Cemetery Act of Arkansas

Arkansas Act 753 of 1991 prohibits the desecration of human burial on public or private lands, it is unlawful to excavate, disturb, remove, or destroy human skeletal burial remains or burial furniture including burial markers, items of personal adornment, casket and casket hardware, stone and bone tools, pottery vesels or other similar objects placed in apparent intentional association with the burial. This applies to both historic and prehistoric graves/burials. Violators are subject to arrest. Conviction can carry criminal penalties of up to six (6) years in prison and/or a maximum of $10,000. Help us protect the cultural heritage of Arkansas. Helen Thweatt Obituary

Helen Howton Thweatt Abilene Helen Howton Thweatt, 97, formerly of Luxora, Arkansas, died on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at a local nursing facility in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church in Luxora, Arkansas on Sunday, Huly 26 at 2:00 PM followed by the funeral at 3:00 PM. Officiating will be the Pastor, Rev. Jackie Wood. Burial will be at Violet Cemetery in Osceola, Arkansas. Helen was born in Osceola, Arkansas on July 26, 1911 to Dr. Oleander and Edith Howton. She graduated from Luxora High School, William Woods College, and NorthWestern University, followed by a short career as an English teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Luxora since 1925 and a Sunday School teacher there for nearly eighty years. She was a charter member of the Luxora Book Club, the Mississippi County Historical and Genealogical Society, and the Progressive Club. Helen is survived by her son, William and wife, Wanda Thweatt of Abilene, Texas and daughter, Sandra and husbad Dr. jim Huston of Midland, Texas, daughter in law, Mary Elizabeth Thweatt of Clarksville, Tennessee, eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildre n, and six great-great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, William Edward Howton, her husband, john Henry Thweatt, a son, John Howton Thweatt, and a great-grandson, Bennet William Howton. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Luxora, Arkansas 72358, The American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, or a charity of your choice.  (Jul 27, 2009 | post #1)
