Did you know that Haitians come in all colors -- there are also blond blue eyed fair skinned Haitians! Please learn something about a group of people before you make general uneducated comments.  (Jun 13, 2007 | post #24)

I'm not sure what your talking about. I wrote and spoke about national pride because I am proud of who I am and where I was born. Haiti is not perfect but it is ours. As for what I have done with the opportunity I have had -- I obtained a good education at a prominent university in NYC -- graduated with 2 degrees -- I have a great job that pays me very well -- I sponsor several children in Haiti & Africa to help them get an education, (not just my family) and the basic necessities of life -- I own two homes in NYC and California. I agree that some of the comments are being written by small minded bigoted individuals, but please do not lump everyone and/or the opinions in one category -- this makes you as ignorant as the people you are complaining about.  (Jun 13, 2007 | post #23)

This situation maybe true in Haiti and various other countries -- however, these kids were not being forced to play soccer and travel around the globe as part of a team. They were not starving or living unsheltered in a soccer stadium. Although, the horrific problem you mentioned is a reality in various countries throughout the world-- it was not their reality and we should not try to justify their inexcusable, shameful action. Do not demean the message you are trying to send about children in life threating, psyche damaging conditions with these children who were living a life that those kids could only hopelessly dream about. I think in your zeal to put your message across -- you have not taken into account the feeling of shame and lack of national pride these children have shown not just to the world but to the kids that look at them with great hope -- heroes if you will. The contracts they could have obtained in the future other kids would give their right arm for. Haiti may not be the ideal country now but with a sense of pride, nationalism there is potential for the people and the nation to move forward.  (Jun 13, 2007 | post #22)

13 Haitian Football Players Escape the Group in New York

"Defection " is right -- however, according to the info I'm getting -- they will pay a high price for this disgrace. The Federation has given them until 5pm NY time to return to their group -- after that the FBI will begin a kidnapping investigation because they were all minors and could not have consented to this decision or conceived of this idea on their own. Without assistance they could not simply get on a bus at Kennedy airport and disappear - someone had to be waiting for them. They tricked their coach by saying they were hungry and wanted to get some McDonalds. McDonalds while others how would die for their opportunity and be proud to represent their country -- languish at home in HUNGER. All the time knowing they were going to bring about National SHAME!  (Jun 13, 2007 | post #3)

Personally, this makes me angry -- even these men who have an opportunity to play a game they love, travel and get a chance to lift of the "face" of Haiti. Instead the slap the Haitian "face" down in shame. Is their exsitance so horrible that they had to run away and again put Haiti in a negative light. If these men who are not actually living of incredible hunger, and proverity in Haiti are not willing to stand up for their country --- than should Haitians just give up - all pack up and move -- because obviously there is no such thing as Haitian Pride. I've been listening more and more to the Haitian radio stations and it seems the love of everything American has surpassed any love of self that may have existed in Haiti. Let me hear from you.  (Jun 13, 2007 | post #1)

The Development of Islam in Haiti

Your right! I can not speak for all blacks, but we haitians need to start thinking for ourselves and not let other people guide our development as a people.  (Jun 7, 2007 | post #3)

The Development of Islam in Haiti

Has anyone read this story or heard anymore on this subject? What's your opinion? Is the introduction of Islam a good thing for Haiti or will it bring more tears and sorrow to a people who are already crying for mercy?  (Jun 5, 2007 | post #1)

I agree, he should face the music where he did the crime. Even though he will eventually get deported but that will be a while down the road and just maybe, maybe will have learned his lesson.  (Jun 5, 2007 | post #2)
