Double D

That is funny. I have always thought of that guy who owned Good Time Charlie's as the guy Wexley from Road House. Ya know, he owns a lot of the town, rich guy. Now the opening of the Double Deuce. "I used to Fu*$ guys like you in prison." Awesome Movie. We miss you Patrick Swayze,  (Friday Nov 13 | post #6)

town water

I think the cost would be similar if i no longer needed salt, softener, water delivery, replace pumps, and my dishwasher rack is falling apart. And it taste terrible. I even have a filter that runs thru the fridge, it still sucks. My opinion of course.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #6)

Can anyone tell me why we can't or don't have Chicago water? Is it a price thing or an I the only one who hates this water?  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #1)

Lockport High School Bomb Threat

I know this isn't Lockport, but when I went to their sight, I was shocked . They are animals on Topix. So, I'll talk to Manhattan. There was another bomb threat at Lockport High School today. Now, assuming this is a prank, like most are, these kids are shooting them selves in the foot. They may get out of taking a test that day,but longer term they are going to have a lot of bullshit taken away from them. Purses, backpacks, water bottles, these thing will be gone. Isn't this how they ended their last school year? The schools are to soft on kids as is. Not to play the old man card but, we weren't allowed drinks and backpacks "back in my day" and I'm not even 40 yet. I have seen so much shit that kids get away with because the deans don't back the teachers or the parents come in and actually believe their kids can do nothing wrong. If my teacher said I cheated, and I told my mom that I didn't, guess who she would believe? Not me. Cell phones are illegal in most schools, as they should be. Who the hell are you calling at third period? Don't buy your kid a new cell phone if they got theirs confiscated. Punish him more for breaking the rule, and for the cost of a new cell phone. It seems to me that kids these days have no idea what consequences are. Would you try to get your kid out of detention if he was late for class? He was late, he knows what happens when he is late. There isn't a lot of gray area here. Bell rings, you aren't here = late. Case closed. I'm so tired of seeing parents treat teachers like a babysitter and then when trouble arises, doubt the teacher. How about your kid who has been in trouble since 7th grade, you think he might be lying? When my wife tells me these stories when she gets home, I just can't picture a parent who takes a teenagers word over the teachers. I know, some times there is a wacko teacher out there, but mostly c'mon. I know what kids are like, I was one not too long ago. As if the teacher wants to stick around longer to deal with some pain in the ass kid and their parents. They just want to get home. I hope they catch this kid with the bomb threat, and punish the shit out of him. If he isn't caught, then the whole school will suffer. As it should, these are called consequences. Sorry to rant, but this just pisses me off.  (Monday Nov 9 | post #1)

New Park Board

I didn't go to that fest because of the price. What was it, like $10 buck for everybody older that 2?? Screw that, I'm a family of 5, then all food and fun. It adds up. A lot of fest's are free to get in.  (Wednesday Nov 4 | post #4)

Whats going on at Charlies ?

No strip clubs. Relax. If you want to bring in something else, go right a head. But a nice sports bar isn't going to kill anyone. I go to bars to watch a game or play pool. I don't drink, but I enjoy getting out of the house without he kids sometimes. But I don't really want to hang out at the other bars in town. Plus, in this economy, I welcome the possibility of some jobs in the area, and I would not be saying that to a strip club. But a nice, clean, affordable, place to watch a game or play some pool. Perfect. But again, it's not going to be a strip club. I'd rather another bar than another vision center.  (Monday Nov 2 | post #51)

Whats going on at Charlies ?

I swung by the place this weekend. Looks like it will be a sports bar with a small menu, a couple of pool tables and a stage in the back. As far as the otb, no time soon. It looks like it is what we need and want, A nice and affordable place for a beer and a game. Will there be adequate parking? I hope they have spots in the back.  (Sunday Nov 1 | post #48)

Topix, we are neighbors

Why is it that on this site, there can be a perfectly normal conversation, even a debate, and some feel the need to either, slander their neighbor, lie about topics, and get down right mean? It would seem that people are coming here to ask questions or inquire about Manhattan. Opinions should be welcome and respected. Rule #1. I think some dude named Jesus said it best, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. these people are your neighbors. Now I"ll bet I have crossed this line once or twice myself. But at least I am trying to conduct myself as neighborly as possible. That being said, I will react if attacked. Honestly, we should act as if we are talking to each other at a table face to face. The anonymous factor causes people to act like asses. When your only defense is spelling and grammar, just sit this one out. I think you are missing the point. Am I the only one who feels this way? I hope not.  (Oct 28, 2009 | post #1)
