress while sitting in prison... Any idea of some exclusive religious right to or protection of the "sanctity " of marriage already does not exist. It's not a requirement. It's not an inherent part. It's just the tradition of those with religious belief. Period. Loving, consenting adults marrying has nothing to do with you. It doesn't affect your ability to marry who you want, in a church if you choose. It certainly shouldn't require your permission.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #56)

Honestly, I wouldn't care if someone had 5 wives. The problems I could see with it would be considering how you'd handle financial legal issues, like income taxes, government aid, etc. I'd also worry about children involved, in instances of there being mental instability involved in the parents. But there shouldn't be a restriction for religious reasons.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #55)

Here's the thing. That's your choice of mythology. Personally I think the church should've adopted the divine birth story where his name was Horus. It coulda been quite marketable. Anyway, believing in myth is not a requirement for anything at all in this country. People who believe in different things, or nothing, all have equal rights in this country. That means you CANT make a law that restricts a certain group of people based on a religious belief. Period. But that aside, your book doesn't say they can't marry. And people who use it as some justification for oppressive perspective also extremely rarely know half of what the book says or support the other parts of it just as zealously. Finally, let's not pretend you honestly believe that loving a possession and loving another person are the same thing. If you do, well, I hope you have no children.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #53)

Atheism requires as much faith as religion?

I don't know about pretend. It's probably just the definition of the word that allows them to think it... myth noun 1. a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #151832)

What about his daddy, God, the one who created wickedness for which we all must burn? What kind of an asshole would set a plate of cookies in front of a bunch of kids, just to tell them not to eat them, or else burn forever, but let me make you really crave the cookies too...p.s. I love you and am forgiving!  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #25733)

Well it's a good thing for all the homosexuals that this God of yours is a myth. phew, there's a load off. Seriously, how can you say with a straight face that there's a God who made gays, but never intended for them to be gay? That there's a God who created good and evil and everything else, but the evil is actually our fault, as is the fact that He created us to desire evil ways...so naturally we gotta burn if we don't choose to act as opposite as possible of the way He created us... It's just nonsense. Any God would understand that this doesn't make sense. Why would He want people to be further encouraged to steer away from Him by telling a bunch of dipshit men to write a bunch of silly convoluted stories? He REALLY wants to make it even that much harder for all us humans to not be the way he made us? ugh...  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #25732)
