Latino activists plan rally

I've never smoked a cuban, so I'm just repeating what I heard (or alternately, blowing smoke from my behind), but I was told that the soil in cuba really makes them different. However, most of the tobacco plants grown in Central America do use Cuban seeds, and this is partly why they're considered "as good as". Cigars are a new hobby. Last time I was traveling in Mexico I smoked cigarettes that were from Cuba (comparable to French or Russian black tobacco), but I missed the opportunity to find a good cuban cigar. And yes, FREE CUBA!! I think we'll live to see it, after Fidel kicks the bucket. Little brother Raul is already introducing reforms. Maybe Raul will be the Cuban Deng Xiao Peng?  (Jul 17, 2008 | post #258)

What if we threw out all the illegal immigrants? - MSN Money

Thanks for the links. I read them and read the links in the first article as well. I want to make a criticism, but I don't want you take this personally. My criticism is this: You are overstating your case. As I said earlier, and as the links to the original source material reveal, there are no hard numbers that SS# theft for the purposes of finding work overlaps to a great extent with SS# theft for larcenous purposes. There is anecdotal evidence to be sure, but there is no indication that it is a widespread problem. On the other hand, there isn't evidence that it is NOT a problem, and there is anecdotal evidence that it is a problem. However, there is something like 700,000 cases of larcenous identity theft each year. The individual anecdotes are a drop in the bucket. Your assertion might or might not be eventually borne out. (You'll notice I'm being careful not to say that you're categorically wrong.) But in the meantime, unless there are hard numbers to back you up, you're exaggerating. Also, please note that I do consider anecdotal evidence to be a valid type for some arguments. If we assert that SS# theft is a problem, and that in some cases it crosses over to the far worse larcenous ID theft, then we have the evidence to support it. Saying that the larcenous type is widespread among illegal immigrants is at best premature and at worst completely wrong. I hope you can accept this criticism in the spirit it is offered. I make it because I want you to make better arguments. You're intelligent and capable of improving your arguments with a little more care in backing them up. Also, I've noticed that you are more persuasive when you are not letting the buttheads get you riled. =) Also, please don't think I'm being condescending. I've certainly overstated my case in arguments in the past, but I'm learning (I hope) not to do it as much. One last thing: It appears that the prosecutor *is* investigating each case of ID theft in the Swift Raid to find out who the victims are and how badly they were victimized. So that's good news. Prosecuting for fraudulent SS#s is a new development and long overdue. So take heart that some battles are being won.  (Jul 17, 2008 | post #737)

Are you sure it wasn't Santa, as you originally wrote, that gave away Alta California? Maybe he left it under the tree. =)  (Jul 17, 2008 | post #731)

Breath thru your nose, doc. Take deep breaths. Unclench! Seriously, life is too short to give yourself a heart attack over this stuff. If you weren't so over the top angry, you might actually find people agreeing with some of your points. Example: Corn Ethanol. Total boondoggle, taking money out of our pockets and transferring it directly to Archers-Daniels-Mi dland. Grade A pork in the form of Corn. Maybe we should call it Pork Ethanol. Now, if you're really a climate change denier, I can't agree with you on that. But what they hey? We agree on somethings and disagree on others. No biggie.  (Jul 17, 2008 | post #32)

I believe you. I don't think this is a widespread problem with illegal immigrants fraudulently using SS#s, but in any case where there is economic damage to the true SS# holder, of course the court should throw the book at them. In those cases without larcenous damage to the true SS# holder, I think 6 months in prison before deportation is fair. That's all I said before, but I hope I explained myself better this time. If you don't agree, that's fine. I won't think any less of you it.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #641)

Did he say Nxxxer or Nxxxah? Makes a difference. I'm kind of on the fence regarding the accuracy of the report. I know that FOX is often full of BS when it comes to political reporting. But this sounds exactly like something Jesse Jackson would do.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #60)

Man receives prison term in toddler's murder

This is the sort of thing that will get you 20 guys jumping off the top bunk onto your head while two other guys hold you down. You don't need to wish anything ill on this sick criminal. He's going to get worse than you can imagine.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #5)

Suspect dies in back of Long Beach Police cruiser

That's a distinction the cop haters seem incapable of making. The police aren't perfect. Some make mistakes and there is a very small minority of bad cops. However, the cops did absolutely nothing wrong here. This man's death is completely due to his own actions.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #103)

I don't quite get what you mean. Are you saying that an educated migrant is worse than an uneducated one?  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #620)

One more thing! Pardon my wordiness in the above posts. I can't help it if I love to hear myself type. Let me echo keith and ex-call girl. I appreciate your thoughtful comments, even though we don't agree on everything. You're quite intelligent, and that indeed earns my respect. Also, because we aren't name calling and such, it becomes clearer that our differences are not that far apart.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #71)
