Making sense of the summer season

You really believe the hype of the FA or is it just another piece of junk science that you want to accept in order to refute climate change? The FA has a terrible record of predictions, but their marketing department's PR campaign combined with the gullibility of the public perpetuates the myth of the FA's self-reported of accuracy. Along with firewood, you should go buy some homeopathic remedies for the flu and hire a dowser next time you need to drill a well.  (Sep 22, 2008 | post #5)

A good alternative to Verizon

I have contacted WiSpring several times through their website about getting hi-speed access in Tyringham, and they have never responded. They're also very expensive, about three times the cost of Verizon. Obviously, they are not the great solution they make themselves out to be.  (Aug 30, 2008 | post #1)

Me, myself and I

It tells you very little unless you can compare it with other columnists. For example, Michelle Gillett used "I" 12 times in her last column - does that say anything about her? It might, but 12 - 15 might be the average (mean) usage for "I" in columns of a specific length. If you believe that Chartock is self-absorbed, your correct. But the usage of "I" does not necessarily suggest that in the absence of additional statistical information.  (Aug 17, 2008 | post #4)

Church is adjusting to reality

Why are the religious and republicans always playing the victim card? It's the liberal media. It's the local government. Oh who will help us? The Eagle is owned by a bunch of conservatives, mainstream media is owned by large conservative corporations, and the government is run by theists - try to find one who says their an aesthetic. And over 90% of society say they believe in god. But don't let facts get in your way of spouting nonsense.  (Aug 14, 2008 | post #3)

Global warming is so much twaddle

A very brilliant point - especially your ability to confuse weather and climate. On warm days in winter does your opinion charge? Why is this a left/right issue? Probably similar to the ID/evolution debate - science just gets in the way of the way the righties want the world to be. Evidence just gets in the way of their ideology and dogma.  (Aug 14, 2008 | post #35)

A halt to church closings

What do editors have to do with the separation of church and state. And churches have lectured politicians about abortion and assisted suicide - do you actually understand what the separation says or do you just repeat the same tired old nonsense?  (Aug 13, 2008 | post #4)

Price of gas worries board

The selectman should stay out it - let the free market decide. The gas stations can charge whatever price they want and we can decide where to get gas. This is not an issue for the government.  (Aug 8, 2008 | post #8)

Company's earnings increase

You and Chartock have the same level of critical thinking skills. You remind me of the people who on a sub-zero day in winter claim "there's no global warming." Recession does not mean that no one is making money - just 2 quarters of -GDP growth. Don't let facts get in your way of ranting - another thing you and Chartock have in common. You may also want to check your geography - Mass is subset of US. And as long as your at it, check out all the republicans, libertarians, etc. who all think this is a recession.  (Aug 4, 2008 | post #3)

Cancer expert warns of cell phone risks

Who should the news come from - the head of the podiatry research unit? Claiming a big conspiracy is an insult to all those doctors spending countless hours in the lab. The survival rate for cancer patients is considerably higher (for certain types) than it was 50 years ago. I'm sure big oil is covering up the 100mpg car, 9/11 was a government conspiracy, and we never really landed on the moon.  (Jul 25, 2008 | post #11)

MassPike paid 43 employees $100K-plus

No federal or state tax dollars go to operating Mass Pike. What's really amazing is that $400,000 tax dollars go to W Bushy for ruining the economy, spying on private citizens, going to war on false pretenses and then messing that up. Tax dollars well spent on his salary - right.  (Jul 24, 2008 | post #5)

Clergy scandal can't just go away

It's all the fault of those evil liberal media out to destroy the catholic faith. They just can't let go of the story. Just like the keep reporting high gas prices - maybe if they stopped reporting, gas would go lower. Or maybe they keep reporting on clergy sexual assaults (it is not an scandal - that's trivializing it), because the problem hasn't gone away and will not go away until the church does something real about it. The money is about compensating the victims and penalizing the churches to hit them where it hurts - their overflowing coffers. There are few ways that the courts can compensate victims of horrific acts, but money can help in numerous ways.  (Jul 9, 2008 | post #3)

Church chimes in on global warming crisis

Why does anyone care what the churches stand on anything is except for their own inner workings. They need to stay out of science, politics, health, etc. Let the church worry about how much money they get in the collection plate and how many questionable and undeserved tax breaks they get. But stay away from everything else - except, of course, as individuals with the right to speak, but please, let the church go away.  (Jul 5, 2008 | post #3)

Talk, no action on fuel prices

Lets find someone to blame. Lets get congress to do something. It's the environmentalists (how prove me wrong thinks they have any power is truly bizarre thinking). No it's the republican party in bed with big oil. No it's speculators. There must be someone we can BLAME. It can't be all those years we drove SUVs and trucks that we didn't need - but boy we looked cool in them. Oil prices are high because demand is high and we made it so.  (Jul 2, 2008 | post #5)

Underrated educational success story

Sounds good - once you separate the two, no more tax dollars going to school. Those with kids should pay for schooling their kids and those without children should NOT have to pay.  (Jun 19, 2008 | post #2)

City needs good affordable housing

I'm all in favor of affordable clean housing, but don't call it a "free market economy" if the government is involved in tax-credits or interest free loans. If you want to make it fair, then open up those tax-credits and loans to all landlords so they can renovate their dumps. If not, then fine, but don't call it a free market.  (Jun 18, 2008 | post #2)
