Topix editors are "volunteers ", they are not given the ability to delete posts or entire threads. The only personal influences they have, besides posting to the forums like everyone else, are writing summaries to news stories (which roboblogger cannot do), or killing news stories for various reasons including redundancy or being off topic (which again roboblogger does not do). Topix gives everyone the right to complain about a particular post or thread, but it is only the "moderators " that are able to delete posts and entire threads; based on compliance with the Terms of Service :)  (Mar 2, 2013 | post #16)

This seems to be one of the drawbacks associated with Topix's robotic editor(roboblogger ). Unlike it's human editor counterpart, "roboblogger " apparently only scans news titles, without the ability to detect whether or not the news source actually matches the title. Their(Topix) loss.  (Feb 24, 2013 | post #3)

Officials say 2 dead, 4 sick from wild mushrooms

Another sad case due to the lack in the "quality control" of a comercially assisted living facility. The fact that this caregiver was introducing "wild" mushrooms into the facility's nutritional program, should have been a warning sign in that most mushrooms not store bought... are poisonous.  (Nov 11, 2012 | post #1)

Venus brightest in evening sky late April and early May

I apologize for the delay, have other things going on right nowBummerA low powered/wide viewing angle pair, say about (7x50mm) would work good. The pair I had were of high power (20x50mm). At this range it is best to use a tripod in order to keep the objects being viewed... "stable" . With the naked eye I could not see the Andromeda galaxy, with binoculars I could. With the naked eye I could only see about 5 stars in the Plaidese open cluster, with binoculars well over 10 stars. With the naked eye I saw only Jupiter, with binoculars it was Jupiter and about ten of its moons. The best for me was sharper details of the moon's mares and impact craters. Binoculars are excellant for the beginner who is interested in moving up to a telescope. Have you looked into building your own telescope, in order to cut down on the cost of buying one already assembled?  (Aug 21, 2012 | post #13)

Venus brightest in evening sky late April and early May

I owned a nice pair of binoculars, but I have not yet invested in a good scope. When I do, I will make sure that it is geared towards astro-photography :)  (Aug 15, 2012 | post #8)

Venus brightest in evening sky late April and early May

Yes, Venus is very bright in the early morning sky. Jupiter can easily be seen just above Venus this month. And slowly approaching the two is the crescent(third quarter) moon. This triple conjuction framing the moon with Venus and Jupiter, is enhanced by the surrounding of about half a dozen first magnitude stars... a beautiful sight indeed.  (Aug 10, 2012 | post #6)

Head's up! Andromeda is on a collision course with us

The news story is interesting and contains leads to more information. The redirections on the other hand... can be annoying.  (Jul 17, 2012 | post #3)

Venus brightest in evening sky late April and early May

The planets in our solar system look like stars, so it is difficult to differentiate between the two. The brightest, not biggest, star in our northern skies is apparently Sirius. It's one of the dog stars in Canis Major, which follows the constellation Orion the Hunter. I love viewing this during the winter months. http://astrobob.ar eavoices.com/2012/ 01/28/the-biggest- star-in-the-sky-an d-how-to-see-it/  (Jun 26, 2012 | post #3)

Atheism

Atheism: A very dangerous absurdity

Out of the many posts I made, only two of them may have suggested that I am religious: 1)I called Khatru "brother " which was of a biological nature and not a spiritual one. 2)I referred to our senses as being "God given" which is a commonly used phrase not meant to be taken "literallyApo logy accepted.. but I fail to see how equating at least two different meanings of the word "belief" ; can cause one to think that this is of a "theist" nature. I only meant that we have choices to believe in... that's all. But many here misconstued this as to meaning that Atheism is a choice, and to those of you who thought this I apologize.. for this in no way was my conveyance. Sincerely.  (Jun 12, 2012 | post #299)

Atheism: A very dangerous absurdity

I did, and I still chose since childhood... to not "pay attention" to whether or not God existedActually, there is no evidence of any kind that supports the existence of a god within "Our Universe"... I see nothing missing in that equation. In reiteration.. I see no reason to believe in God or gods as far as our Universe is concernedYou're "splitting hairs" here, the fact that you made a decision to try and fly by flapping your arms is something that, at first, you believed may work. To attempt this from the top of a roof or the top of a mountain, are just a couple of the choices available to you. Reality is nothing more than the way things are(law of physics). In no way is this influenced by our beliefs.  (Jun 10, 2012 | post #294)

Actually there are at least four different terms to the wording of "believe ". Ending your sentence with the word "doofus" proves that you are no different than those whom you claim as being guilty of hatred and name callingIf you would take the time to carefully read my posts, you would come to the conclusion that I "too" am an Atheist... you fool. Talk about being sad... shees! This type of behaviour is not necessary.  (Jun 10, 2012 | post #293)

My above posts prove that I believe in myself. But of course you would know that, had you not been focusing on filling your mind with crap.  (Jun 10, 2012 | post #292)
