Dominican Republic: Trujillo's Victims Seek Justice, Near...

I LOVED In the Time of the Butterflies! I read it like 3 times, VERY amazing author and an even more captivating book! Have you guys seen the movie starring Salma Hayek? (not new) Have you guys read any other books by Julia Alvarez?  (Aug 24, 2009 | post #166)

Black women..pick up Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, by Steve Harvey. #1 New York Bestseller...you know how real Steve's comedy is and his radio talk show(s) past and previous, so don't have any doubt in your mind he comes even more REAL in his book. You'll probably want to finish it the day you get it! And men need to pick it up too, it's really not just for the ladies..it'll tell you a lot about yourself, coming from someone of your own gender!  (Aug 24, 2009 | post #113)

All i see in here is people playing the BLAME game, using cop-outs and making excuses, like black men are 100% at fault for the behavior of black women, and vice versa...i thought our parents taught us at a young age to be ACCOUNTABLE for our own actions and mistakes---learn your lesson and remember not to do what you did the next time around! People talking about their past relationships and how that person fucked up this or MADE them do that...you're a GROWN ass woman, and you're a GROWN ass man...you are responsible for your actions and how you let others influence you. You should be looking towards the future and not stuck in the past so don't be stuck looking in the rearview mirror when you should have your eyes on the road in front of you! Ciao.  (Aug 24, 2009 | post #112)

Hi Nupey! I've been VERY well! Thanks for asking. =) How about you? Como te sientes hoy? Still frequenting topix I see... i've just returned here tambien, and already I've gotten ignorant people humorously showing their premature sensitivity to anything I type. LOL! I've still got it! ;)  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #121)

The most humane, fair thing about me is I respect African Americans just as much as I respect Dominican-American s, just as much as I respect Mexican Americans, Just as much as I respect Chinese-Americans, and so on. You're placing ONE group of people up on a higher pedestal than another particular group of people. LOL! Someone African-American must've bagged your girl in the past! I now understand the animosity and resentment that you have towards a WHOLE race of people! It's clear as day now. Have fun! Disclaimer: Further response isn't necessary. Ciao!~ =)  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #118)

I stopped reading at "I truly don't mean to speak for harley." You're right, you shouldn't. Because you were never asked to do so. I'm sure harley has a mommy and daddy, and I'm highly doubting you're either of them. Topix.com has a few phony-Supermen, trying to save the day for people who can speak for themselves, and defend their OWN "OPINIONS "..which is exactly what they are, NOT facts. There's nothing more you need to address me on. You surely won't get a response. Where are you harley-girl? LOL!  (Mar 17, 2008 | post #107)

First of all, Johnny-boy. You're turning it into a big game of loops. All of a sudden I'M a hypocrite for pointing out a hypocrite, yet what have you said TO the original hypocrite for being so? NADA. Secondly, I'm DOMINICAN, but unlike the COLOR COMPLEX most of my people have with the fact that there ARE black-hispanics, and that a lot of US are BLACk-LATINOS...I have ALL the right in the world to care. About ANYONE'S plight. I've stuck up for Jews back during the WWII Genocide/ Holocaust. If i don't see the fairness or the equality in a persons' outlook on something, I will point it out without hesitation. NOTHING Morena typed, whether you saw it as ignorant or NOT, could match up to the ignorance of talking to her as if she's a child, the scum beneath that aviona's SHOE. "Your kind" ? GTFO. I BELIEVE you're Dominican..i've seen the racism firsthand from some of my own unconscious, uninformed, BLIND Dominican people. You can blame that on Trujillo, Balaguer, and the Spanish before them for instilling that racist mindset in our peoples' heads. You have black dominicans with african features, and kinky hair denying and dismissing anything that relates them to their roots, when we should be proud of ALL of them. INCLUDING the african slaves who were transported over to our island years ago. So i don't find it surprising that you say I shouldn't CARE about their plight..but I see us ALL as people, RACE, The one-drop rule, and this white-washed mentality was invented by the U.S. Government, and I'm not representing that. I feel for ALL the people, in ALL of their plights. My dad is a WHITE-Cuban & Panamanian man. :| I have WHITES in my family as well as TANS, BLACK, all throughout the color spectrum, and FORTUNATELY, our WHOLE family was raised not to JUDGE the character and value of a person, especially not by the COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. Most older generation Latinos are guilty of that, and the younger generation are VICTIMS of it. Being RAISED not to appreciate certain degrees of their roots just because it's been LOOKED DOWN UPON for years by ignorant, evil-rooted, ill-willed human beings. THE POINT IS...they both may have been talking rather irate and nasty to each other, but esa putita took it to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL of ignorance that wasn't necessary. Of course, you're quick to take up for her because your mentality is no different. ("Dominicans are way better than African Americans" was your statement. This conversation can end right now. No need to respond. You're racist, that's the only fact. Look it up in a dictionary, google it, whatever...You think you are BETTER than African Americans because you're DOMINICAN? BETTER= SUPERIOR. Ha! And this from a fellow dominican. Where's the irony in that? LOL! QUE LLENO DE MIERDA ESTAS ..TE LO JURO QUE LASTIMA.  (Mar 17, 2008 | post #105)

Thanks for your opinion and thoughts on that! Once again, I'll have more personal thoughts to share once I see it for myself! As for now, I'm not on any side of it, and really don't think i'll actually CHOOSE a side once I DO see it because of the valid point you made that we live in a free country and there are many different versions we'll have the chance to enjoy! I'm sure I'll enjoy them all! It's all about history, culture, and entertainment! Muchisimas gracias for your opinion on the matter! besitos y abrazotes muy fuerte! Ciao for now!  (Aug 24, 2007 | post #94)
