Health Care - Independence, IA

So long as the Big Insurance Companies have ANYTHING to do with our HEALTH CARE, costs will rise and care will fall. Insurance has NOTHING to do with our health care. DUH.  (Dec 21, 2009 | post #5)

Expert: Mom on trial for murder tried suicide three times

Yes, I will comment. I am a senior who has given my entire life to mental health; dx and rx. There once was a state hospitla in Independence which should have saturated the area and its resources with vital info on detecting symptoms and acting early. We just had a boy not far from your area kill his high school coach. He, like this lady, had symptoms sticking out all over the place and in many ways. Yet, we the sheep do nothing. The friends, neighbors, observers of these symptoms unbelievably don't know what to do. They just observe and gossip. Whenever you see or hear of symptoms like these two situation, for God's sake ACT. Take time out of busy money making and go find their family doctor, a clinic, go see the County Attorney, go until you find someone who will intervene ---- For God's Sake if no other.  (Nov 8, 2009 | post #1)

Merits of large-scale hog operations hotly debated

For some reason I couldn't get in to comment on the Mental Health Institute's closure. So, will make a comment here until I figure out why. Close the faciltiy so there will be more money for the State---University of Iowa football staff. Head coach is wanting a bonus for getting into a bowl game. Come on, lets help these people. Iowa must keep on cutting salaries and laying off State employees, especially those in the helping professions, law enforcement etc. FOOTBALL AND SPORTS: YES HELPING PEOPLE: NO!  (Oct 23, 2009 | post #2)

Merits of large-scale hog operations hotly debated

If this is about Hog Factories, say so. They are unhumane, and the most likely thing to get everyone to quit eating pork. As a former farmer, I see much of what goes on in these factories as simple animal abuse. This is not the Iowa I once knew. This hog factory practice stinks, and makes Iowa stink worse.  (Oct 23, 2009 | post #1)

Vatican says pope plans to visit earthquake zone after Ea...

It will take something equivalent to an earthquake to get Rome to change some of their antiquated rulings. Heil Hitler Holy Father.  (Apr 13, 2009 | post #4)

Vatican says pope plans to visit earthquake zone after Ea...

As a Catholic, I have to think how worthless are these PR and political "visits to the sites" after catastrophes, ala Bush in NYC. The Pope should be thinking of how to right the pain of all those harmed by his pedaphile priests. What is being done to ferret out the rest? The Pope owes the people of the US, if not the world, funding for a great center to study the cause(s) of pedaphilia, and find treatments possible. The Pope and his supposedly celibate priests need to get real about allowing the use of condoms, and birth controls; The Pope needs to end celibacy for priests, and make it, as least, an option. The priesthood is attracting all kinds of men with emotional problems. Much better screening is required. And, finally, the Pope needs to be thinking of all the thousands of gays and lesbians who have been so deeply hurt by Vatican injunctions made by old celibate (and often sexually confused) men. The Pope needs to understand that an organization does not need to let go of things because they are old, but DOES NOT NEED TO HOLD ONTO THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE OLD.  (Apr 13, 2009 | post #3)

Issue isn't woman's arrest; it's that she stole a book

Well, yes, after thinking it over. She needs to serve jail time, up to about ten years. Afterward, she needs to be on parole for at least three years. At times, she needs to be placed in a stockadge in the public square where people can look, spit and yell at her. With so many things of import today, the recession and all, this woman is taking valuable time away from the newspapers, police and all of us. Oh yes, the gays and Obama cause this kind of disrespect for the law too.  (Apr 7, 2009 | post #1)

Woman in book theft case to meet author

Can we all work together and just try to get over the overdue book story. Geeeeeeez. That is a great picture I saw on here of the Wap River falls and the old brick building. Can anyone say how old that building is, and would be a location where the kids at circa 1900 swam in Independence? Or was it down the river a ways? Please post on my question. Thanks.  (Mar 1, 2009 | post #1)

Woman pleads not guilty for stealing book

This highlights what kind of a mean and officious society we have become. An attorney having to be used for a $13.95 book! The attorneys love this kind of a world; he can charge $50-$100. for his part. The library is the villian here and the head of the library needs to be looked at. This should have been handled at that level, with the librarian calling, or going to the home, if needed to collect the book or the value of it. Then, the library surely has an attorny or one they use who could have made a phone call, and/opr a letter and that should have resolved it. The attorney could have said, "Look, you return the book and pay $c. 13. bucks, or you will have pay an attorney c. $100. If that didn't work, how about just banning the person from checking out books in the future and go on with this crazy thing called living The hippies had it right, but we lost it.  (Feb 16, 2009 | post #1)

Cheney says Russian action 'must not go unanswered'

All I blame the US and Republicans for is the thousands killed and maimed in the phony Bush/Cheney war, still supported by people like you. And for lying. And for New Orleans, and for being in Afghan and sticking their nose into Georgia (not USA) for more oil/money, for Halliburton, for sending troops without equipment, for torture and hiding it, for eavesdropping on us, for turning almost every civilized country against us, and for a smell in the air in this once great country much greater than a fart, but a smell undescribable, from thousandS like MICHEAL OF GEORGIA, USA.  (Aug 12, 2008 | post #143)

Cheney says Russian action 'must not go unanswered'

Hey, your arrogance becomes you. But, from Georgia, who is surprised. What have you ever won at? I hate to suggest what it would be in that countryside.  (Aug 12, 2008 | post #142)

Cheney says Russian action 'must not go unanswered'

Don't forget, there is more than enough evidence to impeach snarling Cheney, Bush, Rove and Co. Hope we don't let them get away like we did Kissinger, Nixon, McNamara and Johnson.  (Aug 12, 2008 | post #141)

Cheney says Russian action 'must not go unanswered'

You total idiot. Nobody is pointing fingers more than you are doing in your party slanted rant. Anyone who is for a given party at this juncture in the world is totally ignorant and unable to control the most elementary prejudices they got from their parents. When your post is read, which is a waste of time, it shows clearly that the American people get exactly what they deserve: read Bush, snarling Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove etc. Its people like you that do this damage to our country. Idiot.  (Aug 12, 2008 | post #139)

Cheney says Russian action 'must not go unanswered'

What the ell does the US, read Cheney/Bush have sticking their nose into the Russia/Georgia affair. Thats a rhetorical question. Cheney, isn't he one of the murderers row that sent our boys and girls to Iraq and Afghan to be killed. Only about 4000 you say? What if your son/daughter was one of them. But, one of the things Cheney/Bush hide is that an amazing 30,000 of our people will be trying to walk around with half a face, one or several limbs missing, with PTSS. And all the time, the snarling Cheney and his boy President are hiding why they have maimed so many people, ie, read: oil and money. Of course, rarely do they ever mention the thousands of Iraqi and Afghan people, men, women and children who have been killed and maimed. Russia doesn't have a right to protect their interests, but we can invade foreign countries? Geez, everyone has gone nuts. That thinking is not patriotic; its ignorant.  (Aug 12, 2008 | post #138)
