Weird things going on at Dan's?

the back half of what I think is what's actually called Dan's Adult World was used this winter as a No Freeze shelter for the homeless. You would have seen a lot of people there from sunset until about 9 pm, waiting to get checked in  (May 16, 2009 | post #6)

East Hampton, CT

Does East Hampton need better response to problems with ...

Catching a dog wandering in a busy road, and rounding up horses that have strayed from their corral usually aren't the kinds of things that the average citizen is expected to do - nor is it something for a police officer who hasn't been trained to handle animals. However, that's just what has happened in East Hampton in recent months. And town resident Laurie Wasilewski wants to know why. She recalled a Sunday night when she and her husband spotted a dog - obviously lost - wandering in their yard on Hog Hill Road. "It was about 9 p.m. My husband called the police and he was told that no one was on duty," she said, referring to an Animal Control Officer. "We were told [by the dispatcher] that we had the choice of catching the dog and keeping him until the dog warden got the message in the morning," she said. "I don't think that's an appropriate thing to tell a taxpayer." Death At Hotel Hooker

The town listed under your name is Chaplin, not Willimantic so that's why I assumed you live in Chapline. That you live in Willimantic and still think the way you do is too bad. And the fact that you think I 'flipped out' or that I am 'mad' at you, tells me you don't know how to have a discussion in which someone disagrees with you. I explained why I don't agree with you. And I said I think it's sad that you are so hateful towards people. That's not flipping out. At this point, though, my wish for you is that sometime in the near future, you walk a mile or two in the shoes of the people you are calling trash- I think that's the only thing that will make an impression on you  (Dec 22, 2008 | post #8)

Death At Hotel Hooker

To the comment from the resident of Chaplin - your attitude is typical of people who know nothing about Willimantic. I moved here three years ago, after living in Mansfield for about 26 years. I used to be afraid of Willimantic, myself. I now love the place and the people who live here. Again, I point to everything good about this little city that I have learned since moving here. I live in what is considered one of the worst areas of Willimantic (off Milk Street) and I have learned that my neighbors - most of whom are Hispanic - get up and go to work everyday (as do I) and send their kids to school and - guess what? - they don't do drugs... I am guessing that the people you are referring to, that you see downtown, are homeless or poor. The fact that you'd make such a cruel comment about them is sad. Willimantic has the only homeless shelter/no freeze shelter and low-income housing in the northeast part of the state, so of course there will be more of these people here - versus a tiny town like Chaplin which, however, like everyplace else, has its share of drug users, troubled kids, alcoholics, mentally ill, unemployed and people indulging in illegal behavior behind closed doors - and I am willing to bet you know some of these people. Your high school, by the way, nearly lost its accreditation, and two other towns are trying to pull out of the regional school system, so Chaplin has its own troubles.  (Dec 18, 2008 | post #4)

Problems with voting at Buchanan Center-Mansfield Library

There were concerns expressed by poll workers that some Mansfield residents chose not to vote rather than wait for a parking spot at the Buchanan Center on Election Day. Did that happen to you? Would you like the polling place moved back to Southeast School?  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #1)
