Can bike patrol bring harmony to Marin's trails?
"Gee! You're smart... Wish you'd been with me at China Camp, watching a women in a wheelchair being pushed by another woman, meeting a horse on a narrow trail, the horse unable to backup or turnaround, the woman in the wheelchair also not able to turn around. You're so smart... " Smart enough to agree with this, "With respect to user safety, it is important to note that not all trails that may be designated for multiple or specific uses are necessarily suitable or safe for all members of any particular user group. Each user group may include members who may or may not have the skills, experience or desire to safely negotiate a particular section of a trail that may be designated for such use." Can bike patrol bring harmony to Marin's trails?
"horses damage the trails, eat the plants and leave waste material on the trails. they make it impossible for people in wheelchairs to use the trails." Tell this to the wheelchair bound guy that climbed Mt Kilimanjaro! More difficult, sure, but not impossible! Any trail user, regardless of mode, that travels more than a few miles past the trailhead, expects difficulties. It is part of the challenge and reward. (Tuesday Dec 22 | post #142)

Can bike patrol bring harmony to Marin's trails?
"Horses were here way LONG before mountain bikes." Translation; Mountain Biking must be excluded from all trails "Historically " used by equestrians. Problem with this argument is that history if full of examples of abuses that have been changed over time, just because something has been done for a long time does not mean it has to continue. My opinion, banning bicycles from backcountry type trails is a small glitch that time will correct. Equestrians are rightfully concerned about increased use of trails will bring about more complaints regarding equestrian use, however, working with us will be more productive than trying to exclude us. Letter: Pot shouldn't be legalized
With the economy the way it is can we be serious about legalizing cannabis and the ramifications? Commercial production and taxing has to be weighed against the current system of black market profits and legal system profits. My opinion, if the average Joe/Jane gave a thought to why pot is illegal and the profits of prohibition of a product somewhere in between cigarettes and alcohol, they would vote to return the money to better uses than running prisons, supporting District Attorneys, and drug runners. Meetings need common courtesy to allow EVERYBODY freedom of speech. If one or more people try to disrupt the meeting while an opinion they do not agree with is being presented, then that disrupting person is impinging on the speakers freedom more that exercising their own. Sadly, there are those who attempt to deny others freedom in the name of their own. Do we proceed with the peoples business, or allow the meeting to degenerate into a shouting match? Letter: Favre an outstanding role model
Fran Tarkington was better, just my personal opinion, Joe Montana also. Brett Favre is an outstanding QB, who is reaching the end of the line. I think all QB should have to end their careers by playing at least one year as backup for the same team. Old Joe should not have gone to Kansas City. No shame in playing the supporting role. Cyclists stay up all night in Oroville to open eyes about sport
Great writing, thank you Evan. That is exactly what I wish I could have said. LOBO wishes to thank all who supported us, our volunteers, and the riders. Topping the list of support is Ed Hamilton from Sports LTD. Or was it John Alden from North Rim Adventure Sports? Tough call! They both dug deep. The teams from North Rim who raced the event kicked **** ! We are still using the printer paper and card stock this year that was donated last year by Staples in Oroville Our course marking was made much easier with the fence stakes supplied by Oroville’s Tractor Supply. Greenline Cycles kicked in generously, as did The Bicycle Wheel, Pullins Cyclery, and CycleSport. Cal-Fire, we simply cannot thank you enough. Mike Hurst and Hurst Electric, above and beyond! Sierra Nevada Brewery. Raw Revolution Energy Products. Active.com/Cliff Bars. Schwalbe. NiteRider. Defeet. Camelbak. Paul Component Engineering. Butte Co Publics Works. ChicoBag, helping to keep our world green. 162 Coffee, outstanding support and espresso! I missed contacting several of last years supporters but hope to get back to you in the future. Roberts’s Drug, Jackson’s Glass, Crystal Pharmacy, Ken’s Paint, Wal-Mart, Creative Imaging Center. THANK YOU, Lake Oroville Bicyclists Organization (Nov 16, 2009 | post #1)

Come on, really? The story in question was an "Oroville's Own" human interest piece! A different thing completely from the old biased reporting that took place when covering the "ORAC" stories. (Nov 16, 2009 | post #15)
Editorial: New trail rules should be guided by public safety
This approach should be taken at any meeting where the nuts cry about safety. Once the land managers give serious thought to real safety, and equestrians are looking at being banned from singletrack, then we will have a level playing field to talk about access. There are lots of equestrians who accept responsibility for their own safety and those exposed to their animals. If their access is threatened they will denounce the nuts who cry for the agencies to protect them. (Nov 12, 2009 | post #134)
Editorial: New trail rules should be guided by public safety
Equestrian, Riding a horse is dangerous,PERIOD. People get hurt or killed on horses without any other cause other than "the horse bolted". Christopher Reeves! Trails can be altered to slow down cyclist at hazardous areas, so they have to slow down, jerk-off cyclist or not. The jerk-offs, cyclist and equestrians, will always be there regardless of rules. Editorial: New trail rules should be guided by public safety
Safety? If public trails are to be made safe then horse use needs to be re-evaluated. All the arguments are correct, horses are prey animals whose natural actions put themselves and humans at risk of injury or death. Why then do we continue to allow them access to narrow trails? History? Times change and the time has come to re-think horse access. Why should any person be able to jump on any horse and expect the public to "protect " them by excluding all other forms of recreation (except of course hiking) around them? Being out on a trail is risky and that risk must be accepted by the trail user. Equestrians must be held responsible for their own safety, not by banning other uses, but by training themselves and their horses BEFOR going out in public. Equestrians, join with multiuse groups now to protect your privilege to ride. Keep claiming you have a right to exclusive use of public resources and you may find yourselves turning into hikers in the not so far off future. I personally want horses to be allowed on all backcountry type trails they currently enjoy. I do not seek banning horses from trails. However, if the issue is “SAFETY” then let’s be honest and go from there. Lyle Wright (Nov 11, 2009 | post #50)

Various jobs come with various perks, no shame in using them. Wish the girl all the best, come back healthy. I am seeking to get an event written up in the Register, just like the Equestrian LOVERide story. Only my event is for bicycles, and as far as I know, no reporter or columnist for the Mercury rides bicycles. So the story may or may not run. As always, who you know can be better than what you know. That's life! (Nov 11, 2009 | post #12)
