Atheism

Heaven

True love is unconditional and does not require one to do anything special to receive it. If we are to be this (so called) God's children, then like any-other "responsible " parent(s) we are to be loved for where we came from regardless of what we do; since what we do is the result of "personal " (not by a book) up-bringing... get it?  (Oct 7, 2014 | post #44)

Atheism

Atheists forgetting the meaning of freedom

The irony of it all is that those who believe a god gave them their brain, allow religion to prevent them from utilizing the powers of the human mind to it's fullest "uninhibited " potential. That's unfortunate.  (Sep 25, 2014 | post #83)

Religion

Atheists forgetting the meaning of freedom

The fact that this God has not yet shown "in person" that he/she/it actually exists; means that the burden of proof falls on those who believe one(a God) really exists. The last word out of my Christian mother's mouth was... Momma! Faith is blind, it puts trust in something that does not live up to it's expectations. (Why else would you need faith.)  (Aug 25, 2014 | post #25)

Religion

Atheists forgetting the meaning of freedom

Actually; Atheism "is" the meaning of freedom: the freedom to choose ones own partner(male or female), the freedom to have or not have children, and (oh wow!.. just felt an eartquake!) anyway; the freedom to LIVE ONE'S LIFE AS THEY PLEASE, so long as it does not infringe upon anothers. Does religion allow this... NOWhy!.. I mean Hey!.. I don't want my tax dollars spent on providing anyone with "any" type of reading material (religious or not). If someone wants to read something in a hotel/motel, military/or not; let them bring their own... period!  (Aug 24, 2014 | post #12)

Topix editors are "volunteers ", they are not given the ability to delete posts or entire threads. The only personal influences they have, besides posting to the forums like everyone else, are writing summaries to news stories (which roboblogger cannot do), or killing news stories for various reasons including redundancy or being off topic (which again roboblogger does not do). Topix gives everyone the right to complain about a particular post or thread, but it is only the "moderators " that are able to delete posts and entire threads; based on compliance with the Terms of Service :)  (Mar 2, 2013 | post #16)

Astronomy

Nicolaus Copernicus

This seems to be one of the drawbacks associated with Topix's robotic editor(roboblogger ). Unlike it's human editor counterpart, "roboblogger " apparently only scans news titles, without the ability to detect whether or not the news source actually matches the title. Their(Topix) loss.  (Feb 24, 2013 | post #3)

Officials say 2 dead, 4 sick from wild mushrooms

Another sad case due to the lack in the "quality control" of a comercially assisted living facility. The fact that this caregiver was introducing "wild" mushrooms into the facility's nutritional program, should have been a warning sign in that most mushrooms not store bought... are poisonous.  (Nov 11, 2012 | post #1)

Venus brightest in evening sky late April and early May

I apologize for the delay, have other things going on right nowBummerA low powered/wide viewing angle pair, say about (7x50mm) would work good. The pair I had were of high power (20x50mm). At this range it is best to use a tripod in order to keep the objects being viewed... "stable" . With the naked eye I could not see the Andromeda galaxy, with binoculars I could. With the naked eye I could only see about 5 stars in the Plaidese open cluster, with binoculars well over 10 stars. With the naked eye I saw only Jupiter, with binoculars it was Jupiter and about ten of its moons. The best for me was sharper details of the moon's mares and impact craters. Binoculars are excellant for the beginner who is interested in moving up to a telescope. Have you looked into building your own telescope, in order to cut down on the cost of buying one already assembled?  (Aug 21, 2012 | post #13)

I owned a nice pair of binoculars, but I have not yet invested in a good scope. When I do, I will make sure that it is geared towards astro-photography :)  (Aug 15, 2012 | post #8)
